Dan. the black loco will run great on Trix Twin fibre track. the rails are deep and track is not too expensive. it is however bare steel so will need a good clean up. Tri-ang produced these models in competition with Trix-Twin, which was a 14v system later changed to 6 & 12V. Bakelite and fibre track is available. I use it for my collection. Best wishes Steve

I believe the letter S means the locomotive can be fitted with a smoke unit,I have been known to be wrong, so someone might come up with another suggestion.

Tri-Ang used to advise that the magnets should always be touching metal. If you have to remove the magnet from the frame it should be placed onto another bit of metal until it can be returned to the frame. I have several loco's I have owned since the 1960's and all still have strong magnets without being remagnetized.

Dan, Well done for the refurb. I was impressed that you are nearly the only one who has picked up on the varying wheel flange size issues on these early Triang Steam locos. What would be really good would be investigating ways to overcome the flange size issues, can they be easily replaced with modern wheel sets, or does this involve also swapping axles, bearings bushings etc? Or can they be turned down or ground smaller ( are they hardened steel?) Any chance of getting this on in an investagative video and beath the other not so savvy. Modlers out there who havnt been able to work out why their locos are "jittery" on the track, thinking its just afurther cleaning / overhaul issue?? Best regards, Art.

The black one is a newer loco with an older tender. The old ones had body fixing screws through the chimney.

Hi Dan. Great vlog. Know exactly what you mean. Got a old but excellent princess Elizabeth. Only problem it does not like modern points, sends a charge down the dead side so what ever loco you have down the sidings gives a little jerk as the princess goes over.

The gouge on the armature is often seen on dc motors. It's for balancing.

The S number on the chassis is a Triang, later Hornby replacement reference. Unlike today, Triang did supply a myriad of spares and had an extensive authorised repair and service network around the country and across the world.
