@Shutbyotch AM’s story is interesting (not everybody can say they survived a plane crash) but nowhere near Travis’ experience. AM spent like a week in the hospital whereas Travis was in the burn ward for 6 long ass fuckin weeks (with pain killers having minimal effect) and he was offering his friends a million dollars to come kill him Plus Travis had the irrational fear of flying and the premonition that he would for sure die in a plane crash, plus his daughter BEGGED him not to go on that flight, plus he asked his best friend to go and thus feels immense survivors guilt over his death. Pity AM had to relapse and the fact that it was documented on a reality show about helping people get clean is beyond cruelly ironic, but Travis lived an actual nightmare.
Its INCREDIBLE what he lived through. And to not be addicted to pain killers or be traumatized by the accident and the pain physically and mentally makes him one of the toughest people ive ever seen.
He was also terrified to get on another plane, until he recently flew with his wife. But he was so pale looking on that flight. He still handles what happened to him, better than most people ever could; surely.
Barker is one in a billion. You would never know what this guy has been thru. I am so happy to see him so active over the last year. He helps MGK completely rebrand and release, play's a Nirvana benefit with Post...snuggled up with a Kardashian right at this moment. I hope he feels good and healthy, cause we need him around for a long long time!
Kinda random but for years I’ve heard losing your hair sucks but once I got bald I started getting so many women. I’m definitely handsome with nice cheekbones and a good manly looking face so I’m sure that helps but damn if I knew women loved the buzzed head look I’d have shaven my hair a long time ago lol Anyone else experience something like this?
My son was lit on fire when was in junior high. Burnt from chest down to his knees. Travis’ description made me think of how my son (28 now) describes the whole experience and the recovery. He has graphs off his back too. The day all that happened will be etched in my mind forever. He doesn’t like to talk about it. There’s such a victim mentality in the world today, he doesn’t want to contribute to it, but when I hear someone else who’s been through it, there’s so many similarities. It brings back a lot of feelings for me, just as a parent.
@@maxmillman9477 yes. Sprayed him with lighter fluid and threw a match at him. It happened very quickly, but a incredibly violent assault. Had a baseball uniform on that burned really well. It was awful. Transferred to a burn unit for several weeks. He was really young, maybe 6th. Grade.
@@dougbrown7413 Gosh, that's awful. I had a guy kick my patella out of its socket from behind when I was 15, so I can relate in my own way. The memory is hard to shake when it's unprovoked and happens so suddenly. My College (or High School) was a pretty violent place. 6th Grade? That is very young for such a violent attack. Was the attacker another 6th grader? Hard to imagine a 12 year old doing that to someone. Horrendous!
@@dougbrown7413 omg!! Are you kidding me? That’s horrible… I’m a mother of 3 boys so I can relate to your last sentence, of bringing feelings back as a parent… I cannot relate to your specific situation though and hope I never have to, because that is just God awful and I am so sorry that happened to your son I couldn’t even begin to imagine something like that, and what’s more I can’t believe that this wasn’t an accident that someone deliberately did this to a 12 year old child!!! I like the way your son thinks though, although it’s good to talk about things that may have caused some trauma to a friend or family etc. it’s just good to have someone you can open up to instead of hold it all in, but that being said we do live in a different world now, everyone is a victim and it’s really so ridiculous now a days, half the people who are a “victim of something” are really so full of themselves and many have no grasp on reality now a days. None of them care to realize that we ALL go through shit they really want to sit back and complain about things that have or haven’t happened all day long.. Your son and I are the same age btw. God Bless :)
@UCyBOkBv0ZNzBYChN_EhKVkQ I'm quite sure he means that _when jet fuel burns_ it deforms and weakens steel (as opposed to melting it). (Reply to 'SS 1964', but RU-vid is substituting the name for some reason)
Wow... Been a fan for 20 years off and on. Had no idea this happened to him! Last concert was at Blizzcon 2013 right before OG Blink-182 was done. Insane survival story. Respect the guy's talent and his tats even more now
@@turnipthrowingpeach_ Wow. Regardless of if you were a fan or not, it’s hard to believe you didn’t hear about this. It was allll over the news when it happened. I was still a kid at that point but I remember it vividly Edit: In fact if you went to their concert in 2013, that was 5 years after the crash..
When he said scrapping with a metal brush, I felt that in my ballz. I wouldn’t never want to go through what this man went through. It’s amazing he’s alive. He is tuff!
4:17 may be the greatest quote of all time "I dunno I just never think about fire, until you're on fire, and then you're like, 'Oh shit.'" -Travis Barker.
"The customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group." I believe he's the perfect example of someone who crosses the gap between various genres of music and the cultures that come along with him. He has played in Blink, has a Slayer hat, and references the modern wave of rap going on right this moment.
I don’t regret any of my tattoos and the vast majority is really quality work. I got really picky about artists after my second. But the amount of people with tattoos is insane. I’m just like everybody else. Joke’s on me. 👎🏼
I love that Joe has him on because he's such a chill guy with plenty of life experience to share. The fact that he loves MMA is a bonus because he respects it so much as well. Another good clip.
Wow! What a powerful person to have gone through all that, and still be so positive. Travis is a genuinely great human being. Who's been through/survived things that would break most people. Gained a whole new level of respect for him!💯
i sooo totally agree! originally i just seen him as a good drummer and didnt really think much beyond that, but after watching the whole interview i see him as SOOOO much more than JUST a drummer! an amazing, caring and insightful human being! it was incredible hearing how much support he had for Tom and his UFO fascination without even the slightest hint of judgment.
I only recently knew in the last year about his plane crash but after hearing about his recovery and what he's gone through I have a new found respect for him
This is a great interview. I'm sorry to say I never took Travis seriously because I always thought of blink as a goofy pop punk joke band. He's actually an intelligent, articulate guy with more credibility than I realized.
you can be intelligent and goofy simultaneously.. the two are not mutually exclusive. Just because people like Elon Musk have a serious demeanor doesn't mean people that are less serious are inherently stupid. :P
When I was 17 I accidentally got my hand sucked into a fryer at work and watched all the skin fall off once it hit the air and that was agony can't imagine what 70% feels like.
This was spoon hard for me to watch. My husband caught on fire when we were kids. The scrapping, the body suits, the time in bed, relearning how to walk. I now rub his scars all the time. Remembering the graphs . My whole life I have looked at fire as a monster that is always coming. The funny thing is that he is not bothered by fire at all. If we watch a movie and someone is in flames I just stare at my husband. Every time I say "Doesn't that freak you out"? Knowing that he know absolutely what that terror feels like and ever time he says "Naw". Meanwhile I am fighting tears.
This guy is amazing. I knew he was a badass but had not heard about the plane crash. We are really blessed to still have this guy around, not sure if we deserve him. His music literally kicks fuckin' ass.
I can't even imagine what he's been through. I am surprised he lived through that but I'm glad he's OK. Hearing about the scrapping made my body feel extremely queasy
Curdled CuntJuice I could see it. I mean it’s all Rock N Roll. Tom Araya would definitely rock a Blink shirt. Probably not Kerry King because he just gives off a metal-elitist douchebag vibe.
I worked for a hospital and assisted with wound care therapy...burn care is ROUGH!!! I have never experienced it but I have seen enough people go through it to know it has to be the worst type of pain 😞😣
First drummer i idolized as a kid. Love his style. I ran my finger through my glass torch flame one time and that hurt for months. Hearing Travis' story is daunting 😧😧😵😵🤯🤯
Damn man. This guys have passed for so much pain. I remember back in the early 2000's when Blink 182 came to Mexico he did the gig with a cast in a leg. Later this accident burned a Lot to the point that he almost lose one foot, later on tour he managed to play with one arm only to later have a severe car crash and injure his arms again. This dude is a survivor, respect.
My father was burned a little over 70% of his body with 56% 3rd degree burns and he had some tattoos on his arms that didn’t get burned because he had lineman gloves on that went to his elbows. Anyway he had tattoos on his arms from the navy and that is where the Dr got skin to graft from and when it was done my dad had little pieces of tattoos on different parts of his body. The Dr said he had a little fun placing the skin on his body. My father lived 12 more years after the accident he spent 8 months in the hospital and had 17 major surgeries during the 12 years he lived.
Travis is just so sweet he is so humble and thats why I like him so much as a performer and he doesnt get all that fake stuff done to his face and body. Through all he has been through he is greatful for what he has and all that pain he endured. He is so genuine looking it makes him look even more handsome. He doesnt have an snobby air about him either and seems to be just a nice person down to earth. Its such a miracle he is here to tell his story and he seems to be happy with what he was born with and not getting all that fake stuff on himself to fit in like other people. He is just a beautiful soul.✌✌🙏❤
The plane crashed here near me in Columbia, I’ve never seen anything so heartbreaking then live local news and the dash cam video from the police. The plane was a blaze on an embankment between the airport and I-26 and there’s chaos and screaming absolutely heartbreaking... A miracle how Travis was buckled up and awake, he was able to get Adam before he jumped down into the fuel, it was extremely dark and the plane was ripped in half. Travis is the most interesting and inspiring man....
I've never been on fire, but I was part of a medical mission trip in Mozambique treating burn patients and it's the most intense experienced I've ever had... If Travis is saying it's the worst pain he's experienced and he was treated here in the US, imagine being treated in one of the poorest countries in the world. The staff cleaned the wounds with a mixture of vinegar and chlorine.
Damn I just noticed how much Travis resembles my homeboy Mike Blake. My bro just died in police custody 20hrs in Fresno County jail and he's gone. Wasn't even thinking about him when I clicked on this. I am now, shit.
Mukksss - man always looking for these ones in the comments. Always hillarious😅. Keep it up . Makes my day. You arw the man. Especially in this age of time. Good work and thanks a lot. Please dont stop
Man... iv always liked Travis barker... since waaaaay before he was known for being Travis barker drummer of blink 182. But watching him on this podcast and other interviews he seems to be even more down to earth and more talented and intellectual than I thought he even was
