As long as most people have land on which to grow and build houses, they will not congregate in the crowded slums of the cities. None of the democratic votes will solve this problem. On this issue, only China is a role model! Public ownership of land, allocating land to each farmer.
am an indian staying in Singapore. i go Philippines every quarter past 20 years or so. ,have a business., these guys are very much like indians at heart and they carry a very tough life as well. There is a huge population of the indian sikh and probably gujju and other communities who're fairly localized. Many foreigners like to settle down in parts of philippines as its english speaking and also has been a colony. There's tremendous good n bad about this country but i guess, every disorganized country has it. my personal recommendations to visit to you are mentioned below: In City: BGC / Makati / Paranaque / Baclaran church / MOA / Timug Ave / Greenfields / Tutuban (Divisoria) / Intramuros (my total colonial favorite) Outskirts : Batangas / Cavite (Ta'al volcano) / Rizal (best hilly region) / Bohol / Baguio / Cebu / Iloilo / Davao / Pampanga etc etc., happy hiking

i am from india but i would say there are other better places in Phillipines too. I hope u go there too , i dont know if u would be able to go there or the number of days u r travelling. Its a VERY BEAUTIFUL country with very diverse culture similar to us but in a smaller scale .
how does this compare to the slums in Mumbai? seems like the people in Philippines slums are happier, you see people more friendly/happier in India slums?

i find it interesting how this women in that kind of dressing is freely roaming around the lowest slum of her city and yet no one is staring and harrassing. Compared to here she can only do it in rich or upper middle class circles
In ancient India, philippines was called as suvarnadweep means golden islands. Ancient Indian history has 3 level of influences in asia. Philippines, afghanistan, tibet, south china were considered as having distant influence but had their own empires. Myanmar, indonesia, malaysia, singapore, thailand, vietnam, laos, cambodia had very close relation and cultural influence and had very close trade ties. Today's Bangladesh, pakistan, nepal, srilanka have been part of our history and are closely associated.
Yes there was Hinduism ..they found many Hindu idols..there is one island called Cebu it was ruled by Cholas..king was called Rajah.. still members of royal family are there but after Spanish colonisation they converted to Catholic.

after watching your video of Phillippines slums I can confidently say that Our mumbai Dharwad slums are the best ever because they are much worser living conditions there and still people out there work for living and they do businesses in those slums which have turnover in CRORES...we Indians very well know how to live our lives when there is nothing else....but at 10:00 what you said is really a good one...yeah we need to be grateful for whatever we have instead o whining for something that we dont....THE GRASS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE IS ALWAYS GREENER..
Travelling is not only about visiting beautiful places. Much much more than that. Visiting a poor slum has more profound memory than visiting a beautiful beach.
He is showing the tough life of people and how grateful we should be for having what we have. The content also suggests to be generous. But people like you find anything and make fuss about it.

China doesn't have slum, but China can't represent developing countries. Some features improving that China is almost a developed country, some areas even better than some developed countries, but some west provinces in China are still in developing levels. So China is unique.
do not feel you are lucky as you may belong to uppper middle class in India, should feel for people who are working for you as servants in India and living in even worse conditions than what is shown here, try to contribute your profit from travelling for the upliftment for the people living in India slums, also If you feel really bad for these people then back home you should protest for change so that there are no more slums in India. Of course, you haven't been to Chinese community sports venues because it's too hot outside and young people have their own jobs during the day, so you will see many people doing sports in the cool evening.
also they do not play on streets , Gov bulid them schools and play grounds, they also hae the highest list of medals in the Olympics, they must have the facility to win medals.
