The linguistic diversity of our country shines through beautifully in an exercise as large as the general elections, but it is pertinent to pay attention to the smaller details too. Why do leaders from the Southern part of India rarely - if ever - come to campaign in the north? Why don't they make use of translators and speak to Hindi audiences of the North? How do politicians work through the differences in language as they travel across the country? Today in vox vrinda, we look at these interactions.

Wow! What a knowledgeable account on the translation in political speeches! I never knew this played such an important part in delivering the speaker's message and impacting the way public will react to it. Good job Vrinda. I also had to become a translator once in Egypt where our Minister spoke in Hindi and I had to translate in English. My job was fairly easy as we had prepared the outline and contents of his speech together.

Very interesting topic. The national fabric is warped because of language barriers. This needs a whole series. Include the media's hurdles in reporting across various regions as well and how a nationwide media channel can evolve with such limitations.

Vrinda madam all the best. We want to see you with Ravish kumar again and again in future shows. As you said Translating speach is not an easy task specially when a speaker is not supportive snd polite like Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. Even if someone fails to translate properly they never get angry instead they support them. That is called good human behaviour.

Very good issue raised. Good video clips too. Again rightly noticed the point of patient crowd in terms of north- south demographics of India including leaders. Further both Rahul and Priyanka are more thankful than Amit Shah.
