I’ve been to a large pigeon loft whose owner raised two kittens with the pigeons. They grew into two huge toms that loved the pigeons. I’d bet these kittens will do the same being raised with the chickens.
What do your neighbors think of the animals? We're not allowed to have animals in town. Chickens are allowed, but only 2 hens and no roosters. Even cats and dogs are limited. Im surprised to see others with such vast animals in the 'burbs.
Im glad yoy mentioned meat chickens. We plan to buy a home in a few years when my husband seperates from the military and I am happy to hear that you support local farmers. I want a small homestead and havent been on and off about raising my meat.
in a dry, hot and sunny climate, you can also grow all kinds of beans and peas (especially chickpeas), asparagus, shallot, Jerusalem artichoke, satureja, thyme, malva sylvestris, lavender, blackberries, cistus, blackthorn, loquat, chesnut tree, bitter orange, Anacyclus pyrethrum... also cornflower, Eschscholzia, goat rue herb, jasmine, etc.
Avocado are not self-pollinating. Unless one of your neighbors, with their manicured lawns and concrete ponds has one, you will need to get another for fruit. I watch the UP Train run along your back wall and wonder how many of those locomotives and rail cars have run past my place here in Central California.
Wonderful to see you have grown an amazing urban homestead. Just shows that you don’t need many acres to grow and raise food. I believe after watching your channel for years, you may be the most organized, best managed and project focused family making videos. I love organization too. ❤️🌱
Amazing place. You have a huge backyard and lots of fruit trees and a nice vegetable garden. Its enjoyable to have plants to take care . I really enjoyed watching you and your big backyard with plants and animal.
Wow! You have given me inspiration to have my own farm in my future! Your channel is the best. I always hated farms but when I found this channel I was changed into a different person. I love you guys!!!! ❤
I grew up on a farm in VA and miss it so much. It was just a hobby/retirement farm for my granddaddy and grandma but there were 90 acres to roam and play and whatever. We lived there right across the driveway from them. The best childhood ever. That's why I want to make a mini farm on our property. But at my age and with COPD I think it would be a little much for me. I guess I need to just live with the memories. They aren't as much work😅
I have a smaller lot but have a garden with a few things and just got 2 goats, going to turn the female to a milking goat. You are legit my role model.
As you may probably know your channel is and has always been my favorite RU-vid channel of all. It's through your channel that I found most all of the other homesteading ones that I watch. I absolutely loved today's vlog!!!!! Even tho I may have already knew most of it, there was so much more new insights into things your family does that I found very interesting and just wanted you to know again how much I love your channel!!!💖
So I found you guys about a week ago from watching another homesteading channel I watch, and I liked what I saw. So, I have binge watched you all week. I watched the last 80 videos you all made. In order. YES. I went back 80 videos and started watching in order from there. 80!!! LOL I love the family, the animals, the recipes, and I fell in love with you all. Animals included! I have subscribed, of course, and look forward to more updates. In the meantime, I will go way back and catch up some more. Love from this Canadian guy living in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta!
The pond is something I would NEVER do because water freaks me out if it isn’t a clear AF swimming pool but yours is EPIC. I would love to have land like that one day
What a great video. Thank you for your tour. I love all you do and all the work you put into your homestead. That view of the kittens w the chick is priceless. Best of luck to you all.
Y’all are my main channel I watch on RU-vid. I love how interesting every new video is! I cant wait to see what the future holds for this channel!!! ❤️ 💫
My no.1 youtube channel! As a homesteader wannabe, I love the inspiration of your channel, urban farm and family. One day we're going to have a small urban farm like this. Thank you keep inspiring us. Love from the Philippines and UAE Dubai!
I think it wonderful your city allows you to have farm animals on your property. My small city won't allow you to keep any farm animal. I'd love to get one of those pigs. They are so cute! Hugs from Pa. 💕🐶💕🐈💕🐖💕🐐💕🐔💕
Hi you guys are amazing and literally you guys deserve a medal for all the trials you've been through seriously good job with the kittens, the baby goats births, the farming (like WOW) and everything. 🤟💕😁
Thanks for your tour! All the animals are amazing and full of personality. Not sure where i am in your story. Your family is so loving & hard-working. You have a fresh. natural beauty that is amazing. I live in sub-tropical Florida; have a prickly cactus & a 3yr old avocado tree i grew from the seed. Awwww. The kitties & chick😻🎈
You should consider a bright paint job on the tree house, might save the little ones a splinter or 5 😘 I was a tomboy and lived in tree houses! I love the redo on the milking station ! Still never heard back about if you ever do meet and greets with your farm friends and family? I visit Arizona a few times a year and dream of meeting Willow 🥰❤️💕
Ever neat! Me and my husband talk about having a hobby farm. We are trying to sell and move to a country lot. I have a pet dog willow and had a dog named penny 😊
I thought the pigs were pets! They do such a good job for you and Kevin loves them. The kitties with that chick is precious. It will be interesting to see if their friendship continues
Danelle, you, your family, and your farm are an inspiration to me every day! Watching your vlog has helped me through some tough times, and given me the determination to try to lead a life like yours. Bless you and thank you for what you've done and continue to do!
You have a beautiful farm. I vote for extending your garden instead of raising rabbits. I think the heat will be hard on them. Also...those pigs are so cute. I am sad that you don't them. :( They seem very sweet. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. Love from Texas
Thank you for the tour, I've come over from Lumnah Acres, when they got Hope. I'm raised on a farm and I love animals. I'm Danish. I've worked on farms in Denmark and in Iceland. I'm now close to retirement from the Royal Danish Air Force. I love the way you do your farming and live your city farm life. Your a great inspiration to many homesteaders. God bless. Greetings from your Danish viewer and follower. 🇩🇰😎😍
Brilliant! Love an orchard. I dream of an apple orchard surrounded by a border of budlea, lavender and other cut flowers. We also have loads of natural pool pins on my garden boards for Pinterest. We may be in different parts of the world in different situations yet we still have loads in common. Love how that works. That chick and kittens truly has the aaaw! factor
I lived in 29 Palms Calif for 15 years. I used kids hard plastic pools to garden as I was in military base housing. I did Not put drain holes in the bottom. Watering enough not to leave standing water in the bottom and mulched the top to hold the moisture. It did real well. The squash loved it!
I love this! I’m your neighbor in New Mexico and so I’m also in the desert, and I have half an acre right in Albuquerque so am doing a similar suburban farm. I have pigs and chickens and peacocks and rabbits and a garden. I dream of having more land in the country some day but for now it’s awesome to have a mini farm in town. I love seeing others doing similar things! And almost no RU-vid videos I’ve found are about homesteading in the desert. So lo look forward to watching your videos!
Amazing what you are doing! In your arial view, your neighbours are not really that far away... when developing the farm, did any of them show concern regarding potential smell or noise ie. baby goats crying out?
I remember them mentioning that in a previous video- that they'd really like to have rabbits but they know that in the summer or (lack of winter persay but colder season of Arizona) they do have to keep them inside and because of so they have working out to do to make that possible. But I do remember a few videos ago of them briefly acknowledging that they do understand they need to keep them inside during certain seasons.
Cadence James not unless you have extreme temps like in Arizona. The temps they get during the summer could very well kill them. I’ve lost many rabbits due to the heat and we barely reach over 100*f in Wisconsin.
Cadence James they can be hardy but they can also be pretty delicate. Heat is definitely something you don’t want to mess with when it comes to rabbits.
Love your farm! Made me so excited to see how much you can do on an acre. We plan to buy some land in a couple of years when we dont need to be so close to town/schools.
This is probably the only RU-vid channel that actually makes me forget about the world and all the stresses I have. Every video is a moment of peace and I can't thank you guys enough 😭❤❤❤❤
I grew up on a fruit farm in Australia, Avacodo's generally take 20 + years to start fruiting, but what you can do to start this process earlier is once they are above 3m (9 - 10ft) graft a branch from an already fruiting tree to the one that isnt. The next fruiting season it will start fruiting. Hope this helps :)
I really appreciated your comments about pets versus meat animals as well as supporting local farmers. I would imagine it would be extremely difficult to treat an animal as a pet and then decide it was for food. No judgment of course but it would be difficult. One subject I don't recall hearing about was waste management. And finally, LOVE your vlogs!
Yes! I totally see eggs and goat milk, but raising animals for *meat* is becoming a real struggle for me. I am constantly watching videos of farm animals who just love people- and just the thought of slaughtering them, cutting them apart, blood flowing everywhere and having to hear their death screams, I couldn't live next to you. In South Korea, they raise dogs for meat! No difference. The same torture of our beloved friends. Please don't think I am one of those over the top vegetarians. I am 75 and had time to think about things since I retired. I totally believe that our animals are our needed companions. There is so much cruelty in this world, maybe our farm animals need to just enjoy their lives and give us what doesn't hurt them.
YES!YES!YES! Please give details on how you built and maintain your natural pond with bio-filter!!!! Would love to see videos or even just a slide show of process. LOVE your little homestead! You are a true inspiration for us all :)
Leave one banana palm by it self so it can give you the fruit. The banana tree takes a lot of energy. Cut the other ones and leave one by it self. When it starts getting little tree you need to cut cause it takes the energy, do not pull them from the ground because does the roots.
Rabbits. Please do rabbits. My dude rabbits are some of the cutest flufiest things in the world, other than baby goats. But bun buns are beautiful not to mention! I feel they would go along great with the rest of everything. And the garden could still be expanded seeing as rabbits don't need too much space, Cause most are fairly small.
Yes, although rabbits size doesn't really play a big roll in the amount of exercise they receive. No matter the size or breed the rabbit should always be allowed to have plenty of space to just be a rabbit.
