I've been looking forward for this episode for what feels like an eternity, only to hear that Gavin, Mr. Transformers Animated himself, thinks bruticus is meh.... I'm honestly impressed, the balls on this guy!
I loved the Combiners, they may have been rickety, unposeable, and not even that big really, but they had a vibe that no other version of that gimmick ever really had. I'd argue that the *perfect* G1 combiner is Computron, but these OG ones are pretty damn great!
Blast-off wings are one the wrong sides. Someone most of popped them off and then reattach the left wing to the right side and the right wing to the left side. That's why they're swept back in the wrong diction. Also his laser guns are suppose to be attached to his vehicle mode by the pegs on the underside of the wings and you can store his pistol by slotting its handle into the middle top rocket, with the barrel pointing up!
The day has finally arrived! I remember as a kid figuring out the big lads all had base mode but never figured it was for Metroplex. Bruticus is a great combiner. Proper good Decepticon hard bastard energy.
The Combaticons /Bruticus, were always my fave combiner from the original four Special Teams/Scramble city sets, only topped by my fave triple threat of Piranacon, Predaking and Abominus ( my all time fave g1 toys) Lovely stuff!!!
A momentary diversion on our way to the grave. Gavin, you have a gift for staying positive. Positive for what exactly, I don't know, but you may wish to get that checked out. I had no idea that these guys combined with Metroplex.
You _are_ the only one to collect them all! I have made do with two combiners as follows... - Protectobot torso and one limb, two Aerialbot limbs, one Technobot limb. - Combaticon torso and one limb, two Stunticon limbs, one Terrorcon limb. Funny thing is, whichever torso you use pretty much determines what the combiner looks like so, regardless of limbs, I feel like I have Defensor and Bruticus.
I would of waited an eternity for this, swindle is like top 3 Transformers for me (mainly thanks to animated) the combaticons are my favorite team everr. :))
Loventhe Combaticons. Loved the combined city too. Looks great. Ok, I am go to try to type this in that voice you do when you say we are complaining: "But Gavin! You don't have the G1 Terrocons or Seacons or Technobots. Though they don't go with Metroplex, you can still squint real hard and imagine they fit. Somehow."
Like everyone else in the comments, the Combaticons are my favorite special team. I love the bastards so much I have an Iron Factory Ruination, walmart exclusive urban camo Ruination, and the OG Combaticons themselves. They have this dirt bag energy that I can't get enough of. Even Blastoff being a space shuttle feels like it fits the theme in some inexplicable way.
I'm still collecting pieces to "build" a G1 Bruticus, from cheap stuff to restore. I always wanted Bruticus since my brother gave me his Brawl figure, sans gun and twin blasters. But I'm getting there :)
''only'' have the stunticons, constructions and protectobots, that I all found at good prices, but the 2 I actually always wanted were superion and especially Bruticus, I just love his colors
This is one of my favorite combiners. I have this team…as in one of the many MANY re-colors, the Ruinination one from RiD…which the one I have is the Transformers Universe line from 2003. People thought it was a bootleg from the weird color scheme when I posted it online haha ugly colors aside, I love the set
Oooooh, god, their colors when they're standing all together just work SO WELL!!! For that Swindle, seems like maybe tightening his main screw might help. If not, there's always the 'open him up and dab clear nail polish on everything that moves' method. That got my Sandstorm able to stand up again.
My personal favorite of the G1 combiners, the only one I had components of growing up (Blast Off and Vortex), and the only one I've managed to get a modern version of (CW Bruticus).
I like how Bruticus has his name written on his chest plate so everyone knows it's his, my mum used to write my name on my clothes too back in the '80s, I guess that makes me a bad arse like Bruticus!
I actually never knew they had 'base modes' until long after the original series ended. I _do_ remember Strafe's space-laser-mortar-canon-thing mode though. I got him at a yard sale when I was a kid, and just figured that out naturally. Had tons of fun imagining him shooting asteroids from the surface as a defense battery.
Great review! I've always loved the combaticons, but Bruticus always felt a bit basic. I wonder, would you ever review the Seacons? They're my favourite combiner team
Ooooh, but Gavin, why are Swindle's limbs floppy? And did you know you have Blast-off's wings on backwards? I think Onslaught's transformed incorrectly, and two of the team don't have their guns. Did you know that, Gavin, DID YOU KNOW THAT? And what do you mean Bruticus is the "least interesting combiner"? Any REAL Transformers fan would know he's actually the best *snort*. Love the video by the way.
vortex is one of the earleist transformers i owned. i remember getting him on card, too, which i'm not sure how i managed considering this must've been the early 90's. his handgun storage in vehicle mode was aces, anyway, and i really liked his balljointed shoulders. plus you could flip out the tail rotor for a hand saw! that's a lot of bang for what's ostensibly "just" a limb bot
I would twist Onslaught's arms so his arms are horizontal and his fists are pointing towards the back to give Bruticus a slimmer T-shaped upper torso. I also do the same for Defensor.
i think bruticus is probably my favourite g1 combiner, not just on theming but because they’re so varied in looks and altmodes. the only vintage one i actually own is swindle, found him at a thrift store and he’s really fun. i display him in a case of heirlooms because he’s just that precious
also, i wish the base modes had returned for cw, i always love a base mode. you can kinda squeeze something out of the hotspot/onslaught mold, but it’s a bit of a stretch.
I am personally offended that Brawl and Swindle are missing their handguns and demand an apology at once! More camera time for the pupper is also acceptable.
I honestly hope The Combaticons and Bruticus gets the Legacy Menasor Treatment . It definitely would be Awsome to see them get tge same love they were given in the Fall Of Cybertron Game and seeing him tower over the other Combiners like a boss would be absolute Justice. After replaying Fall Of Cybertron I definitely would love that design to also get the same love and respect G1 Bruticus needs.
I had elements of every combiner group except the Combaticons for some reason. I also never had a single complete combiner and I refused to mix and match. I was a stupid kid. Whew, I feel better getting that off my chest.
While though Devastator from both the 86 movie and Revenge Of The Fallen it Was The Combaticons that got me to love the Idea of combiners both they and Bruticus will always be my favorite combiner team and Combiner out of them all and while tho Combiner Wars was mostly a bust for me since I never managed to get a hold of the other Combiner teams I was absolutely happy to have Completed the Combiner Wars Bruticus and I still have my Fall Of Cybertron Bruticus which I'm still looking for the Damn Upgrade kit for him so I have both Bruticus Combined on my shelf
brawl is, and has always been, the perfect grunt for the decepticons. when I say decepticon grunt, you think of a random tank with a lot of weapon. maybe more purple. if I say "anonymous decepticon grunt" you think reflector, but that's another story altogether blat off is that guy that comes to you with while being uncertain of a choise, he listen to you giving all the pros and the cons, and why he should ABSOLUTELLY NOT DOING the thing, then he comes back later to say 'so, I did the thing anyway and it didn't really worked out', and you still get up from your couch to fix things up, because he's always there to help even when yu didn't want him to
4:52 Personally Bruticus is my favorite of the scramble city combiners, but i can’t go against facts so now I think he’s the worse thing in all of things
Hi Gavin, great video as always. Which tf would you recommend for slicing a banana please and thanks? Also, HATE to be that guy but Blast Off's wings are on backwards. Don't think anyone else spotted it tho.
Vortex robot mode was mistransformed. The legs slide back, making him stand easier, and the rotor base rotates 180 degrees. Vortex lefs should also be slid back for the Bruticus arm.
Who hates brawl? Brawl is amazing. He's the first one I got and I loved him so much it inspired me to get the rest. Bruticus is still the only combiner I ever completed. Blastoff was the of one out for me though. What's military about a space shuttle!?
You have to be REALLY careful with the original G1 Onslaught. The green plastic get brittle with age and the legs transformation joints are often too tight. This result in the green "box" of the legs SHATTER in pieces. Broken onslaughts are not rare on eBay and I had one (paid at high price) asplode in my hands. I gave up on the G1 Combaticons and got Universe Ruination instead. At least on the Ruination editions, that breakage issue is fixed.
Bruticus and the Combaticons are far and away my favorite Scramble City combiner, I hope we get a new version within the next few years. As you said about the g1 one, it's fine but not all that interesting.
Gavin sorry I missed commenting on last video so here is 2 questions to make up for it, what is your thoughts on the velcitron line, and what is your favorite figure in that line
What you don't have Vortex and Blades shoving each other over the single helipad? The last time me and my brothers were all into toys we were fighting over which half completed team got to roost in Metroplex. Not long after my middle brother got interested in football and I lost my youngest bro to TMNT. I think we had only one complete team between the 3 of us.
Well, time to stand out from all the people saying Blast Off's wings are backward by telling you that Bruticus got transformed wrong. The intended look is to rotate Onslaught's arms so that they're pointing backward at a 90-degree angle, which significantly helps his proportions.
The rotors on vortex are just pegged in. the rotors and the turntable they are on can be removed and replaced into the combiner hand port so you can make his hand into a buzz saw
gavin where is may dinobot kingdom review where is it? and who is the biggest transformers animated fan of all time? you or protoman? that is this guy from here ru-vid.com
