I’ve posted comments similar to this on hunting forums. As a keen birdwatcher who has travelled the globe in search of birds, I just need to say these guys who trap pest species (and only pest species) do more for songbird survival than many.
@@haroldinho9930 yea what a joke , landed classes n farmers ripped out most hedgerows n ancient meadow n ancient woodland long been destroyed , arrogant control freaks
Corvids are not a pest species. I have thousands of them where I live yet still see hundreds of lapwing, blackbirds, mistlethrush, fieldfare the list goes on. They are only a problem when they kill lambs (which is a rare occurrence anyway and can easily be avoided by lambing indoors) and eat crops (again can easily be avoided by using bird scarers in crop fields). Most people that are against these traps are people who actually live in the countryside and actually deal with some of these “pest” species. It’s ridiculous when people blame the reduction of farmland birds on corvids, when it’s been proven time and again that large populations of corvids have a minimal impact on bird populations.
@@theotheseaeagle do you farm? Just wondering if you understand the logistics of sheep farming. Many farmers are simply not able to afford to lamb inside. Corvids are pests end of story.
It is the same here in the States, people complain "why do you trap coyotes ?, it's cruel".....until a coyote takes their poodle off their back porch, then it's kill them, kill them all.......people are so stupid......just saying......
The people don’t understand that by trapping these birds (which have a vast population) is saving the red listed birds. Eg. I have a Larsen trap out and my neighbours complain saying that we shouldn’t have it as it is cruel but then also complain when the eggs in the nests of smaller birds are destroyed.
I don’t see how bludgeoning rare birds of prey to death and killing native corvid species on mass is helping red listed species. If you actually want to help wildlife focus on killing species that are actually having negative impacts like introduced grey squirrels and American mink which have decimated most ground nesting birds populations
Hey not all townies mate ,Kim a townie but love my lamping ,ferreting, air gun shooting and have plenty of permission, sadly in the majority your right ,but dont tar us all with same brush. 👍
''I like the comment 'snares and traps to catch 'innocent' animals''....are there guilty animals out there? maybe there' a subclass of deviant criminal animals now
@@tiernanwearen9499 oh right, i will look it to it. I thought it was still in process. So now trespassing is a criminal offence and nota civil one. If this is true or is going to finally happen, its fantastic news because Antis are now making big marks on shoot days
I am an avid wildlife respecter, a clay pigeon shooter and an Airguner but I do know and understand that certain pests "Crows, Jackdaws, Pigeon, Magpie's, Squirrels etc" have to be controlled. Why? Because people over the years, including gamekeepers have screwed up the balance of nature, i.e. taken away the predators, Raptors etc. There are always going to be the people who do not understand but this has to be taken into account, even though I do understand what has to be done I as well don't like the idea of traps, I do believe that any life has to be taken humanely. Is it not possible that gamekeepers think of a solution that "looks" better to the people that do not understand without the use of traps and looking like they have no compassion? A change of thinking on the Gamekeepers part will have a better effect on the people who don't understand and get more people on board to what needs to be done?? Without control other things will greatly suffer but do it in a way to make it more acceptable. Just my thoughts, right or wrong.
I want to believe keepers and shooters and their law abiding methods. But my neighbour is a fanatical countrymen/shooter who openly tells of his hatred of all things out in the wild except partridge and pheasants. I won`t let my children alone with him just in case they develop this same hatred.
If you love wildlife, don’t exterminate predators just because they don’t fit your idealistic monoculture of one species. I have hundreds of rooks, jackdaws, crows even the occasional raven and other corvids in my area and I still see large amounts of lapwing and other ground nesting birds. Ironically these gamekeepers and so called “guardians of the countryside” do more harm then good. The non-native common pheasants gamekeepers release into the countryside for shooting purposes have almost completely outcompeted the native grey partridge. Also ironic how gamekeepers have a long history of completely eradicating animals from our shores. What happened to our goshawks, kites, WTE and very nearly our sparrowhawks? You guessed it, gamekeepers killed them!
As you can see in my pic. I shoot animals. Mainly Rats & Pest birds but also foxes that take lambs. Rabbits for another farm. From air rifle to 12 bore
Why is this channel becoming so political? I get its a bit good for views because of the intrinsic clickbait nature of it. But I'm not sure how much good it does.
Hi - thanks for this. The main reason is that we are in danger of losing the media argument over hunting/shooting sports in the UK. We have the expertise to try and win it back. I'm glad to say that many of the viewers agree and are backing us. / Charlie
@@fieldsportstv hmm fair enough Charlie. And thanks for the reply. I'm not convinced myself. Pretty tough to get political these days without playing into a reductionist them vs us narrative. I see alot of viewers on this channel coming out with the same insane rhetoric we see all over the Internet these days.
@@13lochie Off topic here, but I was abused today for wearing my ' black rifle coffee company ' t-shirt, I was accused of supporting shooting black people....this is the sort of society we now have to put up with.
@@draigygoch But this all cuts two ways. Not just two ways but an infinite number of ways. People want to make out like this is a left vs right thing. Politics particularly in the UK is simply not that simple. I'm a member of the Lib dems and former member of labor. I hunt. I own guns. I agree with the general outlook of the field sports channel and passionately agree with some of the policies I'm complaining about them advocating for. Why? Because I see literally no reason why wanting better social services has anything to do with hunting or firearms laws. Yet you look online and apparently because I really dislike the tories and oppose Conservative politics I must also be some pussy who thinks there's a billion genders and that hunting is just pure evil. I must also hate white people etc. This is rediculous. Genuinely rediculous. It's the same thing that happened to you today with your t shirt. We have communally created these ogres. And I just don't see them replicated in real life nearly as often as you'd expect given the online discourse. And this is why I don't like this channel getting political. This devisiveness would have merit if it wasn't largely bullshit. The big divide I see when it comes to these hunting affairs isn't actually between political ideologies it's a rural and urban divide. I literally live opposite a pair of gay lifelong tory voters who would happily sabotage hunts. They run a pub which had a fox hunt go to it for over 150 years and turfed them out first thing. Despite the huge loss of income. They, like me, shouldn't exist according to this massively reductionist online conversation which it seems we've imported from our cousins on the other side of the Atlantic. I dunno sorry for the rant. But this state of affairs in which everyone is hyper political while simoultaneously having bad faith arguments that pertain not one bit to reality is crazy making. In my whole life I've only met one of these 'sjw' types who think gender is a construct. But you look online and apparently such people are so commonplace as to not only comprise 50% of the electorate. But are also an actual threat to democracy instead of in my estimation just being a tiny yet vocal group of naive chumps who will have to grow up one day whether they want to or not. Anyway sorry again for the rant.
These unenlightened servants, poor souls obeying theyr upper class masters orders , I used to know a gamekeeper who was actually quite a moderate man but he told me of a lot of gamekeepers who r worse than the foxes badgers crows woodcock hawks etc etc that they mercilessly enjoy tormenting , psychopathic robots who know zilch about nature & the delicate interactive associations how everything on this severely unwell damaged planet is here for a reason , sadly land & the obsessive control freakery is all these folk care about , I'd like to see these people in the cages & snares , cruel uncaring heartless thugs ....
