Found this snapper on the side of the road for free. Turned out to have no compression. So I took some parts from the snapper and put it on a craftsman I found at the side of the road. Then I made one good lawnmower out of two bad ones.
Very nice fair well song for the Saber. I really enjoy your videos. Don't let the Saber get you depressed. Not worth it. Get rid of it....get rid of the memories. Get an Exmark.....you deserve it. Great videos.
Good job repairing that Craftsman mower, it's a shame about the Snapper but someone obviously didn't take care of it so the engine went to crap. I recognized the tune you were playing on your guitar at the end, it was Dust in the Wind, love that song.
THe only bad part is Briggs has the muffler o0n the off side and the Kawa has it's next to the chute for bagging. I just put a copper 90 degree elbow, at least an inch i/d on the heat shield and that took care of the exhaust enough but on a HOT day it might vapor lock but starts fine when cooled a little. I'm still thinking about taking aluminum flashing and making a heat deflector away from the carb so it'll all go out the chute side. Other that that, It's flawless, has the Hi-Vac kit and bags perfectly, even in mostly wet grass.
An engine from a Brigg 3 1/2 H P. won't necessarily fit on a frame of another Brigg 3 1/2. The bolt circle isn't the same. You can take the oil pan from one and put it on the other. But the cables might not be interchangeable. Why Brigg does that, I don't know. The starter cover might not be the original from that engine. Keep the good mowers if you do yard work.
If I were you I’d modify the engine mount on the snapper mower to fit the engine from the craftsman mower. The snapper is overall better. Solid front axle and it looked like it was rwd self propelled correct me if I’m wrong
I wish that you could keep the Sabre but I know a super simple way to get it unseized and it takes very little time First remove the head Spray the piston and cylinder with wd30 Lastly get a old socket Put the socket in the middle of the piston and hit the socket with a hammer once unseized put it back together. How I found this out is that and old engine was seized and it only took a minute to unseize the piston
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 ya but seriously dude you got to keep the Sabre it’s a great mower just get an engine your capable you can do an engine swap.
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 ok I Highly recommend a Cub Cudet Trust me they are great zero turns for not as expensive as those fancy ones and if you need advise repairing it I’m your guy.
Nope, I let a friend borrow it and he said it overheated in long grass. I went out to start it and it went "ping" then seized up. I'll forgive him but definitely not happy about it.
Always remember there is usually a reason that people who borrow things don't have anything of their own anymore. They have already ruined their stuff and are ready to start on yours.
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 try taking the spark plugs out and soaking the crap out of the cylinders with pb. i have also heard of the flywheel binding up on the stator underneath it. just some ideas. i would think it would lockup when it overheated but if it was cool when u tried starting it. thats just odd. personally i would look into what caused it to do it. those vanguard briggs are great. check out this video. sounds like what you are dealing with ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VlnbdpEd1L4.html&ab_channel=LynolsOffice
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 I would give a little extra for the JD have delivery was possible but if not I don’t really have a way to get it so I would pass
Life seems to be short, violent and tragic for lawn care equipment up north. I've never actually had a mower engine seize up. Oh well. JD Sabres are for people who only want to pay for the name anyway. I think JD is overrated anyway after seeing all the broken plastic. IF I ever buy a decent lawn tractor it will be a Kubota. I'm glad you can sell used mowers but I found my profit margin on pushers is too thin to bother with them any longer.
Yes, its a hard life! JD is certainly overrated, its all about the engines in them. And this one was a good one, it just overheated. Kubota is excellent, I work for a couple families changing the oil, filters, and fluids on their kubotas. I just charge $60 per visit, its a quick way to make money. The profit is definately small on push mowers, I just do it for the fun and the youtube $$
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 ah thats too bad... that sabre is in good shape. i would just look for a tractor with a bad trans and swap the motor. tons of them on craigslist. if you lived in western pa i have 3 good briggs 14hp's
