Thank you, George, for this trip back to the 1970's! I was in high school when I first saw this program. I didn't know there was a German language version. I saw a little bit of this documentary once or twice through the years but this is the first time I've had the pleasure of see the program in its entirety. Some beautiful footage of the QE2 inside and out. I think the liner looked her best with the original lido/sun decks shown here and when she had the tall windows on her forward superstructure though that part of the liner had been changed by the time this program was made. It was even more enjoyable to watch this as there was film of other liners. I enjoyed seeing the Vaterland/Leviathan with which we both have a connection. I noticed in the aerial footage from the 1920's or 30's showing the liners docked in New York that one of the Santa-class liners of the Grace Line is docked with her bow pointing outward as is done with the ships in Italy. I wonder what the reason was for docking the ship that way in the United States though I suspect that will remain a mystery! The Queen Elizabeth 2 had many changes in her inward and outward appearance; she was adapted to her times and circumstances and so, even when times were bad for liners, the QE2 had a very long, acclaimed career.
All those memories, and the energy is where the emotions are. Thats what people feel sad about, when they attach themselves to an object that has character of so many people?! The queen Marys is full of past and present energy. I have stayed aboard a few times in long beach and I loved the ole girl ! Packed with all that Artdeco just beautiful and cosy and full of grace and the most wonderful warm, cosy vibes!
