This is fantastic news for HBCU's as well as the young man. The one thing to keep in mind is that this signing can either be an anomalous occurrence i.e. outlier or a starting point. That would be determined on the success of his collegiate carrier and his draft position.
@@joshrandall5297 The only thing PWI cares about is getting the best black athletes to satisfy their need to win. As you stated Deion didn't attend class. So FSU only cared to benefit from his physical attributes. Didn't give a damn about his intellectual attributes.
ALL these young Black athletes need to start going to HBCUs and stop building up these traditional White universities and building up their brand. the fact that you can get paid off your likeness, image, or brand opens the door for these athletes to go to HBCUs. and if enough go, they will get the television coverage and exposure necessary to get to the pros.such a huge signing by Deion.
On the tv exposure that is true but the tv companies have a role to play also they not gone allow this to happen they have contracts with power 5 schools
The G, Gram has Hue Jackson, that’s also a big plus for HBCUs, professional head coaching experience. Not easy to get a job on that level. I played for legendary Eddie Robinson Sr. Those years seemed better than playing for LSU. Televised in most cities we’d play in, 70 thou crowds. I was blessed to have played, humbled although never made it to the next level but it was similar under Coach Rob. I was there his last four years, one when he became is still is the most winning college football coach in the world. Salute to Deion and Travis, hope this epidemic turns into a pandemic. Now we need the CBS, NBC, FOX, get these kids exposure, your parents may travel to come see you but most you know wouldn’t see you play until Bayou Classic.
This is huge and a lot of credit to PRIME TIME and Travis Hunter, BRING THE MONEY AND FOCUS TO THE HBCU. WHY go to schools that do not want you or are HOSTILE to your kind. NOT top recruit should go to a school in a place that is hostile to your kind.. ENOUGH OF OUR BOYS FEEDING ENTIRE ATHLETIC DEPT when they hate you. HBCU could use you >>> Travis Hunter will be remembered for this hugely important move. Thank you Travis. F - IOWA, North Dakota, Michigan and on and on and on. GO TO ONLY HBCU. IF you are great the NFL will find you ask Jerry Rice and many many more SO this is zero risk with a lot of benefit to OUR Community. Hell Charity begins at home.
Been saying this for years. I pray that more top players in all sports go to HBCU’s. Then the funds will come with them. Just imagine if half of all the top high schooler for the next ten years go to HBCU’s I know they would win titles in basketball football and may even baseball
You guy are absolutely right!! Deion understands that the players are the ones with the power now!!! Black Student athletes no longer have to beg colleges for entrance and now have autonomy with their careers!!! Things are changing fast and the cottage industry that is college football better get with the upcoming program!!!
Props to Deion and Hunter. Go be great kid!! This is why it's so important to have Black journalist and media covering these stories. So much of the commentary I heard yesterday was disgusting! Criticizing a teen for making the best decision for him and his family, and wanting to play for someone he idolizes at an HBCU. His statement shows he gets how important this moment is, especially for HBCUs. Instead of the media being critical of the FSU staff's performance and leadership -- which has been questionable during Norvell's entire tenure -- they blame the Black kid and Deion. It is interesting that they are never as loud or riled up about the college presidents, athletic departments, coaches, and TV networks who make billions of dollars on these athletes' backs, that they still don't get a dime of. NIL deals are just a band-aid on the real problem and the real money, but those media folks don't speak on that. I'm sure I speak for many, but I'm thankful you both decided to jump back into the TV/streaming platform. Black perspectives are severely needed in this space.
Thanks guys...i love the comparisons....i agree This Is A New Day no matter, if by chance, Travis Hunter does not work out. This is great for HBCU's because top high school athletes will consider going to HBCU's for more than just sports..the life experiences are endless.
I knew Prime was gonna shake things up when he first started 💪🏾. It’s still Roll Tide but i’m praying for his success and hope that the powers that be don’t get too insecure that’s when the scheming starts smh.
Great take! Love ❤️ your show! Keep up the excellent entertainment guys! You can make good news not only informative & clearly understood; but u can make it laughingly fun to listen to…😎😅👍🏿👍🏿
Awesome news but we need to temper our excitement. This is just a start! Let’s see if the NFL scouts will still keep him high on their draft boards. If not, let’s see what he decides. Hopefully, he sees this through.
@@factthatdude4059 we can. That’s why my first two words were awesome news. Master P’s son who plays b-ball made big news with a 2 million NIL deal and went to an HBCU. They went on Breakfast Club and all the outlets talking about it. He has since transferred and left the HBCU due to what they called poor health facilities. I’m just saying, let’s celebrate the win but realize we haven’t won the championship.
@@starttheconvopod tbh P’s soon really is not that good. His NIL situation was pretty much force fed by P. Dude was putting up 4 pts a game if I’m not mistaken
@@pgriff5742 true, I think he still got recruited by some D1 schools. The season was just starting when he got injured. The younger son is better than the older one and he already committed to a non-hbcu , University of Houston.
For too many years they've taken kids out of our neighborhoods to go to their schools, even from an elementary and park level. they would move families out of their district to another so that kid can play for their high school. They pull our best to work for them and often that neighborhood Is left behind. What good is gold if you have no soul.
Going to a HBCU culturally had to be better than a California state university where a friend was asked if she had t"he same inside" as her in a restroom. [1970's] - A "New Age of Enlightenment" is brewing.
Should do like college basketball and have a tournament where everyone can get in and win. College Football has been flawed for so long. Name and Money has gotten you the trophy.
the powers that rule college football are NOT HAPPY with this. if HBCU'S Start taking top 247 kids left and right. pretty soon rules will be implemented to make it harder for those kids. i dont know what those rules are but for example the SEC would not want a powerhouse jackson state beating a power five lets say in five years when and if they are recruiting top 35 classes. the ncaa would some way somehow make it impossible for them to either get on tv or play power five teams. you watch when that happens because if jackson state continues this very fast upward trend money will start flowing into hbcu;s instead of power five schools. and you cannot play with the MANS money.
@@dbmae1532 it is actually barstools money lolololol he is being paid over 2 million which includes a reality show but he had to sign with jackson state
as an assistant varsity basketball coach, I have heard coaches (white) persuade black players and their families not to entertain opportunities from HBCU's Also, I am hearing many black professional players champion this but did not attend HBCU's themselves
I transferred from the University of Buffalo to Alabama State University back in the early 80’s and there was a BIG difference on many many levels not limited to big mamas approval😉
People just keep missing the obvious. Look at the stadiums of these pwi (s). Now look at the size of hbcu stadiums. That money to build those 100k seat state of the art pwi stadiums are built mostly off the backs of the black athlete. Of course they will get mad when those same black athletes start going back to hbcus. Now just watch the dirty tactics these pwi (s) start using to disrupt what these kids want for their futures. Just pay attention to the jealousy already because of one dude's decision. Pay attention People.
I have had the experience of signing with an HBCU..Tennessee st, then due to some issues w the coaches i transferred to Pitt, now a P5 ACC school. I keep hearing negative things about these kids that are getting big time offers but going to “ lesser “ competition. Here are some things people are not factoring into the decision. 1. Women…HBCUs are full of dimes…smart ones…hot ones…big..tall…short…curvy…thin..whatever your flavor..it’s there. 2. No cultural shock. Let’s be honest. Some of these kids come from heavy black environments. Going to a school that doesn’t have that is a major shock socially. 3. Campus life. Step shows, the bands, the talent contests..you don’t get all that at a non HBCU. Some schools but not most of them. 4. The professors…due to the schools being smaller, you get more attention and help if needed from the professors. At TSU my biggest class was like 30 people. At Pitt I had classes with 300 people. You can still get help at a big school but you gotta work at it. 5. The coaches..many HBCUs are hiring coaches that played in the NFL. Who better to get you ready for the league as we called it, than someone that played in it. They are connecting w the players. Oh they don’t have the facilities..blah blah blah. Yeah Pitt had much nicer facilities…but at the end of the day a weight plate Is a weight plate. As long as the strength program is good, the rest is smoke and mirrors. I had offers from non HBCU schools. But living outside Pittsburgh, the Steelers when I was a kid built a dynasty off HBCU players. My mindset was hey, if you can go to an HBCU and play for the Steelers…it’s ok w me. My DC at Pitt was John Fox. He ended up getting Carolina to the super bowl. But they lll tell you something, my DC at Tennessee st, coach Craig Gilliam is the best coach I ever had. Don’t buy into this inferior product BS. The women…oh yeah I said that. TSU majorettes and cheerleaders were a walking beauty contest. My family has four Hampton grads and two attending Alabama A@M and another one works at Howard. They are all doing just fine $$$$
At HBCU'S, you're not just a number, you're a student that's identified by your name. You will be taught if you're willing to listen and learn. You become a vital part of the community of HBCU's. Research the success of African Americans who attend an HBCU.
I've been thinking about this for years. More like a ' what if ' but who says the road to nfl has to be via so called power 5 programs. It's the athletes that make the school from an athletic stand point, not the other way around.
Sorry he hasn’t opened any floodgates. That’s a pipe dream. The facilities in most of the HBCU are still below average and the talent is well below the major conference as is the exposure. HBCU are still 5 years to 10 years off
I don't think for a second Sanders was able to flip Travis Hunter. I think Travis Hunter saw for himself the environment and the family situation at JSU. Once Sanders was able to show Travis the opportunity the decision has Travis Hunter to make on his own.
But if prime gets a HC gig at a power 5 blue blood where there’s more money, does Travis follow? In the end, it’s not just about the money-it’s always about the money
A good opponent makes adjustments at halftime to counter any advantages they didn't have in the early part of the game. The BIG 5 teams are now in halftime pondering adjustments to THE GAME. At the end of the day football symbolizes warfare and in warfare You may win a battle or 2 but can you win the war?
2:55 I certainly hope they don't change the 1-and-done rule for football. A 30yo safety or LB squaring up on a 19yo running back? Kids' bodies are not ready for that.
Really shouldn't be this uproar. What is wrong with keeping it in our community. Catholic schools poach star players from the same communities other ppl ridicule.
I gave this idea! Months ago! Rebuild your Communities! I saw how the NFL was disrespectful toward the Black/People of Color Athletes! During the Trump Administration. Pissed me off! Without these Players! You don't have no Team. On all levels! Let's be real. Watch how the other Colleges come running! Because they will start crumbling. Due to the lack of talent in their key positions! As Jesus Christ said in the Scriptures! The First shall be Last. The Last shall be First!!! We are here. Take advantage of it!!! Don't be a Fool Black Man. You have Power! Be smart and intelligent! It's just Business.
Now the next step is to CHANGE the NFL to work for the Black Athletes. Players need to know they hold the power. Invest all your money and not waste it on Cars and White women. Focus on Blackness and put the owners on notice Promote us and draft us.
I went to Western Michigan. I liked going to school with black folks and other poc. We all got along fairly well and it was a good experience. Too bad that some blacks want to stay away from us white folks.
@@jamesrettig8288 Blk kids going to Blk schools is perfectly ok..It's an experience that PWIs can't simulate or compare to. AS A BLK man I can certainly be proud of this young man. That's my right. As an ex D1 player that played at a power 5 school I applaud this decision and hope more like him make it. HBCUs are outstanding for OUR kids. That's my point. As for winning ...I'm winning at life. That's all that counts
This we end being much to do about nothing because Deion will land a power five job sooner than later(hear he jus interviewed for TCU) and Hunter will jus enter the transfer portal and HBCU football will go back into the shadows
Best college football game I ever witnessed was when McNair came to Jackson to play JSU. To this day, I have never seen a better collegiate performance. He was unstoppable
I imagine the PWI schools in the SEC and ACC are currently blackdoor lobbying the NCAA to sanction HBCUs. They couldn't even handle the Civil Rights movement without spending decades trying to disenfranchise black voters, there's definitely going to be a backlash.
Im real happy about this. If blk people in this country want change in everything it starts with investing in our own people. The more 5 star athlete's commit to HBCU the better. This is huge. Let's break up the status of the good ole boys and make our own. Good for you lil homie
@@dbmae1532 He didn't get a mil. The bottom line is you're mad that blk kids wanna go to blk schools 😂😂😂😂. More and more kids are going for the hBCU experience. It's something power 5 PWIs can't recreate
Truth be told if all of the super star black players go to HBCUs and stop going to PWIs, most of them couldnt beat a JUCO OR even a Div 3 college. I hope coach prime never leave JSU! The light that is shining on HBCUs is golden! FSU is so mad right now they didn't give coach Prime an opportunity. They saw his color and not what he brings to the table. What God got for you can't nobody take from you. March on my kings, march on.
An HBCU superconference featuring a SWAC-MEAC merger along with the additions of Tennessee State, Hampton and NC A&T would be heavenly...not only would the football competition be intense, but the battle of the bands would take the game experience to atmospheric levels!
I THIRD the motion! It would allow them to be a powerful cartel capable of negotiating a powerful new cut for their institutions and student-athletes!! We need. a Bowl that would facilitate a second matchup that would allow Hampton, TSU and A&T to be available for a true FCS HBCU National Championship!!!! I would also add Georgia State to the mix because it would help to have an ATL team in the Super Conference to make it a more attractive TV contract.
From my experience in North Carolina (I’m a contractor), HCBUs equipment and facilities are in rough shape so I’m really hoping if more people commit, it will generate more funding for the schools.
Plantation? Receiving a world class education at a university they could never create or sustain. Entrance in these institutions are based on lowers standards. Plantation. Ha.
@@atlantissurvivor1689 what % of all black players on college rosters go to the NFL? What % have played for free in the NCAA for decades to leave with nothing but their injuries? You do know the courts rules in favor of college athlete compensation bc they’ve gotten exploited for decades? Time for bed bro.
@@winstonsyme5899 “never create”? HBCU are world class educationally opportunities. Christ you’ll just love demonstrating your fn ignorance and lack of historical knowledge.
Let us NOT forget Richard Dent,Ed too tall Jones, Claude Humphrey,Eldridge Dickey, Joe Gilliam, Golden Tate…yes I am an alum of Tennessee State University (Rest in power John Merritt- coached at JSU and TSU)🖤🖤
I would LOVE for you guys to go to the Celebration Bowl this weekend and really experience JSU and it's dynamic. It's really DIFFERENT!! No disrespect to other HBCUs.
The timing was absolutely perfect for the SWAC. Coach Sanders enters into Jackson State in 2020 and leads the Tigers to it first winning season in a decade. The next season Coach Sanders leads the Tigers to a conference championship & a Celebration Bowl appearance. In a power packed SWAC, new member FA&M gets an at large bid in the FCS playoffs.
When i seen Coach Sanders first interview at JSU I knew then he was bout to change the game and if any of the top players tht play at a power five school that isnt playing on the field they are going to jsu or any school that is in the swac and another thing GSU just hired Hue Jackson a former NFL head coach and a damn good offensive mind
Family! I am telling you as a person who attended a predominantly White college, the care, comfort, and concern that you receive from professors and staff at HBCUs is so welcoming.
