Transforming Rotten Fence into RAISED GARDEN BED | DIY Build

IF you use this on the deck, line the bottom with flat tin or aluminum, drill a hole thru side on ends, install a drain tube long enuff to drip water off deck, so's it doesn't rot it. Juss a suggestion. ❤💪😎👍 Great idea, Jason.✌ Pree Dee.❤

If you're going to put those on your timber deck, I would line it with something more substantial than plastic film. An affordable option is corflue, what it's called in Australia. It's a corrugated plastic board often used in real estate signs. It can be folded & plastic welded & never rots or deteriorates. I would also put a fibre cement board bottom to further protect the deck & raise it slightly with short feet to minimise contact. I did this 20yrs ago &, though I refresh the deck every 2 yrs, the wood is as good as new under these planter pots. Love you guys... you're doing it real... keep it up 🤙

Jason you got a good idea about making raised garden beds it's easy to maintain your garden all you need is topsoil in fertilizer to make it last a lot more on the inside use a weed mat

My suggestion is 2 planters on each corner of the deck.

As always I don’t think there’s anything you can’t do and it always turns out amazing but more importantly, I love how you always try to salvage things and save money.

You need to line the inside so you don’t rot what it sits on. I have raised beds on legs and I found that the cedar ones rotted after two years. I now have metal and fake wood beds and they are still good after two/three years. Love them!!

That raised flower/ garden box is beautiful...you could do your entire garden in these raised beds thats what chrisdy from paragon is doing!!..you have the material ,and the talent..i would!..you could make smaller boxes to place on your deck / silo home by your from door!!...lots of possibilities!!!

That’s crazy amazing! Looks so beautiful! You could even put legs on them and plant your veggies in them. Harder for critters to get in. Great work and way to recycle.

The planting boxes are beautiful. Forgot to mention for the windows in your grain silo build check out putting windows in shipping containers. There are two basic methods to install the windows.

you should have cut the groves wider so that when the slats grow thicker in high humidity conditions an split the "2x2" in half and ruin all your work. Wood shrinks an grows depending on the weather and seasons. Have fun with your new toys, You can also use those for coffins, ;) oh and drill holes for drainage.

Plastic may hold water against the wood, Shou sugi ban the inside to protect the wood (ancient Japanese technique for waterproofing and preserving wood. It involves charring the wood surface until it turns black.).

I love it. But you better line the inside because I use untreated 2 by 10s in my raised garden and I start replacing some in 4 or 5 years! Those thin boards will last a year without a lining!!

Screen the boxes in to keep critters out. Drill holes on bottom if you line the bottom for drainage.

You need to put hardware cloth on the bottom to keep rodents from coming up from the bottom to eat your veggies!

You CAN use treated wood for garden use because they don’t use the bad chemicals to treat any longer. They use micronized copper for treated wood now. Also don’t use plastic inside because you want it to drain well.

Jason and Danielle, I found this gentleman framing out his grain bin. He is a new RU-vidr. I thought he might be someone you could watch for ideas. His channel is: Tri-Silo creations. The one I just watched was him framing his bin. I also wanted to share that, my ex hung drywall. I went with him on a few of his jobs. When he came into an area where he had a valley (such as your curved walls) he would score the back of the drywall without cutting completely through. It would give enough to fit onto frame perfectly. Love your raised garden bed idea. Thanks for sharing.

Wow those are beautiful. A lot of work though. To preserve the inside of the wood can you do that burn technique. It would be easy to do if you had one of those torches... You could also do those frames like you did it and insert old aluminum siding Into it.

creativity in action, good job. One way to place the flower containers without damaging the wooden deck is to create a raised platform, or feet that are outside the deck but in contact with it.

Jason, awesome carpentry techniques used in the pump house, coup and raised bed stuff I would not have thought of but, viewers can take it with them if they should need it on their next builds.
