So many things people dont understand about Brazil: The first Brazilian Empress , Leopoldina, was born in Austria. Since her arrival Brazil started to see a surge in Austrian immigration. Then the second empress was Italian, then Italian immigration started.

The second empress was French (from a mother of Austrian origins), despite being born in Milan. Her father was French and was the son of Josephine, former empress of France and the first wife of Napoleon. I find it interesting that coincidentally, Pedro's first wife was the sister of Napoleon second wife, and his second wife was the grandaughter of the first wife of Napoleon.

Estive em Petrópolis em dezembro de 1989, num passeio que a escola promovia para os formandos do ensino fundamental, na época chamado de Ginásio (oitava série). Fomos também em Paraty e no Rio. Inesquecível. Bom rever esses lugares ainda bem preservados. Saudações de Santa Catarina, Sul do Brasil.

Exacto. E foi também caso único quando o filho do rei português declarou a independência do Brasil e se tornou o imperador do Brasil. Depois acabou expulso do Brasil e nasceu a República. A história de Portugal e do Brasil são muito ricas, podia e devia ser feito um grande filme. Épico.

O estilo português foi uma das Arquiteturas q mais me impressionou nas viagens p Europa. Petrópolis a cidade de Pedro. Teresópolis era da esposa Tereza. I did that same tour in a school trip wehn I was younger. We went to the royal palace, the Quitandinha Hotel and we even ate at the same restaurant!!Thank you for bringing me back those memories. I love Petropolis the weather there is always like that foggy and a lot colder than Rio that's why the emperor's family chose the place. Awesome drone takeso. And about Santos Dumont: it's a fact he was the first one to build an airplane that took off by itself, the one that the Wright bothers made needed to be slinghshoted so it could soar 🤷🏿‍♂️

My mother used to take us to Palacio Quitandinha when I was small. We spent many weekends there before we moved to the U.S.. I remember they had an indoor swimming pool there also. I remember that at the Royal Palace you had to take your shoes off before going in. Petropolis is a quaint little town and the road there from Rio is very picturesque with great views since you are driving up hilly terrain. Thank you for the memories.

Infelizmente mts pessoas acham que o Rio se limita a Pão de Açucar, Cristo e as praias, sempre deixam Petrópolis ''passar batido'' pelo fato de ser mais afastado da capital, o governo do Rio deveria incentivar mais a ida de turistas à Petrópolis, é um lugar excepcional, sempre vou lá quando tenho a oportunidade, desde a época em que eu estudava e ia nos passeios da escola para lá.

Petrópolis was founded as a German colony, that's why the city looks so European. Since Petrópolis is my hometown, I'm used to all the buildings, culture and imperial history. I love this city.

don't say nonsense......this city was built by the monarchy....if the republicans could have already done what they did in the rest of Brazil, which would be to destroy everything......if you want to see more of this architecture ?... only research on RU-vid, what Brazil was like before the Republic....there are videos and photos on RU-vid.....the republicans ended Brazil and in 200 years they created more than 6,000 favelas

It actually looks like Brazil, because it is part of our culture. A huge and not homogeneous culture as the media makes it seem. This type of German, Swiss and northern Italian architecture is very common in cities in the Southeast / South of Brazil. gringos come meet 🍷🍕🍇🌲

Beautiful little city _ The drone shots really put it in perspective with all the hills and homes _ There must be shops and grocery stores around too _ Prices for eating out were very reasonable _ Wonder what a modest home would cost, thnx guys . . . :>/

It varies a lot depending on the neighborhood you choose to buy, but something in between 40-50k dollars for a small 2 bedroom apartment and 2-3 million dollars for the old colonial homes and the close gate communities mansions

Santos Dummont was different because he flew in public in the middle of Paris and his plane lifted off the ground without momentum as happened with the Wrigth brothers' plane

The Wright brothers was more of a glider with a catapult. Santos dumonts flew on its own with a motor like an actual plane. From what I read that’s how it went down.

Corrigindo ai, o correto é Família Imperial Brasileira, que surge a partir da independência com Dom Pedro I como imperador do Brasil em 1822. A família real portuguesa chegou em 1808 e estabeleceu no Rio de Janeiro com Dom João VI e Carlota Joaquina, pais de Dom Pedro e Dom Miguel.

The only difference is that the first Emperor of Brazil Dom Pedro I and the first Empress Leopoldina Habsburg were European (He was Portuguese and she was Austrian), and their son, the second Emperor Dom Pedro II, was born in Brazil. So some people keep saying things like "The Brazilian Imperial Family" referring only to Dom Pedro II and his Italian wife Teresa Cristina and the "Portuguese Royal Family" referring to Dom Pedro I and the Empress Leopoldina Habsburg, as if they were two different families when in fact they're all the same.

Sou de Petrópolis e gostei muito do vídeo. Os prédios são de arquitetura europeia pois Petrópolis foi colonizada por europeus, em sua maioria alemães. I am proud to have been born in this wonderful city that is Petrópolis. Here, in addition to the tourist center, we also have many parties, such as the Imperial Christmas, Bauernfest, Itaipava Exhibition, Serra Serata and much more. Imperial Christmas is when the city and the buses are all decorated in Christmas style. Bauernfest, among them the most traditional, is a German festival that we have to celebrate the German colonizers and not let the culture they left behind die. The Exhibition is when the Toy Park is set up at the Park in Itaipava, and there are shows, food stalls and so on. Serra Serata is a cultural festival like Bauer, but it was made to celebrate Italian culture. In addition, we have many waterfalls and trails, including the Serra dos Órgãos National Park, the set of trails in Araras, and the Brejal ecological route.
