Here's how I travel to different destinations worldwide with my road and gravel bikes to embark on unique cycling adventures.
I'm reviewing the Evoc Bike Bag Pro case, which I've used frequently for years.
I get asked many questions regarding how I travel with my bikes, so I figured it's time to post a review on my process.

Great review. I love this case. To keep that chain from flopping/ bouncing around, you can actually position the chain on the red axle post (with small groove) to keep it taught & in place.

Thanks for the compliment! Funny enough, another commenter mentioned the same thing about the notch in the axle post. I had no idea that was meant to be a chain keeper. (I seemed to have missed that on the simple instruction manual.) Cheers!

I appreciate you doing this video man. Been worried about traveling with my tarmac so I just haven’t done it. With integrated cables, hanging the handlebars is not a good option. Glad to see you’ve had no issues.

No problem, I'm glad that the video was useful. I'm planning to do a follow up video at the end of this year. As of late, the zipper track on one side is starting to wear out, but isn't too much of an issue at the moment. Also, I've learned that there may have been a slightly upgraded version of the bag compared to mine.

@@smouvemouves do you know the name of the upgraded bag? I almost pulled the trigger yesterday.

@@kentao4 Oh, it's the same bag. What I meant is that I've heard that the company made some updates. (Not exactly sure how true that is)

Excellent, crystal clear, really well done but overly optimistic review. Size 54 cm fits way better into any case than larger bikes. Many reviews are highly critical of the durability of the Evoc Pro.. Airlines have consistantly beat the crud out of my standard suitcases. Over time, bikes don't stand a chance. This case is simply postponing the inevitable. Really enjoyed your presentation.

Thanks for the compliment, it's much appreciated! I completely agree that over time, the case is going to lose the battle against the airline baggage handlers. As of late, I've started reinforcing the rear derailleur area with cardboard for extra safety. Also, I've been a bit worried about the wheels as they are packed on the sides of the bike. They will be the first to absorb heavy impact from rough handling. This is leading me to start looking into other cases on the market to see if there have been any advancements in bike travel cases.

I enjoyed this well-done video. I've owned the same case since 2019 and have flown over 25 trips. The zipper is exposed at the shoulder near the handlebar area and subsequently was damaged on a recent trip. It's still functional but I noticed the latest version has a bumper with the zipper recessed underneath in that location to reduce the risk of damage. I purchased a 2nd case for my wife. You're right, it's expensive but worth every penny! My fees have been on average $75 one-way ($150 round trip) on Southwest. The splines are difficult to insert but once in, it's a solid case. BTW, I typically do not take the pedals off and have not had any problems. A major pro is how easily it rolls with just 2 fingers in the handle. Prior to the Evoc I used a hardshell case (Trico Iron case) but it was very heavy and cumbersone to handle in the airports, I use it only very rarely but will often ship my wife's bike with it. I see that you did GFNY 2023 -- me, too! I'll check it out

Thanks for the kudos!!! I wish I had the zipper covers, feels like I might run into an issue with them at some point. Funny that you mentioned the Trico case. During my initial research, I liked that case, but heard that maneuverability was difficult. Figured since I travel frequently, I'd better go with the Evoc. My Look Keo pedals have a small notch on the sides, I was a little paranoid that they would wear the inside padding thin. (Good to hear that I could keep them on if in a jam.) Yup, did the GFNY and LOVED that event!! I'm planning to go back this year! Cheers!

My biggest fear is when TSA throws around the case and ruin the zipper. Does EVOC have a service to repair it? Has anyone experienced that problem and did something about it? Please reply. I don’t want to buy something that expensive and have it destroyed by TSA. Otherwise, excellent review!

Their warranty is for 2 years. However, if you read it on their website, it seems to be oriented toward manufacturing issues vs. misuse. My case has been through the ringer and is still pretty solid!! (It has thousands of travel miles on it now.) Recently, I have noticed some zipper snagging on one side, so eventually, I'll prob have an issue. But, it's paid for itself many times over. If you have a ton of patience and don't have internally routed cables, get a hard case. You'll just have to break the bike down and rebuild it every time you travel.

Maybe I missed it, but does this collapse down at all? It would be nice to store it in an airport locker if I am bike touring without a car..

Good callout! I failed to show how the case collapses down. Yes, it can easily collapse down by removing the plastic rods/splines that are inserted into the sides. It collapses down pretty flat into a long narrow shape.

Very informative! I finally upgraded to a Teammachine, and I have been itching to travel with it. Were there any particular reasons you went with this brand/SKU specifically, or why you went with a soft bag over a hard shell? Just curious!

Hey! I liked how easy it looked to get the bike in and out of the Evoc case. I was definitely concerned with the padded soft sides, but based on reviews, I felt good about buying it. The hard cases that I saw online all seemed to require you to remove your handlebar, which I didn't want. Also, the hard cases seemed to be heavier. My decision came down to the Evoc and Scicon's Aerotech Evolution case.

I have the same case purchased recently I used it for a trip from the UK to Barbados. For the price paid if I have issues with the zip/lock, I'd be trying a warranty claim.

Initially, I thought about doing that. But, after seeing how frequent TSA goes into the case, I felt more comfortable using the barrel lock.

Hi, very good video as it is hard to find a good one that shows whole process. What is the size of your Tarmac SL7 as I'm trying to see how big bike you can fit in. Thanks

I have the same bag, mine has been on two trips and the top plastic has been cracked on both ☹️. Does yours have any cracks yet? Mine is the updated version that has protectors for the zipper.. so I thought maybe they downgraded the plastic making it more fragile. One tip with the chain, there is a groove in the plastic pin you can run your chain over to hold it in place.
@smouvemouves
@smouvemouves 7 месяцев назад
Wow, sorry to hear about the cracks. My case hasn't experienced that. Your hunch might be correct about them downgrading the material. (I didn't know there was an update to the case.) BIG thanks for the tip regarding chain! I'm going to try using it in a couple months when I fly to my next event.

What size bike in CM do you have for reference purposes?….trying to see if a 61cm bike would fit….thanks
@smouvemouves
@smouvemouves 5 месяцев назад
My Tarmac and gravel bikes are size 54. I could see a 61 fitting inside of the case, but you would for sure have to lower your seat post. Check on Evoc's website, I think they have a chart.

I have the same bag and the splines are soooo hard to put in all the way to be able to close them. Do you have the same issue?
@smouvemouves
@smouvemouves 6 месяцев назад
Yup, when the bag was brand new, I had to use a soft rubber mallet to gently pound them into place. I've kept them inserted since then.
