Good effort and 10/10 for spontaneity on this one! 😁😁 As a chap aged the other side of 55 myself, I long for those long forgotten days when I could sleep on the floor of a cross channel Ferry without the need of medical assistance to get up again! 🙄 I'll be watching out for next Sunday's edition!

Well done on your trip, I do this journey by bike about three times a year, but travelling in the opposite direction, my biggest tip would be to book yourself a cabin for your trip on the Ferry, they're not expensive and you can have a comfortable rest as well as a shower before setting off on the next leg of your journey, much nicer than a dirty floor....

Looking forward to seeing the rest of these videos, Ireland may well be my next trip.....loving the way you are just 'winging' this one too

Ireland is one of my most favorite places, lived there from the states for about 3 months a few years ago. The landscape is gorgeous boarding epic but the phenomenal people there make the place wondrous. With that said, traffic in Dublin is what made me loose most of my hair. Keep riding, more importantly keep living that no regrets life.

I toured Ireland when I was 14 with my dad on his 79 bonneville he rebuilt. One of my happiest memories with him. Cant wait to give my kids the same experiences (we also had the rat packs :) )

Looky you didn't get stuck at Angley for 16 hours as we did due to bad weather earlier this year. Great to do an unplanned trip, Europe is ok unplanned go and enjoy. PS use the tunnel it is so easy.

Your first impressions of Ireland (MPH to KPH, what's a N plate) remind me of a friend who after coming back from a holiday in Spain was traveling to Dublin the next week. So took their "Spanish euros" to the post office to get them changed for "Irish euros". To be honest I probably wouldn't have taken my passport.

As I aplaud your brave efforts to travel , I must point out that your video needs some work. It shows you boarding the Dublin Swift (fast craft). Then you say it took 3 hours crossing, incorrect. In more than one part it shows the Much bigger ferry, which does take 3.5hrs to do the crossing. This confuses other motorclists who wish to make this journey. As a seasoned motorclists I wish you all the best for any future travels.

In Ireland N is novice driver, similar to a R plate in N.Ireland (restricted) you have to display it for 2 years after passing your test. MPH tp KPH divide MPH by 5 and multiply answer x3. Love it that you completely winged it.

That was the The Irish sea you were crossing not the Atlantic, that would have been a very long journey! You'll love Ireland, have a ball. You'll have to get used to the tractors. Should be able to change your digital speedo to Kph, Approx values 30mph =50 kph, 40mph =60kph, 50mph=80kph, 60mph =100kph and 75 =120 kph. N is for Novice driver, same as the P plate in the UK. Enjoy

It's great that you are flying by the seat of your pants, but a little planning isn't a bad thing. You will still have plenty of opportunities to hone your problem solving skills. 😄 Some of your time on the ferry could have been spent looking at a map, just so that you could get out of the city. Beyond that, knowing where you are going would allow you more time to look, and to keep yourself safe, specifically at 12:33 of your video when the car was pulling out in front of you. I know you know this, but 2 distracted vehicles is never a good thing...stay safe. I'm starting my own adventure in early March and doing only slightly more planning than you (what could possibly go wrong 🤣) I'm off to South America, but first I have to ride from Atlantic Canada through the US to get to warmer riding. I hope I don't have too much snow to ride through and have better luck with maps than your experience lol :)

I can't do Ireland without a full licence (hopefully soon) but Northern Ireland is feasible. I've bought some physical maps. It has to happen. I was in the IOM in 2019 but can't ride there right now because while my CBT is accepted, my UK car provisional is not.

If you search the internet you might be able to change your bikes clocks to kmh from mph, I can on my MT07

If you are still in Ireland on the 18th & 19th you should check out Kells road racing. In Kells Co Meath.

The 'N' plate on cars stands for "Novice". It's obligatory for the first two years after passing your driving test.

N plates on a car stands for Novice, N plates have to be displayed on your car for first 2 years after passing driving test

Next time your coming to Ireland let me know, I let bikers camp on my farm for free has ruins of Abbey on it, biker myself so I've no problem firing on bbq and donating few beers and a fire to fellow bikers!

L is for learner. Before you pass your full drivers test. N means you’ve passed your full drivers licence test but are still considered a Novice for 2 years and thereby need to display that 😊

set KM/H in google maps or nay other maps you are using :D.. unless your bike have the option to change the ODO setting to KMPH or MPH in the meter console itself :).. some bikes do like benelli, BMW etc

Glad you found safe harbour for the night Saffron , done that ferry trip on the bike a few times, I always find it disorientating , best thing is to get off the ferry, find a cafe, drink coffee and regroup, give yourself time to sit and think what next, I think there should be a thing called ferry lag.

Hi Saffy, very interesting and you gave me a few laughs, in a kind way. The big danger we have is that if we "old bikers" comment or give advice we sound patronising, never the intention. I just got back from a trip to Orkney, and as I live in the south of England, quite a long trip 1709 miles in eight days. To do this you need a good hop on day one, Salisbury to Sterling, I always plan at least the first night so in my case a good B&B. I like you made a balls up of my route crisis crossing England adding miles to my trip, fool. Feel free to look at my facebook, I have some great pictures. I'm enjoying you films, keep it up. Oh just as a foot note, 100 Km = 60 miles. Your bike handbook should tell you how to change it on your bike.

There is a lot to be said for getting a cabin and getting a decent kip in. No where on a ferry is comfortable! You should try going to Spain next?

lol I know how you were feeling, I am autistic, I have paid for my ferry for the end of the month, have my camping gear and no idea what or where I am going when I land, just a rough idea, Land's End - John O Groats lol my aneixty will be through the roof when I land in Portsmouth haha but that is the fun during an adventure.

The fast ferry is only 2 hours, no point trying to sleep. You will likely need some waterproofs

You definitely need a new navigation app. If your current one doesn't tell you you're taking a four hour detour, then it has some serious issues.

I recently started watching your vlogs and the adventure is calling to me. I passed my bike test in January and have my dream bike now and so excited to go exploring with her. Sadly no spurr of the moment trips I can see due to having a little but definitely had some wake up have a free day lets explore though I end up time watching. Have a trip to Wales planned though and by that I mean I have booked it off work, have someone for my little and that's as far as I've got.

Not sure on Irish Ferries, but DFDS crossings have a kiddies soft play area......out of bounds for playing on whilst ferry is moving. (ideal place to get a decent kip) ;-) ;-) them seats are ok for 10mins then ya get numb bum. 😕

Good Video, but your mobile phone is right in front of Speed meter, or at least in the video it looks like you cannot see the speed numbers. maybe you should change the location of mobile mount to have clear view of speed and to avoid getting speed ticket :-D

Hey, Saffy! I've watched probably 80% of your videos the other day, and for some reason I just went on my first moto camping trip. Only 70 miles away, but definitely a new experience, it was amazing! And actually much harder than it looks, you must be paid for that much effort :D Only the straping on the luggage took me good 40 minutes :D If you think your bike is not perfect for touring and you laught now looking back at your older setup, now imagine a modern cruiser style bike with a removed pillion seat, on its place a bolter wooden base for top boxes. The top box is from an old power tool, if I have to guess around 15L +/- 2. And I just strap a big backpack on top, with bits straped to the bag. I've myself filmed the trip, might try to put a video. Cannot even imagine, the feeling to be on tips as much as you, and without any previous experience, you just jumped on the bike. Keep the good work and one day we might meet on the road! Love and peace! Martin.

I had to laugh, we've all done this , I've been out of Dublin port lots of times and still have to concentrate so don't feel bad, they is two main routes m50 or go through the city. come out go left to a roundabout go right keep the river on your left after about a mile or so go left over a bridge then right the river now is on the right keep on this till you eventually go left on the n4 to m4. or out of port follow m50 signs, love the video content

You don't need to move your Bike backwards and forwards to turn around. While your bike is on its side stand. Pull the bike over to you. and spin the bike around. The bike will balance on the Sidestand. and the wheels come off the ground. There are millions of Bikers and Dealers don't know this.

Couple of things. The n stands for novice and must be displayed Street passing your test for as few months not sure how long. Next it's the Irish sea not the Atlantic anyway no worries. Next if you're going somewhere with no real destination always follow the sun especially in Ireland. Yo went south and I know in the next video there's going to be rain. Where's as if you followed a weather app you'd know the North around Donegal was 20°c . I know this because I went north and was swimming in murder hole beach. Hey Saffy, you don't need to be embarassed at your lack of knowledge of the technical matters of bikes. In your short riding career you have had more biking adventures than many "experienced" riders get in 20 years. You are not one to sit back and talk about trips, you are not a dreamer. You get on your bike and go! You can be proud of yourself. Well done Saffy in getting to you desination on the first day. You didn't get lost. Just took the scenic route. With regards to speeds, if your bike has a digital speedo, there is a good chance you can change it from mph to kph. If not try to learn a few basic speeds, and use those to estimate the other speeds. 80 kph = 50 mph. 100 kph = 62 mph. 120 kph = 75mph
