The first involvement of Roberto D'Andrea in Transit was in this series of two programs on the Melbourne - Calcutta Sister City Relationship with it's tramways. We met a few of the trammies from South Melbourne Depot in this episode.
Roberto. How come I have only just found this post? You must have filmed this on my day off! I guess the only thing that has survived from this video is your uniform and possibly your outfit (and the footing of the depot fence). Everything else is gone! I am writing this from South Australia. The lock downs back in 2020 finished Melbourne for me. What a fabulous city. What fabulous people. And what a fabulous time it was to be there. That tram depot was our second home and our workmates were our extended family. Sadly the campaign to cancel that workplace culture has been successful. In memory of the more colourful characters who are no longer with us, let us not forget that at Hanna Street we changed the points with 'wands' and trolley poles were replaced with 'panties', not pantographs. Thanks for posting. 'Wundie!'
