Been married 27 years, we do everything together however we do need space from time to time. We are planning on starting our slow travel - early retirement journey next year however we have traveled a lot and know each other pretty well. It's OK to be different and to disagree, key is to be respectful and compromise. We live in a small apartment of around 1000 square feet but still we find space to be quiet or alone if we need to. Cheers!

I'm team Carrie when it comes to grocery shopping in other countries. I can spend hours. Whether it is being AMAZED and how many different brands of yogurt a place has (let's admit it, Europe is off the chain on this one. I mean, how many different yogurts does one really need?) or starring at the butcher counter wondering what the heck I'd actually do with an entire pig's head if I got one, it is one of my favorite things to do! And don't even get me started on the cheese... Cheers!

I know what you mean about all the different items. I could spend all day in a farmers' market. The grocery store, not so much. 😁🍻

Haha, when my husband and I go grocery shopping together, we divvy up the list and he chooses two items and I choose everything else. But most of the time we just need to go grocery shopping separately haha because of our extremely different paces.

Another great video. Our travel day to Antalya turned out to be our first “trip from Hell” due to train, bus and plane delays and a below expectations hotel room, but after a good night sleep, a room change and a terrific seafood lunch harborside, everything is good. Fortunately we never got chippy, even when the small children behind us started kicking our seat backs on the 3hr flight and the toilet ran all night. Cheers!

Back you up on this 💯 - when Mrs Tooth and I go away, sometimes she'll want a night in but encourages me to go and do my thing, other times she'll want to do a trip that I'm really not in to, so I encourage her to do that. We'll spend most of the time together, but neither of us stress about not wanting to do something that the other person wants to happen. Love your content folks, thank you 😊

Love this video! I also love how here and in all your videos, you appreciate the areas where you aren't the same (e.g., Carrie budgeting). We also have the system that if one of us does more work on something because the other hates it/isn't good at it, the other is a good sport about how it turns out. A difference for us too is at which points we get excited vs nervous about things. When I think of a destination, I'll quickly be super-excited, and my husband will immediately have reservations. This used to bum me out, but now I know that he needs a bit of time to research then usually rule out all the things that could kill us (e.g., shark species and history of attacks, natural disasters, etc.), and if I'm patient we'll get in sync...or his due diligence will turn out to have been wise and we'll change plans.

My wife is so calm, collected, and never over reacts. She's the glue that keeps my sole together. 🤔Says the bald man who totally didn't pull his hair out over nearly 20 years of marriage 😳😉 Kidding aside we are blessed. When we disagree, she always takes the time to explain why I'm wrong. Team work 💪 sharing responsibilities. Well said. Great video 😊

I take a daily about an hour cardio walk alone. It is both therapeutic alone time as well as a good health practice. I’ve posted before, my spouse and I get along really well during slow travel. Your suggestions really resonate with what we have been practicing.

Thank you for sharing that you too find travel days demanding … and that - despite your experience, prep and planning - things still go awry for you as well. Your comments were reassuring given I can tend toward self-criticism when I experience the bumps and lumps on travel days. By example, way-finding is not always intuitive or straightforward for me when navigating sometimes unfamiliar transportation in unfamiliar airports and train/bus/metro stations, in unfamiliar countries. So, I plan to take your advice to adjust my expectations for travel days! Expect that I’ll encounter the unanticipated. And, actively remind myself that even (more) experienced travellers do encounter new challenges, experience some anxiety, and are problem-solving on the fly - just like me. 😅

Thanks to both. I do believe that you as a couple are more uniquely situated in that you are so well connected, you understand yourself, and what you need but also working together with each other. That doesn't always happen. Some couples couldn't be with each other 24/7 and especially on stressful travel days when things don't always go as planned. But the foundational ideas are there to provide insight for couples to consider whether it could work for them. Of course any couple looking to do what you do should have a trial run for a few week vacation and see how it goes. You two did that and realized it could work for you. Valuable advice for those even considering this lifestyle. Cheers to both. Enjoy the Mexican food and cervesas!! Oh, and Brian, no barbers in Mexico?? ;-)~

You two are very similar to my wife and I. We love spending time together. Our way to get alone time kind of happens naturally. I'm in bed by 10pm and wake up at 6am, no matter where I am in the world. Wifey goes to be later and wakes up later. We just got back from Romania and had to settle back into our work schedules. To be totally honest, we miss each other because we got used to being around each other all the time during our travel. Sooo right about directions! I'm the crazy fast driver who absolutely LOVED driving in Romania and wifey is the navigator who gets her left and right directions mixed up. But I don't get mad because I already KNOW that about her. I just laugh about it and we find a new route. Even though wifey has a family flat in Brasov, we have decided to buy our own place and vehicle. This time around we simply got tired of family/friends wanting a piece of "The Americans" and it was very draining. We had to work around everyone's work schedules and we ended up with times that were too hectic and times that were too slow. We have our own pace. From now on, if people want to spend time with us, it will be on OUR timeline. We often don't accomplish as much as we want due to everyone else's schedules. Although, a week at an all inclusive Black Sea resort was pretty cool! I am REALLY tan right now LOL!

We have friends always wanting to come and visit us wherever we are. We try to explain that they need to get their own place and that we have to work on our RU-vid channel, so we do have a schedule. If they are ok with that then we would love the company!! 😊 It sounds like you had an amazing time back in Romania, very cool that you now have your own place! Now back to the grind!!

Hi Brian and Carrie. Love the channel. Plan on beginning our slow travel adventure in about a year when I retire. My girlfriend and I will be in South America for a month from Christmas to the end of January. Thinking we will be in Asuncion, Buenos Aires and Montevideo from around the 3rd of January thru about the 12th. 2-3 days in each place. Spending most of the rest of the time in Brazil. If you are in the area at that time and would like to meet up, let us know. Thanks, Mark and Fatima

Carrie, you must be a saint putting up with that guy all of the time! I’m just kidding Brian, you’re not THAT annoying! Also, I agree with what you said about “compromise” in a relationship…for example, when my wife and I decided to have a dog, she wanted a little dog and I wanted a big dog, so we compromised, and we got a little dog! Alright, enough with the jokes, where in Oaxaca are you? My wife and I want to visit there

Do you ever find that one of you tends to be relaxed and the other one is more intense? It can be frustrating when the couple is out of synch with each other. The relaxed person finds it difficult to relax when the other person is go-go-go. Conversely, the intense person wants to get more done and is frustrated by the relaxed person’s low-key nature. My wife and I can be like that.
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie 6 дней назад
There may be times but for the most part we are in sync. Partly because we make an effort going into a situation that me be intense, to just relax. Pro tip: Never tell your spouse to relax! It never works!!! 😳
@deandoucette7206
@deandoucette7206 6 дней назад
@@BrianandCarrieyes, never tell the other to relax. BTW, I am the relaxed one. When I was working, I was way too intense. Now I am the mellow one. There are times when we do our own thing. I will go snorkeling or play sports. She goes for a hike or for a run. She wants to get up early to experience the ship going under a famous bridge but I stay sleeping. I want to stay up later and enjoy a few beverages. She would rather go to bed early. There certainly has to be give & take or just be okay doing things by yourself.
