In the first episode of "Travels with a Curator," Xavier F. Salomon, Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, transports us to Venice. He introduces us to the Ca' d'Oro, a house museum which was lovingly restored around the same time that the Frick mansion was built in New York City.

Can d'Oro is the story with the most breathtakingly beautiful place and the most heartbreaking ending that I have heard. So haunting! And yet so beautiful! Thank you Mr Chief Curator!

We travel a lot, but often it is difficult to absorb the many aspects of a museum in a short time. The Frick presentations are jewels of education to prepare for a future visit. Thank you. Elizabeth 🇨🇦

Wow I’m immunosuppressed and withdrawn in this epidemic. Now I feel more inspired to survive! Been to the Frick and to Venice but not the Ca’ d oro or Boston. God preserve us and all the beauty available.

I am lucky to have visited all three of the museums mentioned in this travelogue. I have a photo of my husband kissing me by the well in Ca' D'Oro. Thank you for this wonderful series, and giving me the opportunity to relive my visits.

Xavier F. Salamon is one of our "New York treasures" and his tour of the Ca' d"Oro was inspiring. I pray that on the other side of this pandemic, that Venice can better manage what has become an unsustainalbe amount of tourism, especially from those loathsome giant out of scale ships. I understand that Venice has been hollowed out of real residents, down to something like 50,000 people. Venice is my favorite place in the world, and this year they have suffered from first the worst aqua alta, and. now the COVID virus. But my prayer when we get back to traveling, that the city imposes some order, as their cultural patrimony is being worn away by overtourism, and especially these giant cruise ships which should be banished!

it was a shame that I didn't get to visit Venice when I traveled to Italy. but thanks to our curator Mr. Salomon, I have every reason to go there if I get a chance! Those mosaic designs are incredible and insane, and it moves me a bit when I learned that Franchetti's ashes were buried in a column where he spent his heart on. I look forward to more videos guided by the frick foundation. :))

There have been a plethora of museum curatorial talks for the art lover in these dispiriting times that test our fortitude. Kudos to Dr Salamon ar the Frick for his perceptive and scholarly discussions that are well conceived , interesting to us the general public ,and encircle us with warmth and spiritual nourishment . He ends his articulate discussion of the pleasures of the Ca ' d'Ora in Venice by making a poignant and brilliant comparison between the Palace' s spectacular carved " Well Head ' of 1427 and the broken porphyry column which is the monument to Franchetti the individual who so lovingly brought the Palace to its place of near humane perfection ...thank you Dr S. ! I look forward to more of the same .

As a Venetian, I just can say thank you for the love and passion and deep knowledge you put in this description of one of Venice's most evocative museum. There are many beautiful places in Venice neglected by tourists which really worth a visit, such as Palazzo Cini in Campo San Vio, the Pinacoteca Querini Stampalia in Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the magnificent Palazzo Grimani, the Scuola di San Giorgio and Trifone and many many others. Next time you come to Venice, please try to enjoy all these little gems, avoiding the busiest places.

First we get to have cocktails with Xavier Salomon-be sure to watch those videos too!-and then we get to travel with him. :) As someone who loves both the Frick Collection and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, how wonderful to be introduced to a museum I did not know, that is something of an Italian parallel.

Thank You for this marvellous and enlightening series. I have many times taken the Traghetto fron Ca D'Oro to the Rialto Market and the thought of it now fills me with longing for Venice and New York which is in many ways its modern equivalent.
