Becky, I retired last June at the age of 71. All my friends talked about their plans to travel, spend time in warmer climates, etc. All I wanted to do was get serious about my 4 little raised beds and do some canning. Things i never had time for while raising two kids alone and then just working, working, and working. You have been an inspiration to me. I take your ideas and downsize to my needs. Thank you for all your many videos, ideas and encouragement. BTW: my friends think I'm crazy! I tell them this is the person I am, a homebody! Done the travel, done the career, time to concentrate on my joy! Relearning old skills, and new ones! Gotta go figure out my planting needs and where I'll be setting up the seedling station!

As a farmer I totally relate to the feelings that arise when it is time to harvest the pork. Whether you want to or not connections are made between farmer and livestock. If you’re a wise farmer you’ve given them as much as a beautiful life as possible. It is always hard to say goodbye yet thank you. ❤

Becky, I saw you on The Hollar Homestead with Ben and Meg a couple weeks ago. I am so glad you shared on your channel. It was nice to hear how this affected how you will order pork in the future and have a deeper understanding of the farm to table perspective from a grower. Great job jumping in there and getting hands on experience processing. I have hosted countless chicken butchering workshops and over the years and have become great friends with many of the folks that attended and still process with and for many of them 10 years later.

Being a hunter, I clearly remember the first animal I ever took. From shooting it to processing it and putting it on my table to feed my family…it was a VERY emotional experience. It wasn’t easy to do at all. But knowing where our food comes from is paramount to future generations that they too can appreciate an animal giving it’s life to sustain ours. THANK YOU so much for including this on your channel.

He said at a the beginning of our marriage he said every time she's upset I go out and when I am upset of something she goes in the bedroom and stay there until everything is settled. So they ask him what happened? He says nothing that's why I'm in the street for 25 years. 😂😂😂😂...

This video brought up a lot of memories for me. My dad was an avid hunter. He also processed all the game and fish he caught at home. It was a hands on process that we were all involved in. I miss my dad very much. Harvesting an animal brings a whole new range of emotions and appreciation for them giving up their life for us. I take nothing of this for granted. It has been decades since I last went hunting. I am admittedly soft and do not do well with the whole harvesting process. I have the utmost respect for those who raise these animals, harvest and process them. Thank you for sharing this new journey. I appreciate it.

I appreciate all your time giving credit to those items you use and those who have contributed to your knowledge. All the prep for each video provides your viewers with a professional product. Oh Becky l grew up in Georgia and l remember our annual hog butchering. I was the youngest of 12 raised on a farm. It was my job to cut up the fat into cubes which when rendered the cubes became cracklings. These were added to the cornbread. It was quite a feast. Mom always fried tenderloin and made biscuits for for lunch on butchering day.❤ So happy to see this video that youve experienced what was an annual event to me growing up on a farm.❤ God bless you and your family. I appreciate those who learn butchering skills and then share those skills with others. It is such a blessing for an animal to give its life to feed people, and learning where our food comes from is humbling and can make you much more grateful.

It's so neat that you were able to go do the class. I have watched Bri and Art from the very beginning. I'm a big follower of several of the Homesteads in NC, Tennessee and SC. I live vicariously through all of you. Thank you for this video and safe travels to you and your sister.

Thanks for sharing this experience. I also follow Meg and Benn's Hollar Homestead and last week when they showed their video of the event, in a scan of the room I noticed you in the background. What a cool surprise, Having watched a few of their workshop videos it was really cool to watch one from a participant's vantage point. Glad you had such a wonderful experience and that you returned home before the storms.

Oh my goodness! I really appreciate the reverence and the consideration that you gave to Meg’s cooking. Not just her cooking but the skills and importance of using the whole hog. Thank you for being open to new ideas!
