Thank you! It took me 6 full days. If the hubs wouldn’t have helped, it would’ve taken 8 days. He started two days before me.

Oh wow! You’re a hero! My husband and I promised each other that this would be the last dining set we would ever do. Not only is it time consuming, but it’s hard on the body and we’re not getting any younger. 😊

Hahaha yes, but you know, we agreed he would help with the sanding of the chairs before we started the project. I figured I’ve done enough furniture projects for the rest of the house all on my own. 😁😁

I’m only 1/4 of the way in. But I recently took notice of the fact that you also have an orbital Surfprep and I’m just curious why you felt the need to purchase this one also…does the orbital perform better on certain pieces?

Hi, the orbital sander was gifted to me, and since I had both I decided to compared them. The small one is much cheaper and although is not as fast as the surf prep, if you have a small project, it will get the job done.

Well thank you for the first part of the comment, as for the second part, I’m willing to paint to make furniture attractive, or cover damage and save it from going to the landfills. Many people believe that most old furniture is made with solid wood, but that’s not the reality.

This came out great! What a labor of love. How did you know that using those two stains together would create the tone you were looking for? Your table and chairs have planted a seed in my mind about possibly doing the same thing with our table. Thank you for the inspiration.

Thank you!! You know, I’ve always liked mixing stain colors over the years. So I just knew, that with the redness in this wood, applying the Early American stain alone, might darken the wood too much. I prefer to play it safe and go a little darker at the time, it’s easier to make something darker thank the other way around. And I wish you the best with your project!

How long does it take for the smell to go away after you apply the oil-based products?

If you can do it outside, I would. The only reason we moved inside, was because of the hot weather. But, if you do it indoors and you keep the windows open and the area well ventilated, the smell is not bad at all. But, I would say, after a week the smell wasn’t noticeable.

I'm not usually a fan of white stain but this looks fantastic!!! So much work and you (and your husband) didn't cut corners. I know you all are proud. Great job!

I definitely love the results when the white stain is layered with Early American. And I understand that the white stain by itself is not for everyone. I’m glad the hard work shows, because it was not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. Tackling the project together, definitely helps, we encourage each other. Thank you!

Hahahaha chairs are one of those pieces that aren’t pretty, just functional, so not very exciting to work on, but all together the made up set is fabulous. And yes, he might of mentioned giving our children away, but I convinced him otherwise. 😄

Thank you so much! I was a little freaked out after the first coat of stain and seeing how red the wood was turning, but glad I just kept layering that stain until it was perfect for us. Glad you liked it! 😊
