They’re brilliant! Had mine for 5 months now and I’ve used it heaps. Extremely beneficial if you’ve agm batteries as the Travel Buddy won’t even get warm without the step up converter (with the engine off).

Great clip Stephen… yes I have 3 with my set up. 1 mounted on the floor of the passenger seat with the Kap.Industries bracket, 1 in the Rear canopy and 1 in the Camper trailer. Never underestimate the electrical components in the vehicle installed by 3 parties. Could never forgive myself if I wasn’t able to help someone in need and I didn’t have the gear ready to safe myself. 9 out of 10 u will help someone else first. 👍 I will be getting one of these converters. Thank you mate

Without a doubt, these little ovens are grouse, which ever brand you buy, and this upgrade is a good improvement for sure.

Glad I've seen this. I brought the Small Travel Buddy last week, mounted it into my shelving of My Canopy Thursday, but haven't got as far as permanently wiring it up as yet, I also purchased a Lithium Battery emailers this evening, and after watching this a DC Step-up Converter also, so once the Lithium Battery arrives, I'll install the Battery and adjust my wiring loom and permanently hook up the Travel Buddy via the DC Step-up Converter under my Canopy.

Thanks for your video it explains it all. Yesterday I cooked a roast beef in my classic travel oven. It normally takes 6 hours to cook. However, I used the step up converter for the first time yesterday and cooked the beef for six hours, unfortunately the outside shell of the beef was very hard and overlooked. I normally put the beef in an oven bag. So next time I will cook the beef for 4.5 hours. So as you said the step up converter is worth having.

Great video Steve. I had heard of these voltage converters, but never looked into them. Very interesting to know just how much of a difference that made. Also you reminded me I must buy a fire extinguisher for our camper. Cheers and thanks.

They are a great addition Steve. I put one on my travel buddy after seeing another review about a year ago. Definitely makes a difference. Lithium upgrade next.👍

Hi Steve…..that looks like a good quality product…..they’ve taken a lot of care with their wiring on that converter….. Better than any I’ve seen before….. And on a separate note……I’ve noticed the top corner of your door seal has dropped….this’ll flood the back of your car first rainfall……or even car wash…..

best location is under drivers seat on bracket and under passenger seat. If you are trapped by your legs in drivers seat you can access and use fire extinguisher. Same for your passenger. SWM have a step up/step down DC converter too. Same same, great addition to TB.

I did some testing today on my new Rough Country travel oven. I found the element was about 1.6ohms using a four-wire resistance test (no wire leads or fuse included), and using the figures from the 60V/100A power meter is was about 1.7ohms (including wiring, fuse and the power meter itself). I ran with a 135Ah battery only, which dropped to around 12.05V with a current of 7.2A and power of 86W. I then added a 4A battery charger where the battery settled under load to 13.98V with a current of 8.1A and power of 113W. Lastly, I put two small motorcycle AGMs in series and it was running about 22.3V under load with a current of 12.8A and power of 285W(!). I cooked a couple of pies that way. I thought it might go "pop" and let the smoke out, but it went fine...for now. Cabling was a little warm ;-) This was done on a concrete floor, not in-vehicle. I'm not staying with such a high voltage. It was just for fun. Generally, anyone wanting to work out the current draw in this type of oven can use 1.7ohms as a starting point. Divide your chosen voltage by 1.7 and you have your current in amps, which is the output side of the step-up converter. The current going into it will be higher, though these boost converters usually have a larger wire size on the input side to allow for this. The limiting factor, apart from the element, will be the 15A fuse and the wiring, which I'm leaving alone. My stove is rated 100W, while I see Kick-Ass specs say 130W max. I'm guessing there's not much variation between all these brands, but you never know. I'll be getting one of these step-up converters, that's for sure. Also, we have three extinguishers: one in the cab, one in the tub/canopy and one in the trailer. Great video. New subscriber.

Thanks for sharing this information very interesting, always great to learn about 12v gear cheers thanks for supporting my channel 👍

Measuring on the side internal wall will give you a better indication of oven temp as the element is located on the bottom so your experiment may be a little flawed. You should also try the 15v step up it works even better, I've tried both on my TB marine and the difference is better again. Enjoying the great content keep it up

I put our food in and cook the area is less to heat 🤔 like trying to cool a empty fridge , 120 minutes our snags/ chops are done no pre heat , roast 2 1/2 hours it’s a roadchef and about 6 amps, l like your videos 👍🏼👍🏼and have you tried the amp meter between the step up and the supply to see if it is pulling the same amps ? Pete .

Have a fire extinguisher in my car and also everything is fused. 100A breaker on the batteries and everything from there has a fuse in the extra fuse block.

Does the oven get hot on the outside? Is it an issue having something on top while it’s on, eg camping chair or other gear, while you’re driving and the oven is on? Cheers
@Sawadventures67

No, the only part of the oven that gets reasonably warm is the door the sides stay very cool
