I drive along the A40 road quite often, heading westwards from Oxford to Cheltenham, and pass close by to Burford - had meals in a certain pub just outside of Burford several times. Soon after Burford you leave Oxfordshire andf enter Gloucestershire, the main "home" of the Cotswold region. I love those roadsigns near Burford which indicate the way to "The Rissingtons" & "The Barringtons" - no, they are not families, they refer to FOUR separate little villages all close to each other in a cluster - Great Rissington, LIttle Rissington, Great Barrington and Little Barrington. I really love all the intriguing place names of all the many very picturesque villages and small towns in the entire Cotswold Hills area of our lovely little England.

Don't let the planners hear that.I now live in what was a pretty little market town bursting with history.During an archaeology open day in the town, the locals were telling us about "Him"Who was council chief at that time.60s I think. They say almost singlehandedly,'He'ruined the town.Took backhanders to have the nearest city unload many of its 'dross'here, Which meant losing acres of land to build sink estates. And pulling down many historical buildings, some of which were medieval,to put up square concrete buildings & flats. Two examples of this, being the job cent. & the cinema. And the river was diverted,in order to build the most ghastly shopping mall!I read an old newspaper. This man confirmed that he would've pulled down every old building in the town if he could! That was an horrific article to read as an archaeologist. The new library is another square box.We only had a couple of days to dig, before everything was concreted over. Its so frustrating, because some interesting things were coming up.This town is ancient. The Cotswolds r beautiful. My sis was born there.I just hope someone can stop the planners before this beautiful country is totally deprived of its history & it's wonderful buildings.

Angelo Massimo: I love England, too - and I am English! I love living in England and have been all around the Cotswolds area many times as I live not all that far away, in another very beautiful part of Western England - in Herefordshire. But Angelo - you are Italian and I love your country, too! Last October I spent ten wonderful days on the coast just outside Sorrento, with spectacular views across the blue Bay of Naples to the city of Naples itself in the distance, just beneath the slopes of the awe inspiring landmark that is Mount Vesuvius. Bueno sera!

Actually the Cotswolds area can be said to include a little bit of Worcestershire as well...a tiny little corner of south eastern Worcestershire jutting into Gloucestershire....the area around the truly gorgeous village of BROADWAY, nestling below the slopes of the Cotswold Hills. Look it up - Broadway, Worcestershire. Lunch in a 17th century hotel restaurant in Broadway was so excellent in fantastically beautiful surroundings that we deliberately had the same experience two more times, usually on our way to and from another very scenic and picturesque county full of black and white Tudor timbered buildings surrounded by orchards and the greenest of meadows - Herefordshire. Try both Broadway and Herefordshire some time - you will never regret it!

If only more 'Englishmen' were able to see England through the eyes of intelligent Americans (and there are MANY of those), then perhaps they'd gripe and moan a little less, and come to appreciate what they were lucky enough to have been born into a little more.

Steve MetalHammer - I sympathise totally with your sentiments. Luckily, I think even our dimmest 'planners' - the ones who seem to have had Aesthetics By-Pass Surgery - are unlikely to inflict another Milton Keynes upon us. And, of course, there's 'development'...............and 'development'. I certainly wouldn't protest TOO loudly if we had a few more Poundburys (God Bless Prince Charles - whatever the architectural wunderkind whizkids say): would you ? Guys, look at this comment by Amit Paropkari: "... no wonder British ruled the world, look at their countryside: not only its beautiful , its clean, well maintained & elegant, it reflects a class & discipline!". I agree: his comment is SO right! So, don't you think that beauty, elegance, and class deserve some effort from anybody presenting it? Doesnt the number of "likes" (it is 0,44% - he has not got even 0,5% !!!!) - is the best proof of this video's worthlessness??? People open it up and leave the page straight away! In my opinion, if one can not pull himself up to it, - one can try presenting some public toilet downtown.
