Prague, "the magical capital of Europe", as André Breton wrote, has the ability to transport anyone who discovers it to the top of a romantic environment. It is indeed a city imbued with magic, not only by the legendary presence of the alchemists in the 16th century, but above all by the traces of several cultures which are intertwined within its walls, in particular that of the Jewish community very present in the district. from Josefov, in the old town.
Nestled in the meanders of the Vltava, in turn a royal city, an imperial city, a sleepy provincial town then a resurgent capital of a modern state, Prague has carved out an image of the mother of cities, accumulating in successive layers an architectural and artistic heritage incomparable.
The music of Mozart, Dvořák and Smetana bathes the places of strolling in Prague with their notes. Against the backdrop of clinking glasses, cafes still remember the wild debates of artists and intellectuals who reconnect with their past confiscated by more powerful neighbors. The shadow of the Golem looms, in the evening, on the walls of the Jewish city, and its cemetery. If the silhouette of Kafka still haunts the stairs to Prague Castle, the disturbing ghosts of Stalinism have fortunately deserted the corridors of the presidential palace.
Places to visit in Prague
Charles Bridge
We must start this list of places to do in Prague with the magnificent Charles Bridge. Adorned with several statues in Baroque styles and bronze reliefs that bring luck and happiness to those who touch them, animated by street musicians, invaded by tourists ... this bridge is the true symbol of the city, not to be missed.
Try to visit it early in the morning, at sunrise. I went there to take pictures when I woke up at 5am (ouch) but I can tell you that once there I was glad to have forced myself out of my bed. (Almost) Without any tourists and with the morning mist, this place is even more magical.
Climb to the top of the tower at the entrance to the bridge. The Charles Bridge tower on the old town side is located at the entrance to the bridge and can also be visited. What few tourists know is that once at the top you have a great view of the whole old town as well as the Charles Bridge. The price is around 2 euros for access, but it's well worth it.
