Definitely one of the more stressful situations I have found myself in since I started living in a van. But ultimately, it was not a big deal thanks to the kindness of a stranger.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why Forestry Forest carries two chainsaws. Putting a cushion on the windshield is a good idea.

Wow. If someone had told the bear-trees-trapped story over the water cooler at work I would not have believed it. Deepens my understanding of “be prepared” and beyond. Glad you’re on your way!

I remember you have a drill, could've drilled a bunch of holes on the side of the tree and then saw it or tow it after making a bunch of holes, or burn it down, so many ways to get out.
@channel9productions26
@channel9productions26 Год назад
GRÄNSFORS BRUK is a good Swedish axe company. If you want to stick with a saw, check out the Silky Katana. It's the biggest folding saw I know of and the Sillkys cut well. One word of advice, since your snow saw looked similar to a Silky, a lot of those folding saws are designed to cut on the pull stroke, not the push. You just want to glide it back through the cut on the push, then pull and cut. If you try to cut both directions, it'll bind and break the blade or the saw, as you witnessed.

Been in situations where I felt the same as you did. Can't wait to get the problem solved and get things back to normal. But like you said it pays to take a deep breath and approach the situation calmly. Always nice to find people that are willing to help.

Been enjoying keeping up with you adventures. Ryobi makes a pretty decent cordless chainsaw with batteries that can be used with the rest of their lineup. Hopefully you won't need it again but it's definitely a nice thing to have; makes quick work of cutting up wood for a fire too.

Good on you for thinking things through carefully. I think your attitude really did save the day. Take breaks and stay calm. Even talking to the camera as you sift through your options probably helped. Yes, an ax, or mini chainsaw ( electric?) are important things to have if you are going out in the bush alone. Am enjoying your videos. You remind me of my son. Happy trails.

nothing like that feeling ya get when ur in a situation like that i don't know why but about 10 years ago I rode my motorcycle up to prudhoe bay and traversed all over BC, Yukon, and AK I slept in a tent next to my bike along roads like the one you got stuck on and along a lot of rivers and creeks to this day I can't believe I wasn't eaten by a bear i always had a hatchet, knife, and bear spray on me... not that any of that would have helped had a bear wanted me

I love my light weight Fiskars splitting ax. My daily driver and trailhead car is a Subaru Outback. The ax lives in the rear cargo space. My Fiskars hatchett lives in the driver's door pocket. And my Silkey Pocket Boy folding saw lives in the second row door pocket. None of these tools are expensive, and they give me confidence for just the kind of situation you found yourself in. I just found your channel due to the Foresty Forest crossover. I've been up and down the Alcan several times, the first being in 1970 when it was still dirt. The Dempster is on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing your trip!

If you haven't got an axe yet, grab a Fiskars. Yes, the scissors company. Their axes are made in Norway and while not ergonomic, will totally cover your needs while being light and fairly bombproof. Estwings are still forged in the USA and completely indestructible, but also heavy. Either one will cost less than $50 and can be found at a good hardware store (shoutout to Alaska Industrial Hardware in Anchorage). DON'T by ANY MEANS listen to the snobs and overlanders who say you need a Gransfors Bruks or some other Swedish collectible, they're very nice but $400 is more than you need to spend- especially for an emergency tool!

Man, you show the real stuff, i have been camping on a tent driving a honda c100 ( newer version of honda c90) here in brazil ( leaking oil on headgasket, blown off rear shocks, smoking engine...), but i did 520km in a day like that, i have a LADA (russian car 4x4) Vaz 2121 that is a legitimate walking dead (leaky radiator, direct wired to start, lots of "play" in every mechanical part, rusted to hell...) and i camp on it on our low altitude mountains, i also lived 6 months in new Zealand, got a diesel Toyota Hiace that had 480.000 + miles on it for 1500 NZD, the owner said "it burns a little oil" LOL that thing was a oil pit, but run and get me to the places..... so i know that you show the real thing, we get stuck , things break down, it isn't the heaven people portrait, but i is so much better than be someone under the boots of your boss... ( sorry for my brute English i learned from the dictionary)... keep going, you may feel lonely as i saw in other videos, but that's alright, you will met someone good at the right time. carry an axe plz ( dont go with fiber handle, it is shlt) hahaha a full steel body pruning saw and a 1kg Sledgehammer (bang it on the head of your axe and make less effort to cut) , it will make you life easy. hope you be safe. bye.

Max, It is not fun when I try to buy you a Fiskars axe and I can only send $2 for coffee. Swedish axes are awesome for building a cabin, but you will not wear out the Fiskars and if you have a file or sandpaper or rock to sharpen it you will be pleased. Michael
