This 100%! I've been saying for a while now that DC20 solved a problem 5e and pf2 didn't even know was a problem. Off-turn Player Engagement. You are always on pretty much, at a least as a martial for now.
@MagiofAsura I think it shows the innovation of DC20s mechanics to help a social aspect which, when left unchecked, create so many issues in the game. (Especially online play)
But what's cool is if you HAVE to step away and miss a chance for a reaction, it's an extra action point waiting for you when your turn comes around. So no harm, no foul.
Listening to the end about the Spells and how they upgrade... that might be difficult to keep track of at the table. So, suggestion: Create a printable PDF you could put with your books of each of the spells you could do on cards or something (or like fit 4 to a page and it prints well that way). I'm willing all the spellcasters would appreciate that.
Have Psion spells to Alter Mind This could include: Interrupting/Distract where they lose their short term memory "Why did I go this room?" Or to give advantage or disadvantage to recalling long term memories. Mood change where your brain is flooded with oxytocin to feel relaxed and trusting or dopamine to feel positive about what they just did making them more likely to do it again or adrenaline for that fight/flight/or freeze response. It can give advantage for telepathic suggestion. Seizure, which incapacitates someone and makes them fall prone and have to roll to find out how confused they will be after their recovery.
Feeling the community love! Team engagement is amazing. I just finished a One-Shot (turned into a half-shot) over on the Pocket Dimension Discord server, and the Warlord was amazing! He supported the team amazingly, we worked together as a team so well. Love this system!
Having a half caster martial that chooses which spell list they want could be cool. Choosing Spell List: Arcane, Divine, Primal or Psionics. You then infuse magical energies into your attacks and defence.
Great Video! But would like to see the top 3 disliked things from treantmonk aswell. I know you have to promote the game to keep the work going, but honestly you would catch more if you discussed problematic/critical rules, rather than repeating the most loved rules over and over again. Because I already knew all of them and they ARE AWESOME!!! Thats why I'm so interested in the game. Would like to see more video's discussing rules and problems with treantmonk!!! (Like you did with the help action on Initiativechecks in the vid on his channel)
Hey Coach irealy enjoyed this talk with Chris. Is so good to see that other DnD RU-vidr support DC20. I agree with cris that the spell enhancements is fantastic especially that you can enhance Spells to a higher level together. I am excited to see how you will handle this feature at higher levels That two lv 5 PC can use 6 Mana together seems pretty strong without any more knowledge but i sure you find a great solution to balance this kind of spell enhancements.
Recently found your channel and I've been running through the DC20 vids and I have to say I'm LOVING the system! I've been working on my own system and seeing your work has not only inspired me to keep working, but also lets me know I'm on the right track to creating an accessible system that I think others will enjoy. Everything from the 4 action point systems and stamina points for martials to spell duels and spell points (as a player who also hates the idea of how spell slots work in game, while I understand the lore, this part especially makes me VERY happy). I recently started exploring other games outside of 5e (been playing for about 4 or 5 years now) like Lancer, PF2E, etc, this looks like one I'd lot to try out myself! Keep up the amazing work, man! You've got a great thing going!
I assume you've already done this or plan on doing it, but if not: While you've talked about elemental spells, charm/control spells, etc (all common spell types). make sure to run through the whole d&d list to find any one off spells. For example, having a base grease spell to upgrade. Spells like that may be niche, but could easily fit certain character vibes. Or if there's a similar stand-alone spell at later levels that you could downgrade for a base pick and eventually unlock that known effect.
MCDM, DC20, BREAK!!, and Fabula Ultima all play with ways they remove the separate of damage and attack rolls and to me I just can’t go back to the sluggishness of more damage rolls. If PF3E ever happens, I can see them eliminating or streamlining it, or fusing it with a Proficiency die
Great breakdown and I agree to all the points of why DC20 is fun to play. I'd also throw in that letting casters help up cast spells is really fun and is another mechanic that encourages teamwork
I need to try this game asap. I gotta get some friends as excited as I am. I'm not yet convinced on the action economy, because it'l just more math and tracking, but it's also very intuative and narrative.
I'm not a game designer, so take this idea for DC20 with a grain of salt, that said, I like hyper focusing on certain types of spells when I play a spell caster. I especially enjoy lightning magic in particular. My idea/question, is there a possibility for spell casters that want to hyper focus on one thing, to have the option to forgo learning new spells to make their existing spells more powerful when a caster levels up, and just pick new spells when the type of spell you want comes into play on further level ups? (To clarify, the idea I am asking about is the possibility to permanently shorten your spell list to empower other spells) This is just spit balling on my part, and if there are no plans to do something like this I understand. It would probably be a challenge to balance for the game as a whole. Just wanted to throw this idea to the wind and see if there are any plans for it in the future, because if so, I would be Even MORE Hyped for this amazing sounding game system. I'm already trying to get a group to playtest the current DC20 Alpha 0.5 with me, and am looking forward to more development of the DC20 system in general. I highly respect the undertaking Dungeon Coach is doing by making this system and am hoping to try out this awesome sounding game system soon!
One negative with you focusing on DC20 is that I as a viewer no longer get to see your unique perspective on 5e. Always enjoyed how you had out of the box suggestions.
@TreantmonksTemple, I can’t wait for you to dig into DC’s spell lists. You see everything in such an interesting way. You will be able to assist Coach with any spell needs he has. Hopefully, no tweaking will be needed. But the way you view game building is so dynamic. Thank you for all of the help you’ve been able to offer @The Dungeon Coach’s truly unique vision.
Coach: You can release a Grapple as a Free Action. High level BJJ and high level Wrestling practitioners: Huh? 🤣 Coach: They can just let go with their hands. High level BJJ practitioners: Huh? I like this series where a creator comes on and gives their thoughts about the game. You can see Treantmonk's passion for other TTRPGs and systems in general. Really cool! Coach: In D&D they would have to create another Sleep Spell, Major Sleep. That reminds me of the days of Lesser, regular, and Greater in Spells names, being 3 separate Spells. Terrible.
Of all the new prg systems that are starting to pop out, I must say that there are 3 that I'm hyped for, those being DC20, MCDM RPG and the Stormlight RPG. But, tbf the last one is only because I love the setting. When it comes to rules, the other 2 are the ones I'm most excited about.
I like DC20 a lot, but I don’t understand why I shouldn’t go to pathfinder instead of d&d. Could you maybe make more videos going into those differences?
Grapple rules have been confusing in every single RPG I've ever played. If DC20 can be the RPG where grapple is finally clear, it'll stand miles above the rest. Step one: put all your grappling-related rules on the same page. Step two: make it clear what action cost things are. Step three: make it clear what the effects of grappling are at every stage. Step four: have a story-like example to reinforce the process.
Hi coach, love your videos as usual, but today i need to ask for your help. The help isn't actually for me it is for a dndtuber like you who is putting his heart in what he is doing, but is having serious problems with RU-vid and is now considering to leave the scene, the dndtuber in question is "Deficient Master". I don't have the knowledge or connections to help him, so i'm here to ask you to check him out and if possible give him a hand. I totally understand if you can't help him directly, but if you can, then please do, he absolutely deserves it. I hope i'm not asking for too much, thanks in advance coach🙏🏼
I love that I don't have to choose every iteration of illusion spell if I want to play an illusionist character. Or skip one of illusion spells and it always turns out to be the one I need and regret it.
i love you both sooooooooooo much. please get married and stop the obvious sexual tension!!! joking. but not about loving both of you. you guys rock! thank you for everything you do for the community.
