A few tips from someone with 1200+ hrs in the Transport Fever franchise: Squirrel mentions it, but it's extremely critical in hard mode to have as little remaining loan at all times, the interest will kill you over time if you just keep it there 6 vehicles is too few, 12 is better, but if you use the line menu in the bottom right corner, you can see how much "product" the vehicles can shift per year - matching that with the amount of products that the city demands will ensure fulfilled demand and good profits. With this particular line, beware of the two-to-one ratio for crude to oil, so if the city demanded 40 fuel, setting the line up with a rate of 80 would work fine. Setting up a supplemental crude line just to supply more of it is even better, over a long enough distance, it will make money, even with a train. I've never really experimented starting with passengers on hard mode, but all data available suggests, contrary to TpF, that it is better to begin with a goods line, because the new freight system guarantees revenue from the get-go. Glad to see you pick this up, I'll definitely be back for more. Cheers.

if you have a 30 mill loan you pay 300k per year in interest.

Guess I went the hard route. When I played hard mode for the first time, I was achievement hunting. So I was doing trains only but specifically did passengers only because of my experience with TF1. After a few bust runs, I worked out the kinks and had a really successful run. The issue I had though was at a point, i had to stop using trains and passenger cars and just use exclusively the single body models. Too unreliable any other way. Edit Started at 1850

I just downloaded TRANSPORT FEVER 2 a few days ago and started my first ever map exactly as in this series. I did start at 1850 and on medium (to give me more time to learn), and am not following this 100%, but this series has to be the BEST explanation of ANY sim game EVER!!!! Thanks so much for this! This is now my favourite game.....and I have only just moved into the 20th century (1901 right now...). I mainly run it at 1/4 speed, or even pause time for stretches, just so time doesn't run away from me while i get the hang of it...

They work from the very get go if you set the train up right, wheat to food, than the closest copper/iron for the return trip to a drop of as close to you start as possible. Always make them wait for full load, never run them below full also these product mentioned full up quick so there is always more than enough ready so your train never waits except the very first run. I only play on very hard as anything less you only need your train taking stuff one way and can be empty on return and still turn a profit once you hit the 2nd train in 1958 which is way to easy.

7:45 This actually isn't true in Transport Fever 2, it was true in 1 and Train Fever, but now a factory will demand as many raw goods as it could potentially use at it's current level, even if it doesn't have anywhere to send it. That said, it also won't upgrade unless you deliver it's goods somewhere, so you do still need to deliver the goods to the cities.
@SbgamingTv
@SbgamingTv 3 года назад
Yep. It is incorrect to say you have to complete a production chain. I'll admit it isn't one of the changes to the game I was in favor of, as it made the game wildly too easy. Any cargo route you setup will make a profit so long as you aren't taking an inefficient windy path, and having industries upgrade only matters when you have enough demand for product coming from cities. You can still make a ton of money sending raw materials to intermediate facilities without even sending anything to the cities. Just connect up enough of them and throw enough vehicles at the problem. Then once you have all the money you could ever need, you can leisurely build a map wide network.

24:45 wrong! This is the way they dealed with aging vehicles in Transport Fever 1. in part 2 they’ve introduced emissions wich increase as the vehicle ages, they don’t get more expensive anymore (!). This leads to it only being effective to ramp up the maintenance for vehicles that mainly operate through residential areas, I never use it for trains (It’s not worth it).

This is certainly true. But it is worth noting that the amount they demand will be limited by their level. The fuel refinery has a demand of just 100 oil at level 1.

You should place your truckstops as far away from the industry you can, while being in the catchment area. That way you reduce the distance your trucks have to travel from there, to the drop-off point and back. It might not seem like a lot, but every second you can win back, is money earned at the end of the month.
@Vimpmeat
@Vimpmeat 3 года назад
This is a common mistake some players make. In actuality you want the distance to be as far as possible since you are paid for the distance between your stops. I imagine some players think that the money you are paid is based on the distance between the factories, but that is wrong.

Note: what squirrel here wanted to showcase is - You always want to be travelling with goods on your vehicles. However, i don't think he did it the right way. 1- The timing: He's setting up the entire production chain right away, but, as you saw, there were not goods available yet on most of the route. 2 - The percentage of use The first industry to pump out usable resources is the crude field. It stands to reason you should first put vehicles to work on moving those resources to the crude refinery, so they're actually being used FULL. A half filled vehicle may simply be a money drain. Money doesn't just have to come in, it has to come in more than it goes out. 3- My solution (and overall how i do it most times) The points he created are dead on the same ones i would. However, i'd make a station, not just a dropoff point in the city for futureproofing. First line - Leaving from the closest crude station to the town, dropping off at the crude refinery, and stopping by the town station before restarting. This ensures the only distance travelled without cargo is from the town to the oil field. Second Line - From the Crude refinery to the fuel refinery. This line has 100% use, as all vehicles here will be full on the initial leg as well as the return of the trip. (This will likely make the most money) Third Line - Very optional, still reccomended A trip from another oil field, to the crude refinery. This will not be as profitable, but will feed the other two lines, and make it so they're always running at capacity. Why this layout? This enables you to measure how many vehicles are necessary with regards to the ratio's of the production. Fuel to oil is a 1x1 ratio, so the vehicles on line 2 will aways go back and forth full after one or two trips. Crude to oil is a 2x1 ratio. This means if you use similar amounts of vehicles from line 1, you'll ensure the vehicles on line 2 will never be running at capacity. (and that's not good for you wallet)
@powerpc6037
@powerpc6037 2 года назад
You should split up your route into 2 separate parts. the first part is where you bring crude oil to the refinery. The second part is where you take the refined oil from the oil refinery to the fuel refinery and back. The first part should also pickup the fuel and take it into the city and then go back to the oil well. Otherwise you take 2 crude and for the rest of the trip, your trucks run half empty because you only produce 1 refined oil.

Nice video, Squirrel! As a player of TF2 myself, I'm a little confused why you built the truck stations where you did. I'm speaking specifically of the Lower Laughton station. Why place the truck station directly across the street from the factory? If you placed it up the road to the very edge of the catchment, you could cut off a pretty significant chunk of travel time, especially important given the slow trucks in 1900. The others have traffic coming from both directions (or will once you start service to Mableforth and Sutton) so I can understand why you'd want them in the middle. The other thing I'm wondering is, why start with a multi-stage good like Fuel? You have a perfectly viable food route in the same area. It pays less than your Fuel Oil run for sure, but has a lower infrastructure cost and will get up and running and profitable much faster than Fuel. I'd definitely want that in place as a "fail safe" to earn something while waiting for that fuel oil run to become profitable. Personally, I'd definitely have started with food. But I really enjoyed the video and am eager for the next! I'm definitely thinking about playing the same map myself and seeing who can get to a billion faster. (Based off in-game date, of course, not real time.)
@peterw.8434
@peterw.8434 3 года назад
I get what you mean, but you should consider that the further a good travels (just tested this out, it is about the distance between the two stations, road length is not considered) the more money it will make, so its not a big issue if you make the trucks run a longer route, I think they would even make more money as they run on a higher average speed when the stops are further apart (won’t be a great difference but worth considering for this short distance).

You want them traveling as far as possible for max profit the idea is to build it the furthest away that it still lights up the drop of or pick up zone, so at first he may have them say bring copper from the local copper mine to the closest drop of but later you will make it so they take that copper to one a lot further away and ones from far away are bring it to the one they use to.

I found 3 other Mods in the Workshop on Steam that new players differently need: 1: The UNDO Button. Saves so much time. 2: Rail Tracks X'ing. Yes someone made this, so the rest of us can save time. 3: Free landscaping. I know it might be considered cheating by some, but I feel like it saves time and makes the game so much better. And you can sculpt your environment from the beginning of the game. I hope this helps new players...

I hate broken timescales in games... It took that truck about a year to get from the depot, to the oil rig, to the refinery. A whole year to deliver 5 barrels.

Really wanted to play this game, but missed the steam sale and was annoyed I'd have to wait for the next one, then looked through my library and realized I bought it back in 2020, I was like finding $50 in a pair of pants you hadn't worn for a long time.

Well you said something like: "the shorter your delivery lines are, the more money they makes". But it's actually the opposite. In transport Fever 2, when your lines are huge, you earn tremendously more money for each delivery. Now you also need wayyyyyyyyyyy much more vehicles to have a good rate so the initial investment is huge.

27:59 - Should have just told that one to turn back to the oil well (skip to location #1). It's now going to go through the rest of the line completely empty, costing you money, when it could be bringing more crude to the refinery (and getting paid for it) instead.

I don’t know why you’re so negative about debt. In the early game, debt allows you to expand rapidly - as long as your earn more money from what you do with the debt than you spend on the interest, it’s good.

Indeed. The fastest way to grow in this game is to make full use of your entire loan limit as quickly as possible. If you can make a profit from $1 million loan, than you can potentially make 10* the profit with a $10 million loan.

Hi Paul, I just started to play the game this evening, and dear me, it's a lot.. Thank you for all the helpfull tips so far (I'm at 12:27 now). As soon as I get the chance to play again I'll start a new map, with all the features you've shown in this video. I'm going to use your playthrough as a guide to get me started, without going broke the next time (I hope...). Greetings from Eindhoven NL, Bas
