NST DAY ONE HEAD TO HEAD: Travis Rice vs. Kevin Backstrom
In what might have been one of the most anticipated battles of the entire event, the hometown hero Travis Rice was staring down the young Swedish prodigy Kevin Backstrom. Kevin put Travis in the backseat after putting down an unreal first run, as Travis couldn’t quite put down a clean run. However, in run two, Rice laced a clean line and forced a tiebreak round. In that third and final round, Travis and Kevin both put down clean, powerful lines but it was Travis Rice who just barely edged out Backstrom, eliminating Kevin and advancing himself on to Finals Day.

I'm a huge Travis Rice fan, but Kevins' runs were a beauty. So underrated.. But what a great event, felt like a video game.

Hello, unfortunately in this round the wrong attitude of the judges was noticed. I'm a fan of Travis Rice, but this time I think Kevin Backstrom was better. To my great regret, I saw how older and more experienced athletes are tolerated and young ones are underestimated, despite the fact that Kevin himself showed incredible skills.

Always loved Rice after seeimg TITA, but Kevin deserved this one. He had by far the most entertaining run of them all, and obviously he put 110% into the last run.

Love T.Rice.... but KB killlt it. Should of won, even T.Rice at the end disagreed with the result. Bring back KB. If its going to be this type of judging, just give the 1st place to TRice just cuz he created the damn thing.

I've Watched this head to head at least once a month since it aired and Kevin wins every time. the style and flo of KB's last run is on a level Trice didn't reach. Yeah Kevin!

IDK, really felt like Kevin rode cleaner. That tiebreaker surprised me. Kevin shoulda taken it in the first two runs let alone the "tie breaker" third round.

Travis had a better last run no doubt at all. I'm actually a bigger KB fan but Travis had it. Cab 5 mute, fs 3 indy, backflip nose grab, switch bs 5 melon vs switch bs 180 no grab, small wildcat, stalefish straight air, bs 360 flapping hands, fs 720 tail.

Agreed! Well said buddy. Spoken like a snowboarder spelling it out for everyone who just saw KB's fluid style and ran with it. Kevin is such a great rider, and certainly he showed up and put it down. Travis had solid second run though and his third run, he pretty much autographed the course. And as they mentioned, Trav really was credited for riding switch, and rightfully so. This course is alot steeper than it looks and snow was not exactly optimal. So coming out and busting a super clean cab 5, and then that switch back 5 melon to stomped landing....is why he won. His lumberjacking.....hardly anything to discredit him for. It really was a coin flip. Well done Kevin....I really wanted him to win. Next year buddy

travis rice has changed. His little winks and pushiness.... Backstrom would have been better for the sport and did a better job no reason he should not have moved on.
