I just did this today to my 98 Tacoma, using a set of ramps in my driveway. I followed this video. The only difference was that I sprayed the adhesive on the gasket instead of on the rim of the pan, I just didn't want to get glue into the pan that I had just so thoroughly cleaned. Other than that, it went exactly like the video. It saved me $120! Thanks Pros!

@a.c.king-dk5yl1ep2m
@a.c.king-dk5yl1ep2m Год назад
@@mvega545 I actually used the same adhesive they used in the video. I laid the gasket down side up on a flat piece of cardboard and sprayed on the adhesive then I just flipped it over and lined it up onto the pan. But, I used a gas and oil resistant automotive gasket sealer on the other side of the gasket against the transmission. I think I used Permatex ultra or optimum black (sensor safe), I didn't trust the job to regular silicone.

Nice video. I watched it this morning before performing the work on my wife's 2004 Tacoma. It made the process go much smoother. Nothing like being prepared! I didn't remove the dip stick tube. It wasn't a problem. The hardest part is getting the old gasket material off the pan! Thanks!

On my '96 Tacoma 4x4 automatic the last guy that did this job really hosed me! No pan gasket, just RTV, plenty of it too! I had the opportunity to utilize my vast array of ball-peen hammers, starting with the small one....and a gasket scraper as a chisel. The only spot to get a good swing was on the rear right corner. Every other angle had driveshafts, sway-bar and exhaust pipes in the way. Fortunately the damage and distortion to the edge of the oil pan was correctable with a file and some straightening techniques. I was so relieved when the pan finally started to separate from the transmission. What a miserable time consuming task it was to remove the layer of RTV from the oil pan. It was much easier removing the RTV from the mating edge of the transmission. Time will tell how well the oil pan seals to the transmission again. Using a gasket of course. I will try without any RTV or glue at first and hope that the gasket will seal. Tomorrow I will take the pan and filter to the auto parts store to match it to the correct filter and gasket kit. Apparently there are 3 different kits for this year Tacoma. A 14 bolt pan for 4x2 model. 2 (maybe 3) kits for the 19 bolt pan for 4x4 models. With a shallow or a deep. Since this is a job that should be done routinely, does anyone have a way of sealing the gasket so it comes apart easily for the next time?

I have a 2002 Tacoma V6 Double-Cab 4x4 with an Aisin automatic transmission. My owner’s manual says to use Dexron III which is a GM ATF. GM upgraded their ATF to Dexron VI and it’s backward compatible to Dexron III. Make sure that you refer to your owner’s manual for the correct ATF and that you buy a licensed and approved OEM ATF.

HI. I have a 1997 Toyota T100, 4WD, Automatic, SR5, 3.4L V6, with roughly 350,000 miles on it. A couple years ago, I noticed the transmission did not want to shift down to 1st gear at a stop. I had to begin manually shifting in "L", then shift up to 2nd, then "D". Finally, about a year ago, it stopped shifting into top gear, but it also would Illuminate the "D" & "L" lights at the same time, and would not shift out of first gear . So it sat. This Labor Day weekend, I decided I was going to change out all three shift solenoids. I finally got all the work done and was ready for a test drive. At first, it acted the same with the "D" & "L" lights illuminated. I shifted into "2" and was returning home. I stopped at a sign, put it into "D" and the "L" didn't light up. So I turned around the block to put it on the highway and test it at speed, before I got to the highway, the "L" came on again and wouldn't go off again while in "D". My battery is fried from sitting so long and old age, and I do have some electrical problems with the truck. My right headlight will get really dim sometimes, and the only way to get it back to normal is to disconnect the left headlight, then reconnect it. With the lights acting the way they are, and the shifting correcting itself for a short while, then malfunctioning again, I'm curious if the whole thing is nothing more than some sort of electrical grounding issue. I live in rural Indiana and no transmission shops would touch my Toyota with a ten foot pole, so i had to do it myself. Any insights?

There is an 8 digit transmission code on a sticker in the driver door threshold. Can anyone confirm from experience that the type shown in the video is for A340E? I just replaced the leaking gasket over the weekend, this video was fundamental in order to do the job as I had no idea where to start so thank you for doing this. Taking off the old glue was the most painful part, more so at the upper part since the residue can linger inside the transmission if you are not careful. I would've like to see how much oil should I use to refill which is around 6 qts, Initially I did it based on the manual (around 2.5 qts) which was not enough since the filter is also replaced. Also, I think it should be recommended to do a power flush since draining does not flush all the transmission oil by gravity itself. Again, thanks for the video and even though it took a long time for me to do the job, my tacoma is running back again with no leaks, cheers!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: My owners manual said for a drain and fill, 2.1 qts for my 97 Toyota 4runnner. It failed to mention anywhere in the manual anything about how much to service if you're dropping the pan AND filter change. If you're dropping the pan and filter changing, it brought my servicing from 2.1 qts to 10-11qts!! A huge difference. I know this video is for a Tacoma but my4runner was identical. Make sure to check a forum or do more online research for your respective vehicle to make sure you service enough before driving. In my case the owners manual didn't provide enough info.

This is about the 6 cylinder tacoma. For the 4-cylinder, don't try removing the oil filter, it's simply impossible, serious garage work, as you can't move filter between 2 metal hoses and bevels all around. A solution would be nice. Also make sure you have the right gasket, as Napa looked up my VIN and still came with the 6-cylinder gasket.

A fifth of tequila, two gallons of margarita mix, plenty of ice, and about... five pounds of nachos. Most vehicles, dropping the pan only gets you changing out less than half of system capacity. Does anyone know the transmission fluid capacity of a 2000 tacoma prerunner 3.4 transmission? I have a Haynes manual and it says 1.7 that i know is not correct. I have also read anywhere from 4 to 7 quarts. Does anyone know the correct amount?Thank you

Yeah I know that the filter has to be changed. Good idea about draining the torque converter though. Thank you Cheers

Please Help, i need advice.. I own a 1998 Toyota Tacoma , and over the last 5 months the trucks been getting more and more hesitant to shift into "Reverse".. when i put it into drive, the truck works fine, going nicely through all the gears.. So why does she have trouble going into reverse. its so odd.. ( I have plenty of Fluid )... Thanks.Ziggy

ziggy if it mainly happens when its cold it may just need a filter/fluid change. If you found a fix, post it here.

Isn't power-flushing better? I used to drain, change filter and fill my Chevy 700R4 like this, but you can drain about one third of the fluid, correct? Power-flushing is better. Using coupons I've gotten engine and trans. flushed for $300 out the door before.
@jmb92555
@jmb92555 8 лет назад
+juan cisterne I don't think it's better. You an flush the old fluid out by doing the pan drain and then flush the torque converter by disconnecting the trans cooler return line. I'm sure there are videos on youtube with the entire process.

So what was the point of spraying the 3m to hold it in place....placing it and then taking it off to show the camera, just to place it back? I don't understand this step.

Silicone rubber around the diptube , do they mean household caulking or rtv.
@2carpros
@2carpros 2 года назад
Silicone Rubber in a tube is the same thing as RTV as long as the temp range is the same. RTV actually stands for Room Temperature Vulcanizing Silicone Rubber. Thanks for watching!

@maxwellanderson8025
@maxwellanderson8025 5 лет назад
Would you put the amount the trans takes because I'm pretty sure the torque converter is holding 1 or 2 quarts of fluid then too much fluid ends in aeration and cause a lot of issues

At 3:40 What is an air gasket gun?
@dillonthompson9656
@dillonthompson9656 3 года назад
I wouldn't use a dribble ( whatever tool he used) for this purpose especially if you are using a gasket. It will wear down the bonding surface causing the tourqe to be pointless ultimately leading to leaks. Just take your time with a straight edge and be sure no material made it into the transmission ( will clog the valve body ) use break cleaner and wipe clean.
