Very interesting! On the flip side, it would be fascinating to explore the medical innovations that have emerged as a response to the health consequences faced by individuals affected by smoking.
The use of social drugs such as nicotine is integral to the classical human experience. However, recent generations have been warned of the use of such products, and not solely for the physical risks associated with smoke inhalation. Additionally, as it has fallen out of favor in recent times, smoking (and even vaping in some strict cases) has been de-incentivized by a lack of designated public smoking areas and a ban on the use of these products in many apartment complexes. Kudos to you for tackling such a controversial topic, and let's all hope for a future in which health and safety do not detract from the historical and personal significance that comes with partaking in such human experiences. Innovations such as those discussed in this video are a great start.
As someone who used to LOVE smoking, it’s intriguing to see how the industry is “helping” people by adapting their strategies. I’ve never heard the decline in smoking attributed to the tobacco industries responsibility before- makes you think lol.
An interesting topic. I feel though the harms are somewhat camouflaged, and it still poses ongoing challenges to public health and the tobacco control efforts.
When you ignore the health implications of tobacco, it is interesting to see how the industry has had to change and adapt to government regulations and what sort of innovations that has driven due to external factors.
I'm having difficulty liking this video on principal, but it does sound pretty catchy! Maybe I should start :) In all seriousness, I was glad to see there is an overall downward trend however I'm not convinced it's due to safer choices provided by tabacco companies or if it's due to a more educated consumer base.
I found this video very interesting! It is truly amazing how far the innovation of tobacco has come as there are some many different ways that tobacco is used. I would like to challenge for discussion, is this an industry we want to be innovating within? As we know, tobacco contributes to a lot of health problems and consumers are more health conscious now a days. I would be interested if it's possible to innovate a product that can replicate the effects of tobacco consumers seek while eliminating the health concerns.
wow interesting topic! I would love to see the tobacco industry innovate more the use of it's product for something other than smoking, I feel like these new products although they pose less of a health risk, people have so much easier access, they are smoking twice as much and it's still equally as bad for them
It's very interesting, but I cant help but feel most of these innovations to manufacturing, flavour, and quality are incremental innovations. I would love to see the tobacco industry take some of the innovations that they have come up with (perhaps in the manufacturing side) and apply them to something that has a greater potential benefit to society. How can they turn their (shrinking) customer base into a net societal benefit? Perhaps they could innovate on the health and environmental side by building in costs for contributions to lung cancer research and offsetting environmental impacts. Maybe even something like biodegradable cigarettes to prevent liter. Rather than advancing the same product, it would be interesting to see them find something that fills the same need that customers get from smoking. Perhaps this is what they are trying to do with vaping, but that looks like it will have it's own health concerns.
Interesting how vapes introduced smoking to younger people. By removing the cancer-causing tobacco, others may be more inclined to smoke vapes for it nicotine.
