My line of works occasionally lands me some interesting stuff being thrown out. Lets see if I can repair this WD1 soldering station that was seemingly abused to death.
Remember to follow me on Twitter at @CelGenStudios to keep up to date on what I am doing and what might be happening in the next video.

The age old electricians problem To repair a soldering iron requires a soldering iron. Nicely done.

I have seen Dave Jones video also. We really should make an auto feed soldering iron! ;)

Thank you for the info. I dropped my wand on my WE1010 and it landed tip first on the concrete garage floor an it broke the wires inside the wand. I ordered a new wand and the station wouldn't turn on. It has the same fuse that showed on your video. I'm betting that is the same issue with mine.

i dont find "whatever works for you" condesending cause tastes differ a lot, some people can't work without tiny finger to tip distance (im one of them) while others will use the old style chinese irons which have huge finger to tip distance and love it

I have a weller tc201t iron for a wtcpt and the station is working but the spring loaded magnastat switch assembly heater that goes inside the ec234 element seems to be broken. Any way to salvage these or get a replacement? Factory date is 1994.

I would honestly upgrade to something with a little more control. I still recommend the WESD51, especially if you can get a cheap one used.

@@CelGenStudios I ended up fixing it. The heater had some light rust under the contacts. Just used some sandpaper. And I did pick up a wesd51 with the lcd So Ill be using that now.

They probably knew how to change the fuse but they had no way to solder a new fuse in with a broken station

Any time i find a nice weller soldering station it usually needs a new tip from a discontinued range(at 60-120USD each) so its not worth saving.

Interesting little iron you've got there. I purchased a WP65 with very small tip, but did not know there has been an even smaller iron... I felt so defeated when I could not repair my WD1 that got to suffer from a missing digit in the LCD shortly after purchase as a second hand unit... Tried everything, even replaced the PCF-whatever chip on the LCD board, reworked all LCD-pins, heated the LCD connections while on (to see if this was an temperature-dependent intermittent problem) but it just never got back to life. The price for just a replacement of the LCD board alone was just not worth it at 200 Euro excl. VAT (with the total price incl. shipping ending up at around 275 Euro, which was about the price I paid for the set (WD 1 + WSP80 and multiple tips). Eventually found a rather botched (and most of all: cheap) unit on ebay. That was a 110 Volt unit but as my transformer was still good, I just swapped the upper part (upper case with buttons and LCD board) with my own unit. Can't remember what I did with the remains of the other unit. I wouldn't be too surprised if I still have them somewhere but I don't even know about that myself anymore (something with too much electronic junk...)
