No presets. I record the parts with a Roland D-50 synth, I tried to match the tone of Mike Dean live and think I did pretty well. The guitar is also recorded. I record multiple takes then splice the best takes.

idk, wasn’t bad but i feel like you think u can just throw on a bright synth chord progression and then an electric guitar and it magically makes a mike dean production which it really doesn’t

Well, the melodies/bassline in the original was literally done by Mike Dean and he added a synth chord progression and bass synth. It kinda does make a mike dean production, he has such a unique sound to his songs and puts his own signature on songs that he makes, which is synth and guitar. Take 90210 for example, the moog bass in the first half and the guitar in the second half. Of course Mike Dean didn’t create the synth or guitar noise in hip hop, but Graduation by Kanye West is a good example of Mike Dean’s strengths in his production. Graduation sounds different than the first 2 albums by Kange because of Mike Dean’s synths.
