Yeah the original wheels are so much nicer - they’re the proper original ones for it. The ones you have put on are off a Sport and that’s just a bit naff. I’d remove the mudflaps off the front too - would really improve it.

If you want to keep it somewhat long term ish, pull the sill trims, rear arch liners and treat any rust any spray a rust killing and wax treatment. That will help the notorious L322 wheel arch rust problem. Then from the inside , remove the side panels and get to the rear quarter panels. The rust you always see there is rusting from the inside out. By the time you get a rust bubble showing on the outside, it's too late.

Agree with you, the original wheels look better 👍 great effort on the changes though keep it up. I prefer the look without mudflaps, mine didn't come with them. I changed all my wheels nuts too, but kept locking nut however they need painting as out of place compared to others. Have fun!

It looks odd having the mud flaps in the front and not the rear. If you're going to remove the rear, why not remove all four unless you're thinking of replacing the rear later on. Congratulations on your hard work.
@itsjoel

Thanks Nathan, the reason I've left the front ones on for now is because removing and replacing them will be part of doing the side step install, however not sure if I will do that or not yet.

We want more of the black cat! For stuck nuts imperial sockets can help, often part way between two metric sizes.
@johngriffin641
@johngriffin641 2 года назад
23mm socket usually works with the ‘swollen nuts’ issue on these. An impact wrench is a good investment if you are doing a lot of wheel swapping so not all wasted money. I’d recommend using a torque wrench to set the correct 140nm final torque and don’t just crank them up with a breaker or you can stretch the threads. Good luck with the project and keep an eye on the EGR valve as.
@itsjoel
@itsjoel 2 года назад
Thanks John, 23mm was too big, ended up buying a 22.5mm which actually fit, but that was after I'd managed to get them off with the method you saw in the video. Having the EGR deleted in a few weeks!

Tip, for cleaning wheels, place a large micro fibre towel over the top of a bucket, and put the wheels on top of the bucket. Saves you marking the face and having to bend down to clean. I picked up a wheel cleaner station the other month and it's a God send

I had a similar experience removing a stuck NOx sensor in my camper's exhaust. Not only did I spend a small fortune on spanners to remove it, but a second small fortune in various tools to recut the buggered thread after finally removing it. Very satisfying when you get it all done though.

The sidelight bulbs you fitted are LED's not Zennon. And before hammering on the 22mm socket onto the WHEEL NUT (not Lug nut, you ain't a yank!) you should have tried a 23mm as some of those nuts have rusted under the stainless steel and caused them to swell up, and a 23 mm fits ok. You could have saved yourself a fortune lol yes probably the one you totally buggered would have needed heating up, but the rest would have come undone ok. Here's a little tip for you all. If something is really stuck and won't undo, try with the breaker bar to TIGHTEN IT FIRST. this little trick has got me out of trouble hundreds of times from small things to Land Rovers and bigger!

You may have spent over £300 on changing the wheels but you also have all those tools for future use so the money isn’t wasted and you know the wheels come off better knowing you had an issue on the drive rather than on the side of the M25. I also prefer the old style wheels. But as you say it is nice to see the “cleaness” of the new wheels. I like the look with no mudflaps but would suggest the fronts come off too. You will probably be able to use a hacksaw to get that bolt off that has expanded on the other side of the arch. The side steps would hopefully be a easy swap from one car to the other and the xenon’s look great and if like you say it’s easy why not change the others to xenon’s. Also I don’t know if it would be cheaper or not but if it is and they fit you could look at swapping the Pirelli’s onto the original rims
