When travel doesn`t go according to plan...
We started our day in beautiful sunny Jerusalem, eating our way through the bustling Mahane Yehuda Market. Here we got to try so many different foods and were able to capture the buzz leading up to Shabbat.
However, traveling during Shabbat in Israel isn't exactly easy - as we found out the hard way. As of 12 noon all trains between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are suspended and the only remaining mode of (public) transportation was the "Egged Bus", which will take you from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv in just under two hours.
After arriving in Tel Aviv we checked into our hotel and quickly grabbed some lunch at a hip restaurant called "Port Sa'id", which was located within walking distance of our hotel.
Unfortunately our dinner plans altered once our friend had to cancel the planned Shabbat dinner at her house. Therefore we decided to take our chances during a rain-free moment to make a dash to "Delicatessen". Modelled on a French deli, Delicatessen has a great selection of hot and cold food to take home in the beautifully decorated delicatessen downstairs, a sophisticated restaurant upstairs (open for breakfast and lunch), and tables to sit and drink a coffee and eat a croissant outside. Highlights (and there are so many) include a well-stocked fromagerie and charcuterie, delicious baked good and cakes from their sister shop The Bakery (the owner also owns The Brasserie), a quaint flower section, the best chopped liver in the city, and great pizza bases to make pizzas at home.
We had originally planned to spend our days in Tel Aviv exploring the city and trying the amazing street food and restaurants Israel's capital has to offer. It seems though as if the "weather god" had a different plan in mind. As if someone had opened the floodgates, it poured down relentlessly and we were stuck inside for the most part of the day. Nevertheless, we did make the best of it.
So come along with us!
