Transport Fever 2 - Signal Tutorial - The Basics 

I've played over 200 hours but didn't realize the difference between one way, and two way signals. Thanks for that^^

I'm enjoying the game very much. Admittedly, train signals are the bane of my existence so far. I have watched dozens of YT video by some accomplished providers, some have helped, some not-so-much. However, you literally are the only person to not just "gloss over" the one way signal thing. Thanks for that. Great explanation. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

This finally answered how these work where other videos do not. However now that I get it I feel that there is a more concise way to describe them. Two-way signals will allow passage into the next track block when it is clear in both directions. One-way signals will always block traffic against the arrow regardless of occupancy. That previous one sentence explains what other 10min videos did not. I also didn't know if signals applied to just one track or apply to a whole gang of them.

So, one thing that threw me for a loop (coming from OpenTTD) was that Transport Fever 2 only uses path based signals. Essentially, when a train hits a signal, it scans forward to see if there's a safe (protected by a signal) stopping point (in front of another signal) on the train's path that doesn't run into another reserved path. If there is, it reserves the path and clears the train through. If there isn't, it holds the train. This is essentially how the US Track Warrant system works, where a huge percentage of the US Rail network is unsignaled and controlled by dispatchers the way ATC controls airways.

Note, you don't need to delete the signal to change from one way to two way. Simply select the signal and click the YES or NO for one way or two way operation.
