Realistically, this stuff all happens concurrently. So if you're trauma patient has no pulse, you'll start chest compressions while getting intubation equipment ready. While monitors are placed on the patient you'll notice a shockable rhythm and so defibrillate before the endotracheal tube is placed. Was that clear? Let me know, if not.

Good question, adlimd. Remember you use CAB whenever you suspect a cardiac origin for an arrest. 54y goes down in the mall? Use CAB. 34y pulled out of a lake? Probably respiratory arrest, so use ABC. Car crash? Use ABC. Now, I'll confuse you. Perhaps the drowning victim or car crash was prompted by an initial cardiac event. Maybe the patient had a heart attack at the wheel. (see next comment)
