End-to-End Testing can appear to be a daunting task. However, any relay tester can perform successful end-to-end Tests with a basic a basic understanding of transmission line protection (or 21 impedance protection) along and some preparation before the testing is scheduled to begin.
The first video in our end-to-end testing series starts with an introduction to transmission line protection (also called impedance protection, 21-element protection, or line distance protection). A good understanding of basic line protection will go a long way towards understanding the different communication-assisted schemes typically used when end-to-end testing is performed.
This video expands on the descriptions found in The Relay Testing Handbook: Principles and Practice, Testing Line Distance Protective Relays (21), and End-to-End Testing. You can order any of these books in print or as digital pdf downloads at our store (relaytraining.c....

This is the very good and clear video for explanation of the distance protection relays. I will recommend it for a young people starting to study this theme.

Dear Sir, The playlist is really amazing and it helped a lot in understanding the distance protection and end to end testing from scratch. There is request, if you can provide the same presentation then it would be really helpful.

Great video. It cleared my doubt about the zones. Can you please explain which relay will cover a fault in the part between the bus and the CT first?
@Relaytraining

That area should be protected by a bus differential relay.

i dont understand at time 7.08 min they said that at last 30 % of line1 if fault occurs adjacent relay operate first.why this ? adjacent relay is not issue na main issue is to protect genrator side (substation side). first relay 1 has to operatr?

how do you know that the relay will detect the short circuit current as 8 A and voltage is 40 V at the 50% of the transmission line?
@Relaytraining
@Relaytraining 9 лет назад
Suharti Hajar Impedance protection works for any voltage and current with a ratio less than the reach setting. That's one of the reasons we use distance protection. Any voltage/current ratio that equals 5 Ohms would be a fault 50% down the line
@Relaytraining
@Relaytraining 8 лет назад
+Gautham Ashokkumar It could be 50/10 = 5 Ohms, but I already used 50V for a fault at the end of the line. The fault voltage will get smaller as it gets closer to the relay PTs, so a fault 50% down the line would be smaller that 50V. I randomly picked 40V. In the real-world, the amount of voltage drop would be dependent on the line impedance, fault impedance, source impedance, and strength of the sources.

Where the Zone-3 will come?
@Relaytraining
@Relaytraining 5 лет назад
It depends on the owner/operator. Some Zone 3s are large forward-looking zones with long time delays (60-90 cy), some are reverse-looking zones with long time delays, some look in the reverse direction and share information about the fault with another relay.
