Update: Dad adjusted the timing slightly and it is running perfect and no more check engine lights. Been driving it for the past few days with no issues. Thank you all for the help and diagnosis. You all are the best!

I just replace my OPDA on my TJ as well. You are suppose to do a Cam/Crank Relearn after replacing it. Is your OBDII reader bi-directional. If so see if it has the cam/crank relearn and run it. It will program the computer. Your error message had the word 'correlation' in it which is just a relearn procedure. Your dad adjusting the timing helped but could have been negated by running the relearn. :)

That raptor coating was really an easy fix. Big transformation with a minimal cost. There was a good amount of labor to take off all the parts but it is definitely something a novice should be able to try. great job.

With the code it also could be a possibility that your timing is off, maybe the chain is worn and has slack and caused the cam and crank to come out of alignment
@averyreed1220
@averyreed1220 Год назад
I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think that motor has an actual timing chain. I think they have a physical gear mesh and lifter operated valves. I watched a disassembly of a 4.0 and that’s how I remember it coming apart. I think the 2.5L motors are the same as well, I drive one. Correct me if I’m wrong tho

No chain it's gear driven. The reason they are considered "bulletproof" everything else is no stronger than any other straight 6

Put 3-5 twists in the fabric door catches, so that the doors are limited in how far they can swing open. If your parents don’t want to run any larger tire than that, you might consider going back to stock height springs and stock control arms for a better ride.

You should go back under the carpet and cut a few holes in the sound dampener around where the drain plugs are in case it ever rains on you or gets water in the jeep so it doesn’t just sit in a puddle under the carpet.

I put a Bed Rug kit and Best top on my 94 YJ and love it. I retired from working at a CJDR dealership from the parts and service department. I can tell you that getting parts for a 4.0 in new old stock (NOS)is about like finder hens teeth. My 94 has a 2.5 4cylinder in it and parts for those are about the same. I agree with a previous comment that it could be the timing chain and gear set on that many miles is a most likely culprit for the crank and cam getting out of sync with each other in the higher rpm. Good luck with your project for your parents and really appreciate and enjoy your channel.

Glad you and your father stuck with it and have it fixed correctly! I don't know how much you have invested in parts and labor but that Jeep could easily fetch over 10k now--but somehow I don't think your parents will ever sell it. Great video, Alex--I wish I had your superpower to snap my fingers and make everything as good as new or better!😉

Great job!!!! I'd love for you to report on how the sound deadening worked. I pulled my carpet out and raptor lined my floor. It gets really hot on long road trips bc of the transmission tunnel, like cooks your feet hot. Good job on cutting the sound deadening around your drain plugs. You did the doors so well. I prepped well and did a spray finish. It lasted a long time but eventually failed bc I didn't clear it.

Cam crank correlation codes can be tricky friend. A Picoscope could give you a wave form of data from the sensors to compare with known good sensors/motor. You could have a sensor issue, wiring, or timing off, or shaft of cam has shifted on pulley. Either way killer transformation.

If you ever run into a no crank, no start condition here is one thing to check. The actual ignition switch is on the left side of the column and the key is on the right. There is a long cylindrical rod that looks quite a lot like a small tuning fork that connects the end of the tumbler for the key cylinder to the ignition switch. Those "forks" have a habit of breaking. Just keep it in the back of your head because it can make you pull you hair out trying to figure out why when you turn the key you can get the ignition switch to move to accessory but it won't start. (The start position is spring loaded to return the switch to the run position so with a broken fork you have enough grip to get it to accessory but not enough to over come that return spring.)

A hardtop would really help make the Jeep quiet. I know it somewhat defeats the purpose of having a Jeep, but it would be a nice option during the cooler/colder months. I do remember that you are in FL I was just thinking for those few months when the top might be useful or if your parents decide they just want a quiet Jeep.

Replace them with LED units (and a new third LED light mounted above the spare tire. 😀
