Fantastic! Looking forward to this and reliving the epic memories that was this magical adventure! 👍 Haha my reaction to "who's excited" was underwhelming, I swear I was excited beyond belief 😅
I think Alert only has about 50 people though. So, I guess it's not a town. I think even in Svalbard there's more northern settlements. So, maybe it's the northernmost town.
I’m looking forward to your take on this trip! BTW - I, for one, was surprised to find out that Longyearbyen is not a Norwegian name, but rather a modification of the name of the American coal executive, John Longyear, who founded the Arctic Coal Company.
I did the same thing about three weeks after you! I arrived June 24th and planned the 10-day trip about 2 1/2 weeks prior to taking off so not a lot of time to really research much. Definitely an uncomfortable few days to start but once I was done I felt like I had learned sooo much and was sad to leave.
And here, I always thought that Alert in Canada's NorthWest Territories (NWT) at 82deg 30min North (817 km from the North Pole) was the farthest north settlement.
