You didn't have to pull the shifter piece out of the transmission

is this a 91 Ford Festiva?

With the shifter out of the way why did you still remove the three screws to pull the rest out of the transmission? I'm doing this now but was hoping that I didn't have to pull the shifter out of the transmission to get the transmission out. Shouldn't you be able to drop it with the shifter gone?
