Brief video of the replacement of a traveling bridge crane spindle. This is a typical repair for a situation where the spindle needs to be removed. Its quite the involved process, nothing really too difficult but its definitely a lot of work. Hopefully you're able to get a brief understanding as to how the replacement process works. If you need one done, Don't hesitate to look me up! Thank you for the interest and follow.

I've followed your Instagram Account. I didn't know you had videos here. So I'm a new subscriber. I work in an office, and don't think I've ever even seen a welding machine in real life. But for some reason, watching you work on these big industrial things is kinda fascinating. The way that cutting torch could slice that thing off was amazing. Question Please : Were you heating up the new spindle before you welding it ? If so, why was that ? SUGGESTION : Maybe you could take us through how the cutting torch works, the different options available. Maybe a supplier will sponsor you ! All the best, and greetings from Prague, Czech Republic (where the lock down has us feeling like we're behind the Iron Curtain again :) )
@ICWeld
@ICWeld 4 года назад
Thank you for your reply. 👍 The reason for preheating the spindle is because it is made of a higher grade steel. Sudden expansion and contraction of the metal from welding it while cold can cause cracking issues. I'll have to try and make more detailed videos with closer video shots of the work so it is easier to understand. Thanks for your support 👍
@jimw6991

@@ICWeld Hi Isaac, watched many of your videos, is the a specific temperature you must reach during the preheat? Also, the camera is so far from you I can't really see what you are doing. I have to say this is surreal, I tagged along as a kid on fixes just like this, I would hand rods and turn the amps up and down. I just came across this tonight and this man is the Texas version of my father, Grew up in ND. I watched other videos prior and then this, travel cranes, heavy equipment and bolt extraction. My father is always the specialty/professional repair and fabricate man. My father does a lot of this work in the field but has a very equipped shop, still a one man show but jack of many hard fixes. Awesome rig by the way!

It's hard to get into some of these professions until you have some years under your belt doing the various trades, unless you grow up around it or grow up on a farm or something where working on industrial equipment becomes second nature. Once you graduate welding school and get some certifications you can build a rig and do mobile welding. Most welders dont do much mechanical work they just do the fabrication and cutting/welding.

I am always curious as to the settings you are using and the machines and their capabilities. How many amps will that Lincoln suitcase put out? What governs your choice of the oxy torch or plasma? I just found your channel a couple of days ago and I like it. No extraneous loud music and especially the little fast forwarding. My kind of welding video. Plus real job sight projects. While I don't want 'advertising' on tools I respect the judgement of people who use them daily and am interested in hearing an unsponsored, unbiased view. This is good. This is bad. Worth it. Not worth it. For these reasons. I see you using a Hilti angle grinder for example and would like to hear your opinion. You are putting out a good product so I am going to hit the button and look forward to more of your content. Take care.

@bayareaartist999
@bayareaartist999 3 года назад
the suitcase is not the welder. it is to feed the wire. It's call a wire spool feeder. The suitcase then can feed flux core wire or you hook it up to bottled inert gas for shielding and weld different steels and different metals. The suitcase is connected to what I would think is a tweco mig gun. The welde I would assume he has a full duty welder which means he can weld and weld without giving the machine a rest.

I have been watching your videos for awhile know and love the knowledge that you have. I do very little welding but watching you gave me some pointers and I hope my welding will be better from here on out but I do Have one question . I have seen you heat up the material before you weld that area why do you do this ?
@ICWeld
@ICWeld 2 года назад
You preheat thicker plate because the expansion and contraction of the weld area can make it crack if the plate is too cold. You're adding a hot weld and it stresses the steel. Thinner metals preheat as you weld because of how thin they are so its ok not to but not with thick stuff.
