In this video I show you how to tear down the diff's in the T-Maxx, clean them, and put them back together. You know it's time when the grease in the diff's is thicker, and stickier than glue.

Awesome info, I just got an old T MAxx as a gift and it was every bit as filthy as what you had there, slowly taking it all apart and learning what's what. awesome how people share this info, truly great. Thanks.

Great instructional video. In the process of rebuilding my T-Maxx 2.5 that's been in storage for 6 years. Factory grease in the cups turned into TAR. (Don't store your RC's in 100+ heat in the desert.)

I own Mini e-revo and I love every second. However, I broke electric part a few days ago (I think it is either ESC or Receiver) so I am going to try fix this weekend.. Anyway, I am looking for get 1/10 scale one aside from that and I was thought about either slash or T-Maxx and so I am learning ahead.. Again, I am newbie and your video is one of the best video that I've been seen and even though I don't have one, I can easily understand and apply to other one when I am needed.

I rebuilt my differentials last week. I put CVT Transmission oil in them. They are not sealed differentials, so I just put a little bit enough to keep them moisten, but without any leaks.

As long as there is enough to keep the gears lubed, you should be fine. Thanks for the comment!

Cleaned up my differential and reassembled. Spun it and noticed the metal gears didn't have the correct meshing. I notice on the exploded view of the differential. There's a Teflon Bushing that goes into the cup. Traxxas Part #3981 (Traxxas Teflon Washer 6x9.5x0.5mm). Installed the bushing, now my gears mesh perfectly.

I just bought a Stampede last week and I am getting leakage out the side of the front diff. That and when I took it apart everything appeared to look just fine. Diff oil was way black. I didnt replace it I didnt have any at the time. But upon reassembly the output shafts had a bit of restriction on them. Im just a bit concerned about that. That and any tips on keeping it from leaking?

I've replaced the rear diff on my T Maxx 3.3. The wheels spin while off the ground but when the model in on the floor it doesn't move. I have checked all grub screws on the driveshafts. If I put all left, right, front or back wheels they will spin freely on the ground but not all together. I'm thinking that it has a gearbox problem. What do you think?

I suspect your transmission is messed up.
@cracker182
@cracker182 3 года назад
it seems as though someone before me has put the diffs in backwards because my truck is in reverse, has this happened to anyone before. should i swap them around>?
@5PYZ3R
@5PYZ3R 3 года назад
The diffs wouldn't do that. Make sure your transmission isn't in reverse, a lot of times the servo input is flipped and reverse becomes forward.

I don't have a parts washer so if i used water + washing up liquid, how to I prevent the metal from rusting from the water. I know this may be an obvious question but I'm not sure.
@RcHelpDotCom
@RcHelpDotCom 4 года назад
You can absolutely use just soap and water. Just spray it down with WD-40 when you are done and it shouldn't rust. The "WD" in WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, so it repels water and keeps the metal from rusting. You can also just dry them off really well and put grease on it and install it in the diff housing. But if they are going to sit out for a while, definitely hit them with some WD-40. www.Rc-Help.com

Can I use a 3.3 dif on 2.5
@RcHelpDotCom
@RcHelpDotCom 5 лет назад
I'm going to have to say no on this one since every part number on the diff's are different. The bulkheads are the same, but the diff housing, gears, carrier, driveshafts, all have different part numbers. I'm thinking just more beefy to handle the 3.3. www.Rc-Help.com

My Diff are sealed can I still use grease instead of oil
@RcHelpDotCom
@RcHelpDotCom 5 месяцев назад
If it is a true sealed diff, such as on a Mugen 1:8th scale buggy, then you will need to use the appropriate oil rather than grease. At least I would. On those diffs, you can use oil viscosity to tune how the vehicle turns. Some of the oil is almost like great and very thick. But I would definitely stick with what the manufacturer recommends.
@codycastro8083
@codycastro8083 5 месяцев назад
Thank you so much for the reply back. I have T-Maxx 3.3 and yes the diff are sealed. Now I just need to figure out the recommended oil for the front, middle, rear. I don’t do anything special with it I just drive it around the the front yard an on the road.
@YFZBOB
@YFZBOB 12 лет назад
FYI: Both front and rears did not have this washer installed. T-Maxx Classic owners, check your differentials. The old saying, This may have been assembled on a Friday or Monday. LOL!!

Mine don’t spin like that without the lube. Why
@RcHelpDotCom
@RcHelpDotCom 4 года назад
Something is probably binding, or you have some thick grease in your bearings. This was done (the free spin) on a completely dry setup, no oil or grease. www.Rc-Help.com
@lokomono89

RcHelpDotCom when yours was spinning without the lube. Mine don’t have lube, I’m trying to build one right now, I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t apply wd40 to the bearings tho.
@RcHelpDotCom
@RcHelpDotCom 4 года назад
In all honesty, as long as there is no tight binding, it should be fine. These trucks are large and heavy and a free spinning diff like I had is definitely not required. Mine could have been because it was worn out, or I could have clearanced the case (I honestly can't remember, it's been about 8 years lol) to keep it from pinching the output bearings. Either way, as long as you don't feel anything chunky in there when spinning it, you should be just fine.

Tip: never clean one diff and not the other. One of the diff will take too much pressure and strip the inside gears.
