Listen to in too deep or still waiting by sum 41. This is absolutely my favorite band. Saw them this past Sunday and they are crazy live! The energy is so hyped.
I saw them at their Raleigh NC show in April and my gawd what a show. The crowd was fucking amazing. I've been to a few dozen concerts, but this was the most fun I've ever had at a show...and I went solo hahaha
I just saw them last week at their KC show. Deryck puts on a SHOW, man. Simple Plan bored the piss outta me, so we left in the middle of their set. Nothing compared to Sum 41.
@@camilleanderson2939 I saw The Offspring the week after I saw Sum 41 and the Offspring bored the piss outta me! The crowd was absolutely lifeless and Dexter/Noodles (it was really hust the Dexter and Noodles show) were clearly very bored and just going through the motions. Huge disappointment.
Being in Buffalo growing up there is always a connection to Canadian bands. Most of our radio stations are actually from Ontario. I remember hearing Sum 41, Our Lady Peace etc way before people I knew in other places in the US.
Yes! This song is a banger! They're a sick band. Any song by them is great. They can do Punk, Metal, ballads, even some Rap like here. They're usually associated with Pop Punk but they do much more than that
@@illPAPA_dill YES! I love that song too! Not saying they didn't do it before, but on that song is where they full on tried to experiment with Metal. It has a very Trash vibe
Good description, I know nothing about the rest of their songs but i do know this specific song is a pop punk classic. And it's very clearly a pop punk song too all the elements are there. As a rap fan I love their rap style and I can tell the beastie boys and run dmc (Queens gets the money!) Influence they have. I'm gonna have to check out more of their discography.
We need more rock like this: Sum 41- in too deep Yellow card-only one Simple plan - summer love Avril -skater boy Taking back Sunday-make damn sure Good charlotte - anthem Sugar cult - bouncin off the wallls
This song was definitely one of the greatest hits in the late 90's/early 00's. It was the punkrock era. Anyone over 25 and under 45 probably heard this somewhere at some point in their life indeed.
24* 😂😂 but yea, I grew up on this because of my brother!! First pop punk song I ever heard was Grand Theft Autumn-Fall Out Boy back in 2003, I was only 5! I’ve been in love with the genre and is related genres and subculture ever since
that's good to hear. saw them way back in 2003(i think) and the set was delayed almost an hour while they were backstage drinking. Mom was pissed I got home so late, haha. Always been a big fan, glad they are still doing shows.
@@Gamerfreakhill85Huh? Millennials are like 81-96. Has nothing to do with being born in 00’. Anyone before that was Generation X. I think you’re confused as to what a “generation” is.
One thing I love about growing as an adult is how wide our music tastes grow. As a youngster it’s hard to avoid the societal expectations of what you “should” listen to compared to what you “want” to listen to. And this can contribute to a very narrow, tunnel like vision when it comes to music, completely focusing on one genre really and not even trying any others. Anyways, love when people find new things they never listened to before and realize they really enjoy it.
This was so much fun. Sum 41 was my favorite band when I was younger. I’m voting for more Sum 41 reactions. Still waiting, Pieces, never there, hell song, we’re all to blame, no reason, and I’m gonna stop myself, cause I could go on forever 😂
The story of the video is great. Totally un-promoted, they set up in an empty lot next to a liquor store in Pomona, California, and started playing the song over-and-over again. They had a video recording crew capturing whatever happened. None of the spectators were invited, and nothing they did was planned. They are just the odd mix of people who gradually showed up in a viral way. No doubt some of the goofy weirdness relates to them playing just the one song over-and-over again all without any explanation to the crowd that gathered to party. The video was then edited from all the video that had been captured.
It's California?! All this time I thought is was Ajax, Ontario and trying to figure out how it has a totally different vibe than the rest of Greater Toronto Area
@@whitewave09 Since they are a Canadian band & I'm Canadian too I had assumed it probably was in Canada. I went to google to find out where thinking it would be Mississauga or somewhere like that. I was also surprised to learn it was filmed in California.
@@rossmacintosh5652 Yes, they shot my friend with a water gun while he was walking home in Ajax (in one of their earliest videos) I don't think I really grasped they were big outside of Canada.
what i love about Layedbaks rock/metal reactions is that he actually pays attention to the instrumentals as well. a lot of people focus solely on vocals and miss out on a lot of good riffs and melodies
Its KINDA hard not to love it. 😎 I KINDA don't wanna admit that... But its the truth! 🤣💯 This came YEARS after I was a teenager in the punk rock scene... but THAT'S pretty much the SCENE I remember!!! 💯
I remember hearing this growing up and now, listening back with a little context. Hearing all the influences, it's like a fingerprint almost, the rhythm and cadence. The audible timestamp of an era...
Arguably one of the top 3 pop punk bands of all time IMO. Still going strong today and have an album due this year! Love them so much. Seeing them at the start of June & can't wait.
American pie days! My high school years. Late 90’s earl 00’s Blink 182, fat lip, bowling for soup, good charlotte! Skater movement days. Boarding was at its highest point. Everyone was skateboarding and playing Tony hawk on PS2
They are really one of the pinnacles of pop punk. Second to only Blink 182 and by a small margin. Also, all their videos are so damn fun. And the songwriting and genre mixing….. so good.
I think when we're young we aren't open minded enough to try new things or listen to different music. But when we get older we are more open to explore new things and sounds. It's cool to see you experience this genre of music now! Thank you!
When ever this song would come on at parties back in the day the whole house would turn up to a whole different level. Literal crowd surfing in livingrooms kinda shit.
I already knew I was gonna love this reaction! My dude, here, he keeps it real. If it's good he lets you know, and if it sucks he says that shit is TRASH!!!! My boy here, he's amazing. LOVE THESE REACTIONS VIDEOS!!!!
they don't rap , just a fan of rap like every punk rock back in the day , next reaction should be the song " makes no difference '´ with dmx and rock is what we're all about
I remember the video had the homage to Maiden and Priest song "Pain for Pleasure" at the end of "Fat Lip" it's only like a short track like 1:30 long but sounds very Maiden/Priest
fun fact they got their name Sum 41 because they were in a contest during a summer event where they were trying to put a band together. so different people tried out and in the end these four here won and it ended up on the fourty first day of summer thus Sum 41 was born
Sum 41 is one of those bands that people associate with the pop-punk explosion of the early 2000s because of their debut album and big hit(s), but are actually much more talented and versatile than a lot of people give them credit for. Many rock artist of the era grew softer as time went on, but Sum 41 was one of the few that actually grew heavier as their career went on. EVERYONE knows Fat Lip and their other big early hit, In Too Deep. They're two of the biggest songs of the pop-punk boom. For a lot of people the story ends there, but I live in Canada, where they were MUCH more relevant for a MUCH longer period of time. So I HIGHLY recommend checking out their stuff from after their debut, most of it really does hold up.
If anyone ever asks what the early 2000s were like for your average bored lower to lower middle class kids show them this video. This one always takes me right back to some of the best days, i will always crank this one
real talk this video during the early 00's was so massive. this was the pop punk kid anthem and capitalized on that big boom of teenage movies like american pie, not another teen movie, etc. It just captured all that energy in one song/video and it EXPLODED.
I miss those parties. I knew lots of guys that played music in school. Lots of lot parties. Their other song 'Hell Song' is fire too. You could say every major star is in it.
You might like Hell Song by them. They started as a band near where I live now when they were like 13 or 14 years old. A decent pop-punk band that had a pretty solid run in the late 90s to early 2000s
As a kid I never really appreciated how different this sounds y'know. Sure there's the pop punk Green Day style stuff in there but there's also that metal influence that they mention and a WHOLE bunch of Beastie Boys in there too and it's actually such a cool blend of stuff.
Sum 41 and other bands who were like them, were EVERYWHERE in the late 90's and early 2000's, especially on the soundtracks of coming of age teen movies so yeah, even if you haven't heard them before you probably know the chorus and the sound.
3:20 i can see you are slowly get the idea about what this band is all about, back in the day, people said they wack and such. But they’re just one of multi-genre pioneer with the heavy sounds as their base genre.
Sum 41 started out as what we would call "pop punk" and made a slight detour into metal. they bounce back and forth between the 2. I can't remember where the rap came from but I've even seen them do this live, and it was amazing.
Fat Lip and What We’re All About are peak Sum 41. As good as the rest of their stuff is and the range of sounds they’ve tackled, I wish they had done more like that.
To me, the greatest pop punk band ( even if they are more Thant that ) with Blink-182 I'm going to see them again for the second time in October, here in Italy
Doesn't matter how late you are. All that matters is that your here now and see enjoying it. I'm not going to lie there was only maybe less than a handful of rap artists I could handle listening to back in the day but now I feel like rap is all I listen to lol
I saw the intro this song the other day too when listening to it and I was like man that's a trip. This is the second time seeing the intro and being able to listen to them rap and In my head I just never even noticed. These guys had production on a whole nother level.
These type of songs they played a lot in American Pie movies. This one specifically in American Pie 2. Also in other raunchy comedies during the early 2000's.
I knew Derek in high school in Ajax, Ontario. These guys made it pretty big in the early 2000s. I think this track may have been on the American Pie soundtrack. Or maybe it was another. I can't remember. I'm as old as Derek. 😆
