Ended up not keeping this guy. Checked him over and released him. Looking for a nice female.

It always cracks me up that these tame bred mice have absolutely no clue that they should be in fear for their lives with a hawk inches from them.

yes sometimes those mice will have a hawk sitting right on top of the cage and the mice will be sniffing their talons.

@@RedTalesFalconry It just strikes me as odd these rodents have no natural fear of birds of prey. I have a bearded dragon that has never seen birds, and the first time he did, he ran full speed to get under the house. if not for the leash, he would have been gone. Now he sits in windows, but every time he sees a bird, he runs for cover. He was captive bred, yet still has this ingrained fear where captive bred rodents like you have do not. That's what makes me good in the technical field. I never just accept, I always ask "why".

That is awesome, congrats! Definitely nothing like your first time. Did you get a male or female?

Hopefully I’ll be trapping my second Red Tail today. I’m a 36 year career firefighter that’s had to work countless hours OT this past year, I just haven’t had the time to do any trapping, until now.

I am trapping them to hunt with them. I'm a falconer and so in the USA with all appropriate permits, you can trap certain birds to then train and hunt with.

Have you ever trapped using wild mice? Do you feel it helps at all?

I’ve never tried but haven’t had a problem trapping with the white mice at all. They are cheap and easy to get.
