The United States is one of the top suppliers for Cuba in a number of different areas. If you did some actual research, you'd know that. Cuba also gets about $2 billion + in remittances from people in the U.S. Lastly, if you're a communist country that criticizes the evils of capitalism, then why do they need to rely on capitalist countries to fuel your economy?

Well, I was born in Cuba and still have family there, and what those people told you is true. Sadly but true. 😪 For example, my cousin is a dentist but she has a modeling job and she earns more doing that than working as a dentist.

Actually, the government did not "decide they knew best", the people had a revolution, and REPLACED the old government. And depicting pre-communist Cuba as some paradise is completely disingenuous. It was paradise for tourists and foreigners, but the Cubans themselves were in terrible condition. I'm not saying socialist Cuba was some paradise either, it wasn't, but much of the reason it wasn't, is American aggression and embargoes.

The prior state was 1,000× better than the current state, even with a totalitarian dictator. Cuba was first in at least 25+ categorical advancements before 1959. After 1959, progress has literally stopped.

Just FYI for you ignorant folks, the people of Cuba decided nothing. There were no elections, no plebiscite, no democratic process whatsoever. Castro seized power in 1959 by way of a coup, which is exactly what the so-called Revolution was. The best that can be said for “the people” is that they allowed it to happen because they were simply stupid. The rest is propaganda. So get your facts straight. Without democracy the result is misery. Which explains why Cuba is and has been such a miserable place since 1959

Cuba has tons of doctors, the hospitals however are run down and often lack medical supplies if they can't make it locally as they can't afford to import nor have an industry that innovates new medicines. Interestingly the Cuban government often rents it's doctors to other countries to get badly needed money for it's state even if often the doctors find a way to not come back afterwards.

Global market is everything. If you don't want Haiti - theres Dominican Republic, Panama, Columbia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico; they have somewhat okay relationships with US - is it good there? @@itsBimmerman it’s an actual fact. The Cuban government controls salaries, making everyone get paid the same whether you’re a dr, teacher or taxi driver. The only reason people in the tourist serving industries get paid more (like taxi drivers) is because they sometimes get tips (A lot of which they don’t report to the Cuban gov).

1. There is no communism in Cuba, there is socialism. 2. The statement about ''equal payment'' in Cuba is a lie, because socialism provides different payment for different professions/different jobs. As example, in socialistic USSR there was app tenfold clearance between the lowest and the highest wages. It means, the kernel of the cartoon is a lie, so is the cartoon itself.

Adding to the doctors segment, there's also the phenomenon (called something "sink") where many choose not to come back home because the life in other countries are so much better. This kind of thing doesn't happen just in Cuba but any country with low quality of living.

Brain drain, you are talking about brain drain, where the smartest and most effective scientists, etc. Immigrate to places with better pay/ benefits/ economies because those countries offer them these things as exchange because the skills are openly marketable and essential workers, scientists etc. tend to have a better ability to leave thier country of orgin than most no matter where they are from. I am from south America, so I know that the countries that suffer more with poverty are the countries with leftists governments. In Venezuela, more than 90% of the population is poor, in Argentina its almost 70% and because Brazil borders these countries, we receive thousands of Venezuelans and argentinians trying to escape communism (in addition to the people of other countries in this situation... which means almost all of South America )

It doesn't matter whether it's true or false because any media meant to push a particular ideology over another is propaganda, and I don't see why a libertarian think tank would be doing anything other than pushing or conceiving of libertarian positions.

This is Ill informed. Cuba has better health outcomes than the United States. Not to mention in the United States doctors have one of the highest suicide rates as a profession, which is not the case in Cuba which has the 3rd highest amount of doctors per capita in the world.

The embargo is still there. The latest UN vote to remove the US embargo was 2 November 2023. 187 in favour, 2 against and 1 abstention. They will vote again this year because this vote has been mandatory by the UN since 1992.
