In this week episode our travel plans go wrong. We learnt that you have to book campsites around exmouth, coral bay. We had no idea and we shocked that we can't find any camps to camp at.

WA is notorious for having camp sites booked out and no one turns up, leaving them vacant. 'A'holes book them under concession rate, (especially DEPAW sites in Southern WA) paying a minimum rate upfront, then adjust their payment if they actually go. It's infuriating!😡 Great vid guys - you're awesome 😎👍

100% everyone is comme ting how poor the system is in terms of bookings and yes the travellers are even worse when the dont cancel and others can't book. Oh well, ut keeps us busy hunting around for somewhere to stay 😂😂😂

It’s definitely something that get spoken about in the community. When we heard about a couple years ago we thought it can’t be, but it is and we have to adapt to it as we can’t change the system but work with it .

the DEPAW site is a joke - you have to play pick a date and then another date etc - I have spoken to the ministers office haha about having a function to just search all vacancies at a site rather than having to enter multiple dates - all too hard apparently - as retirees, we are flexible and would book and plan around the vacancy and a week or two either way isn't a problem. At the moment it is very frustrating - what say others

Yeah 100% agree, the site is super frustrating amd you jave to sign in each tome as well. Takes ages to find sites with alot of having to move around!

Great episode guys!! We are like you guys and prefer to not book upfront as we travel. We have found that it's got worse since Covid 19. We were at Wooramel station 2 yrs ago and there was definitely water in that river. We've experienced it dry as well though 😊

I must agree with old mate below here, pre bookers that dont turn up are a pain in the ...ask any traveller.. and another FYI for Big D,,,,1 huge advantage of having a dry creek/river bed is you can fish in there, and if your lure gets hooked up, you can simply walk out and get it, and not get wet ! How good is that? Keep enjoying the best state in Straya, and stay safe.

alot of the people in the SW of W.A. in winter all head north to escape the cold and everything is booked out.

I believe so. All head north for the winter. Its been pretty tricky getting campnsotes. Literally have to book day by day. Luckily have not found ourselves out I the cold yet! Thanksnfor your comment and hope you have a great week 😀

Join the club …… we don’t like booking ahead either and yes we agree about the booking system and how difficult it is to jag a site somewhere but WA has become just so busy , something we are not ,as WA ites , used to . No doubt you are still enjoying yourselves but completely understand your frustration . We have been into Gladstone Campground many times heading north . Did you hear the Chiming Bellbirds in the early morning ? The road in from the highway is , during wildflower season ( August , Sept into October ) usually a carpet of yellow . The Wooramal River is an underground river like the Gascoyne River in Carnarvon and only runs when there are heavy rains further inland .

Oh wow you need to ne writing the descriptions for tourism, it sounds absolutely garrulous! Yes I imagine as locals to WA you must be gobsmacked at how many travellers come through. It is a beautiful state and I can understand why! Yes I am not a fan of booking systems at all!

We are like you we wing our way around the country. We are heading to WA soon via Katherine in NT. Even though you have had trouble we are still going to wing it. We just have to travel just a few days in advance it just works best for us. Loving your episodes, look forward to everyone. Tell us, why not do more free camping along the way if booking is so difficult?? Maybe get off the beaten track more in less tourist areas especially now with Starlink ! It was another great vlog my friends, Sue your hats look great , Derek you have some incredible fishing spots coming up . Don’t be afraid to hit up the locals to give you great free camp areas that are near a water body to 2 . Derek just a tip the tides and wind can be unforgiving please always check your barometer and as soon as it looks like the wind is going to pick up legit back to port my friend, the West Coast is notorious for fast moving currents and flash weather, which is completely different to what you would have experienced either in FNQ or SA. The rewards though are big fish and lots of fun. Stay safe, Travel well . Just 1 little niggle- a lot of pop up adds during this vlog guy’s.

Great episode guys - DBCA booking system is a nightmare makes it really difficult to get into WA parks and every time we get a booking on arrival we find half the sites unused because people book and then because it’s quite cheap when they change plans just don’t bother to cancel. DBCA needs a blacklist / fine system so people at least cancel bookings they no longer plan to use to free them up for others.

100% Grant this is exactly what we are finding! They def need to invest in a better booking system! Everywhere we go there are masses of open sites yet the system says fully booked 🤔

The booking ahead scene is no fun. I find you really only need to do it when school holidays are approaching tho north WA is a unique case of limited options and heavy demand especially with increased travellers in recent times. Don't bash yourselves up about it - often unexpected gems surface out of necessity particularly if happy to head inland away from the coast. Not great for fishing but landscapes and hidden waterholes aplenty!! Enjoying your adventures. I have found water pumps are the biggest pain when vanning particularly if heading off the black top.

Some good solid advice there David! Yes we ha e found some gems and not necessarily the super popular sites or often spoken about! I would love to head inland. It's great to ja e a mix and balance of bush and beach! Yes the water pumps have been the most problems one ahaha 😂 good thing Deryck has learnt how to change them and we carry a spare now! The gas bottles are great, nice an light weight and can see gas level so they work for us.

I’m not 100% sure to be honest. They don’t have payWave as no internet out there so I think if you can’t pay with cash you can’t stay. Not 💯 sure though
