Very professional. Your attention to detail and safety is second to none. As a retired driver of 46 years it's good to see a top shelf hand. Well done sir.
Fancy Gap is terrific! First time I went through there was 1997 when I moved from Minnesota to North Carolina. If you haven't been through it at night, put that on your bucket list!! I love the view as you come out of the mountains southbound on 77!
I also have the same memories of Fancy Gap after driving Raleigh NC back and forth to Toronto after we moved South from Canada. Great memories with my parents as well so thanks for sharing, both of you
Obviously teaching, dedication and hard work are important factors to success but what we are seeing is a person who has natural talents that are off the charts at a young age and getting better every day. SUPER Mario keep on trucking!
As a European truck driver, I’m always impressed by the ridiculous lengths to be legally for the weight! And good job with all the non steerable trailers you mostly pull! Keep up the good work and nice videos. Greetings from Holland.
I can only Imagine how much of a pain in the ass that would have been to navigate through montreal, Let alone florida. Thanks for the great video and keep them coming, please
HiDoug Love these videos. I used to go through Fancy Gap a lot when driving back and forth from Detroit to Greenville, SC. You are a patient and safe driver, which I admire. I was and am the same way.
Thanks for the ride along. Retired after 42 years driving, but I always have been a fair climate driver. Heavy haul would have been interesting, but I don't think I would have had enough patience.
I used to do high load escorts as a telephone engineer: Taking down wires lower than the load and putting them back up, running with Police escorts, mainly at night. Retired 6 months now.
Tombé par hasard sur ce video la, excellent contenu de qualité!! En bonus, je viens de Mont-Saint-Hilaire, juste a côté de Beloeil donc agréablement surpris pour la fin :)
I just discovered this video, I passed yall going opposite direction on highway 81 in pennsylvania. Couldnt see myself cause the part where i saw you was cut out but nice trucking!
You probably would have fun watching the German U-Boat which just makes his way through Germany :) It's U-17 driving to Technik Museen Sinsheim und Speyer :)
Only Justin Tredeau would put contrete planter boxes in an road intersection. May I ask the language you are speaking once you cross the border (to an Aussie it sounds like a cross between French and an Indian dialect). Cheers mate and thanks for the ride along.
I'm sure you get to California once in a while, but maybe just for vacations. I used to have comparable views on my daily commute, taking I280 between San Jose and San Mateo.
1:12:58 Right by my old office there off Washington Avenue Extension in Albany, NY. Too bad they make you avoid the toll roads. Would've been a lot easier. Nobody wants to go by Crossgates Mall in a truck that long (or any vehicle, really)... 😊
Gday from Australia 🇦🇺!!! I am a flatbedder truck driver here in Australia!!! You call a taxi we call a dolly !!! What's the dolly for on the back ??? Added access weight ????
1:06:16 I love how people consider this amount of wires absolutely normal, but in the same breath complain that trains can't have overhead wires, because they look ugly ;)
Would be great if you could provide us with some idea as to the costs for these trips to both your company and the customer. I am sure they are much more than we would imagine. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Still weird that they dont use special trailers in the US, like in Europe and most other countrys that have steerable axles that help maneuver such a long vehicel easier 🤔
How do you like that Allison in a heavy haul? Do you have an auxiliary rear end? I’d take them over any manual transmission. You don’t have to worry about ripping any drive shafts out.
The Allison has proven it can handle the job. This truck does not have an auxiliary. Unfortunately as it is the Allison will not out pull an 18 speed on a hill and it has proven to consume significantly more fuel. Maybe with an added auxiliary the results would be different
You fellas in the US have the most crap trailers that make it so much hard work. Out here in Australia we use platform trailers with steerable axles and it wouldn’t be much longer than the length of the crane.
suggestion like this, you may want to cut thoses into 20 minutes for daily uploads as an evolving story trough the week (i know that only make 6 days BUT ! ) and the last day of the week, you upload the regular 2h video. The idea behind this is to toutch a larger audience as not everyone on yt is for going to 2h videos (its going to take some more time at the beggining, the time you find ways to think of thoses cuts at montage time but once you get used to it, it will only represent few minutes more and dont forget that yt makes it easy to schedule video releases so they always get out at the same time every day of the week, making more peoples adding a place in their shedule and pressing f5's repeatedly for minutes before the time to see if its up yet) i expect that you see obivious results of that within the first month of doing it. Jsais que c'est pas mal développé pour une suggestion mais ... jsuis comme ca 🤷♂
I listen to all suggestions! Thank you. So far the times I have tried multiple part videos they have not had much success. Maybe I will try again. Or maybe my specific audience prefers longer videos 🤷🏼♂️
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 oh both wont have same success, but those who will watch the "daily" will probably not be all the same public than for the whole longer ones. the idea behind this is to expand the potential audience you can reach and interest. on the "end of month report" you will see a difference. Take care !
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Another one if you don't mind me asking; Are you an owner operator or company employed? What does someone make doing heavy haul in North America?
I try and give truckers space and let them in where I can. But the truckers are different now, seem like they are not appreciative, and they now to be more aggressive... Just my thoughts. Still give them space, when I went back west hauling a 35' cargo trailer, you need help where possible.
Your Dad must be a great natural teacher and someone with a lot of patience. It's obvious in your attention to detail and how you never force anything. From leaving a stop sign or dealing with clueless four wheelers you act the same. I was also blessed with two parents who never stopped teaching us patience and understanding human nature. After nearly 50 years in higher education I am reminded daily of how fortunate I was and how lucky my two boys are. It's this parents hope that they will carry on that same gift. Thank you Doug for always teaching me something new about your work with each trip. Please wish your Dad a Happy Father's Day from one of your avid followers.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Always seek inner peace. I am trained as an exercise physiologist and it's obvious you'll avoid a lot of long range health issues as long as you continue to not let the little stuff bother you. As a parent it was never easy to not let my boys see me get angry. Both have turned out to be slow to anger unless when competing in sport. That's when I let the refs sort it out. Be safe Doug.
I've bee up and down Fancy Gap several times and never get over the beauty of the scenery. That is a long pull and if you didn't have that 565 under the hood, that would have been tough.
Your videos just keep getting better and better. Love the outside the truck explanations on unhooking and how load can change when you uncouple the truck. Keep at it!
I went out and bought American Truck Simulator on the PC because just watching you trucking wasn't cutting it. Love the channel! You and your team are true professionals
Ah! A fellow virtual trucker! 😎👍🏻 I play ATS and ETS2 with a VR headset. I can definitely recommend that. It feels so real it’s like I’m in my dads truck again but now I get to drive! 😃
Doug , Doug here , your smooth my friend , your knowledge is impressive, the engine cooling fan was working overtime pulling the heat out of engine going up Fancy gap . Keep up the good work and be safe out there , hat is off to you in my salute to you .DDDDDOUG
As always I am along for the ride, the views, and experience! You started out full of vim and vigour, ready to take on anything, but you were glad to get to your destination towards the end of the video!! It’s obvious you need stamina to do this type of work and I consider it a privilege to be an appreciative passenger via your video coverage! Keep on trucking and thanks again for inviting us along for the ride!
It always feels good when the load makes it to the customer. I never count my chickens before they hatch. I’ve seen bad things happen within sight of their destination.
No pole car in PA huh? I think if you were 1” taller it’s required. If I remeber correctly. I definitely remeber letting some air out of tires on some loads to avoid getting a pole. Ahhhh the good ole days!! Love the vids!
Would you buy another truck with an Allison? Would you get a Western Star with a Detroit and Allison? Probably a better combo for fuel economy. The Cummins from my experience has extremely strong engine brake, compared to my experience with the Detroit engines. The Detroit sounds way better with the non-VGT turbo. Even with the fuel consumption difference, you’re not hauling cheap freight. I’d just want to be comfortable.
I would need to do some significant research on ways to make the Allison get better fuel economy before I bought one for myself. It’s just throwing the profits right out the exhaust pipe
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 ...yes, but these would need to be coasters, which could turn in any direction....only problem is, where do you put them when you've got to lower the trailer ;-)
Genuine question and if I sound like an idiot sorry, but why not take a section of the trailer out once you got to the crane yard, hook up to just the one section, then put the piece taken out on top and chain it down like in the beginning?
We could have done as you say. It just takes time. After the delivery we only had a one hour drive back to the terminal and the escort was going that way anyways so it just saved time to continue with the full length trailer.
Thanks for explaining about the chains. It makes complete sense after you explained it. I never would have guessed to do so before. You prolly see my company I work for all the time with the 11 axles. We do a lot more beam trailers I believe
It boggles my mind why Americans still use 1950's trailers while europe switched to modern stuff with stearing on all axels on the trailer - going around corners like nothing... some trails you can steer remotely from a following vehicle if the length is like 200 feet or more.
love seeing you navigate those turns at those lengths. Also love how you never rush and take your time even when you have to stop traffic to get out and adjust the trailer. I couldnt do that at a walk because I hate thinking im an inconvenience and thus want to run and rush. But thats how mistakes are made and i suppose do jobs like that, people just got to learn to wait so might as well take your time and do it right Looking forward to see the new rig!
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like to hold people up unnecessarily. But I’ve learned to focus on the job and block everyone else out. If I’m completely focused on what I need to do than we actually more faster then if I’m stressing about everyone else
Always love the countless times I've been up & down Fancy Gap Mountain. My old man would tell me about his truck driving in the old days before 77 was built or Jake brakes were a thing. Climbing that hill on the back roads with a screaming Detroit must have been an adventure. lol Love the videos - keep 'em coming.
Doug, I was going up Fancy Gap on day and saw a C130 cargo plane flying up the valley. It was cool looking down on a plane flying. Love your videos. Safe travels.
