The engine room is always a fun place to visit. Here is a quick tour of the main components in the ER, I hope you enjoy it. If you would like to dive into any of the systems, please leave a comment below!

So glad I stumbled across your channel. I was a former Boiler Technician in the US Navy and am always interested in mechanical systems and propulsion. Thanks for this video.

Thanks! My dad was a machinist mate and was in the Navy for 30, so I grew up a brat. Go Navy! : )

Very nice video. Thank you. You have a beautiful engine room. I would also be interested in seeing 1)A video of your electrical system, the supply side. 2) A video of your pilothouse. 3) A video of your mast...the electronics and things up there. Thanks again for these videos. I know that can be a lot of work.

Good ideas. I wonder if there is a better way to talk about the electrical system other than a video, or at least I think I'll need some kind do drawing that I can talk over. I'll give that some thought! -mike

As a drawing consider using your electrical panel(s). Of interest (to me) would be your shore cable(s), your isolation transformer (if you have one), your inverter(s), your batteries, your heavy current switches, your generators, and your alternator(s), your solar panels (if you have them), and the gauges that you use to monitor everything. And just your common sense narration. You do that really well. Thanks

I've watched all you videos again. I'm a BIG fan of the N64. I've haven't seen another Gallivant video in awhile?? An interior video would be spectacular? Any 2023 cruising plans? Merry Christmas and a Blessed 2023. Stay healthy, happy and safe. God Bless you both.

Really a fantastic engine room and a great explanation of the various systems. I don't own a yacht (but I'd sure love to), so your explanation really helped me to understand how everything works and made it sound a lot less complex than other tours I've seen. Thanks very much. I hope you will post a lot more videos about your boat, how you operate it, and your adventures.

Nice tour of what is clearly the coolest part of any vessel. I was surprised by how flexible the systems are - looks like you have routing control over fuel, cooling water, oil, hydraulics. Neat. You should probably be wearing a red engineering tunic and speaking in a Scottish accent though.

That looks like MV Migration. :) I see you are a fan of the Winns, there in NZ right now and boatless ATM. Nice tour of a nice engine room. Thanks.

She was! We're really excited to be taking care of her now. We've updated a lot of the systems and I hope to do a video about that someday. Right now we're a bit off of our content creation game -- doing a startup company and video channel at the same time is a bit overwhelming. :)

Great video! What’s the decibel level of the engine room at rest, and under power?

It's pretty quiet in when we're at the dock. The noise in the background on the video is a fan. I generally keep air moving through the room. Under way it is very loud. I'll dig up a db meter and check it out! The ER is lined with sound proofing, the rest of the boat is nice and quiet.

I love the way your present your videos. Haven't seen too many recent ones. Is there an interior tour of your stunning yacht? I'm a bog fan of Northern Marine. I understand there is a new 64 in the build process as we speak. I can't wait to see videos on that like they did on the recent 57. Again, thank you and a wonderful treat.

When are you going to do a full tour of your boat? Love the Northern Marines. I knew several people who worked there during the late 90s and early 2000s. Wonderful boats.

sailboats are our friends!! :) All boats are our friends unless they act like knuckleheads... then they are just boats with boneheads behind the wheel :) great video!! Thanks for sharing! wow that is cool for the get home drive thing. So just one prop?

Secretly both Mia and I are sailors too. We're still pretty new to it but we had a blast racing a Martin yesterday! Yes, there is only one prop. It's pretty big though...

@@MVGallivant Sailing is a blast did it in my younger years on hobie cats, windsurfing and some small sailing dingy's.. been on motorboats all my life in the ICW and Gulf love the motorboats side of things too not so dependent on wind but love sailing that feeling is not something you can duplicate with motoryacht/boating.. i think it gets in your blood lol

@@MVGallivant So basically if your diesel had some gunk in it you could still get home or would that be an issue cause it comes from the same tanks as the main engine? just trying to figure out how it all works. seen wing engines before on Nordhavn's but that does seem pretty cool and might be a better solution in case of diesel issues or just plain old engine issues..
@MVGallivant
@MVGallivant 3 года назад
That's true, if all of the fuel is bad, none of the engines are going to do well. If the fuel in one tank is bad, we can work around that. We could replace the fuel in the day tank with fuel from one of the other tanks (probably the bow tank in this case). I don't know if the Nordhavn wing engines have their own redundant fuel source, if they don't they would have the same problem. The wing engine would have an advantage if the main shaft or prop were not operable. OTOH, while I don't run every part of the get home system that often, most parts are used on a regular basis (genset, hydraulic system, shaft, prop) so it is less likely to suffer a failure due to lack of use. Each system has strengths. Like I said in the video, I like not having another engine to take care of and a little extra space in the engine room. -mike
@ThoughtfulWander
@ThoughtfulWander 3 года назад
@@MVGallivant yeah hydraulic is pretty reliable as long as the system is maintained. yeah not sure on the Nordhavn's either just have seen some of them with the wing engine configuration. they have similar shunting values and cleaning systems for the fuel i think as well. i think there is another boat i saw that had some nice features it was a AllSeas 96 i think was the model?? yeah not having another engine to maintain is pretty nice. so if you had electric you could run the hydraulics so maybe some solar arrays would be a good backup for that type of config or not worth it??
