Firstly love ya boat. Having ben through French Pass many times best advice would be always wait for slack water, just time out your passage for this then there is no issue passing through here. Having been spun in circles in a 18 ton in the pass is no fun. Durville Island I think is one of the best places in NZ to cruise. Remote and fat cod off the back of the boat where you stop for the night or better days. This area is all about timing for tides and weather so don't be in a rush.
I'm feeling you man, same thing I experienced coming past komodo island ,Indonesia. Had to anchor and wait for tide and wind. In a far inferior vessel I might add. Sobering stuff tidal currents.
The video is topped and tailed with drone footage of the entire boat, Clayton!!! For more of Romanza, scroll through Rapido Trimarans' You Tube channel or visit www.rapidotrimarans.com But we agree: more! More!

The island on the other side of French pass is called DD'Urville Island Island and 1600 devil and his tall ship went through that passage backwards and very lucky to make it it it said that Captain D'Urville freaked out because they were being sucked through at eight not.
I had a similar experience in a 40 yo ferro mono, a 5 knot boat usually, did 11 knots around komodo island,no fighting it,just steer and recover later.
