Welcome to the TransSiP Power Integrity Series, where we delve into the world of power integrity as a component technology, focusing on our specialized product - Harmony Power Integrity Filter, also known as the Harmony PI Filter. This episode, ADI Silent Switcher LT8622S Noise Measurement Part 1, begins our exploration into ripple voltage measurements.
We start with the Tektronix TDS7154B oscilloscope, which has a bandwidth of 1.5GHz and a sample rate of 20GSa/s. We then compare these results with those from the Keysight Infiniium MXR B-Series oscilloscope, which has a higher bandwidth of 6GHz and a sample rate of 16GSa/s.
The MXR oscilloscope reveals a much larger 10mVp-p ripple voltage, compared to the 4mVp-p measured by the 1.5GHz bandwidth oscilloscope. This is due to the MXR’s ability to detect more frequency components from RF to microwave frequencies carried by the ripple voltage across a 6GHz bandwidth.
This leads us to a compelling conclusion: analyzing power supply noise from DC to microwave frequencies is vital for analyzing the power integrity (PI) of modern electronic systems.
But that’s not all. In Part 2 of this series, we continue our experiment with the ADI LT8622S Silent Switcher. You’ll see how TransSiP, with its Harmony PI Filter, is capable of transforming it into a noise-free switcher. The Harmony PI Filter is a key component in ensuring power integrity in modern electronic systems.
