Everything we are working for is to increase the profitability of our heartline. The delivery of fuel to towns is only there to facilitate our heartline. Today we setup another set of services: Passengers. And like the fuel delivery to towns, this passenger service is going to only be marginally profitable, but serve a far more important function than that of a few extra bucks here and there.

Pinstar, the reason your deliveries to Ficklewood are piling up is because you mixed the two towns up while naming the lines. So every wagon you sent to Ficklewood actually went to Pelican Town and vice versa. Other than that, loved the episode!

Tip to keep things organised... Put Ind, Com and Pas at the front of your line names that feed towns, that way in Line Manager all your routes will be grouped by type, Commercial first, then industrial and then Passenger. If you want to give the supply routes (Oil - Refinery, Stone - Construction Materials, etc) than you could put Misc in front to group those together as well.Also I've started renaming Bus / Truck terminals to indicate their actual function i.e. The truck terminal at the refinery would be called Pelican Refinery which makes it more meaningful in the stations list, especially when you're looking for cargo bottlenecks. Great series, clear explanations as to 'why' you're doing something the way you do it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Line naming is very helpful in keeping things ordered when looking at lists. Skye Storme uses prefixes of RP for all Road Passenger lines, TP for Train Passenger and TF for Train Freight with the type of freight as the surname I use numbers as prefixes for my Passenger lines: 1- for Intercity rail , 2- for inner city buses, 3 for trams, 4 for airplanes, Yes, you can filter on vehicle type as well. I like to use the two city names for point to point passenger lines between town and mnemonic names for all others that general contain the nearest city/origin city and the type of goods they'll be concentrating on.

Your naming style is going to get you many headaches later on in the game. You should name them after the final destination - Ficklewood Crude Supply, Ficklewood Fuel Supply and so on. With passengers, same system - first the name of town and then the function. That way you will see them piling up in a list for convenient selection. Then, with fuel delivery you should set the trucks to transport only fuel and not crude, that way they will not transport the fuel back to the Crude terminal(although it's an extra buck, it will mess up the supply chain). Better solution there would be to set up another Fuel transport hub in between the towns and have a separate line from refinery to that hub, from where to distribute the fuel into towns with dedicated lines/trucks(it will take some time at start to settle the supply chain, basically it starts kicking off after the first complete circle of the first trucks on every sector of supply chain). Remember to set the trucks to specified goods! Or you will eventually have some odd stuff in odd places. You also can get tips where to expand by checking buildings, people and cars inside towns, to get the idea where they work, where they shop and what they need.

when assigning bus stations to a line, you don't have to click directly to a bus station, just click on a station icon above the actual station. It is not much but it will save you some time :) And maybe there is no need for two inner city bus lines. Because the big bus station is a turn point for buses so you can go like this: main bus station>2nd>3rd>4th > main bus station>4th>3rd>2nd. Your buses will start clockwise and when they do full circle they will go back anti-clockwise

I'm commenting again on this older video because I'm playing this game again. Several years ago I had my most profitable, albeit boring, game of TF by not building any ships, planes, and crucially -- trains. All road vehicles. By the time I was around a thousand my computer was struggling to keep up, but my wealth was staggering. 😄

SO other things i picked up in my days, if you move the window for a given station it will keep it open and any catchment area will remain visible which helps with seeing coverage so as not to overlap too much, also if you zoom in there are lines that run along the roads that also indicate the catchment and when it's near the end there is a break so you can place the station at that exact spot.

This is a fantastic series of tutorials so far. A quick question though... if I get negligent and for example stop transporting refined oil (fuel) and the supply subsequently drops to 0, is it possible to increase the supply again eventually or are you stuffed?

I am waiting year 1865, when lifetime of most vehicles will come to end and you will need to renew them or they will not work as effiecient as wanted. So far nice job and good episodes.

just subscribed, you do a really well job on explaining how to do things. Would like to know how to keep wagons from carrying items you don't want. When I use auto picking items, I always get something I don't want when they get to station. How do you get them to auto pick correct item.

did you try placeing in more bus stop then you ever intended to use for buses and or freight?

Just to let you know, you screwed up he naming of fuel deliveries to the towns, you have the names going to the wrong city.

I've pre-recorded to episode 4 so I won't see or fix this mistake then, but come episode 5 I'll remedy the situation. Thanks for pointing it out.

Can you encourage people to move from towns where you aren't fulfilling their needs,to towns where you are,and grow your towns in that respect?
@Pinstar
@Pinstar 7 лет назад
I don't think it's quite that dynamic. Unserviced towns merely remain in relative stasis while supplied ones grow. Hooking up two towns together with passenger service will grow both of them rather than drain the smaller one into the larger one.

A little disingenuous to compare a line almost three times the size of another, when trying to compare profitability, no? I'm sorry, but this series is so awful, I just can't watch anymore. Maybe you actually know how to play Stellaris, or StS? We'll see how those look before I unsub. I mean, you're not even considering finishing the road network in towns, as a result you have no turnarounds. This is probably why you can't seem to make a buck using the most profitable (passengers) cargo in the game.
