Very cool that the "Tippecanoe and Tyler too" button (Log Cabin) was from 1840 for the Whig Party, while the long-necked eagle button could be a Civil War, Union general staff officer. I wonder if they belonged to Dad and Son or the same man. My guess on the trowel is for applying "chinking" between logs of the cabin.

Looks like a ramrod holder found under the stock of a long rifle between the muzzle end cap and the holder where the ramrod entered the thicker portion of the stock. They were pinned into the underside of the thin portion of the stock by two pins, the thin part of the stock holding the barrel.

Brad, thanks for the inspiration you provide to us all on a weekly basis! I started detecting at the beginning of the pandemic as another “excuse” to get outside and a friend told me about GMMD soon after that. I watched an episode that night and was hooked. I’m a high school and middle school teacher and I now record my own videos to share my adventures with my students, their families, and others. Thanks again! “Every item found has a story to tell. Sometimes it just takes a little digging to figure out what that story is.” Jim Parry - Backroads Metal Detecting

The "masonry tool" could be for scraping hides(I'm a mason), so scraping the fat off from hides makes more sense. . Also the Harrison political button is a big deal; I found a political button of his adversary, Martin Van Buren at a flea market and sold it for $2K (if I remember correctly).

Hey Brad, The Boar "button" may be a British Army unit insignia. There are several units throughout their military history that use the wild boar. I have found a couple similar looking insignias, but have asked a buddy who works in London doing British Heraldry and Military Regimental History. Great find no matter what it is!

Tysm this made my birthday end of the day great. Having and learning more knowledge is beneficial to all of us. Remember listening to old tales as a child and living in the Bush did use some l heard or read in Family Journals, some were great to learn others were hard but worked. Living in there taught never take anything for granted. At 70 today have 2 brothers close to 90.My Grandkids write journals started young after they read mine and my Mother's on Nursing over 50 years. This pandemic is not new but been in a few outbreaks so we learn to be more conservative than before. Peace, love with Harmony for you, family and friends.

I found a "Tippecanoe Club" button this spring in Minnesota, which wasn't even granted statehood until 1858. Someone supported William Henry Harrison in 1840 when they were living out East. They sewed the button onto a coat that they later brought west to the Minnesota Territory. It's one of my all time favorite finds!

On the general service button, usually when the back mark of the button is blank, lot of the time that means the button is made local in the area..

I like the campaign button find, especially in such good shape. I think I mentioned before that I found a few small military buttons by my back gate last spring and then later in the summer I found some larger ones and a few snaps. I have them stashed for now but want to put them in a small display eventually. WWII buttons most likely.

Hey Brad....I spotted the two-inch, crushed cylinder you found in this episode. I can't recall the precise name for them but, musket makers used to fashion 3 or 4 of these out of brass and attach them along the underside of a rifle to hold the rifle's ram rod when not in use (?) Pete from Prescott

I'd say that implement you found pretty early is part of a pressing-iron; it looks just like the ones my Aunt Sue used to have. A couple of hers weren't metal all the way through-- they were a flat, smooth iron plate at the base where it'd touch the fabric, then a thick piece of heavy wood, and then a thin piece of iron with a handle attached to go on the top. They fascinated me as a child, so I remember them pretty vividly-- the wood was very dense, probably oak, very well-worn and handled; my grandmama said that her mother had kept hers by their wood-burning stove and heated them on top. Your General Service button and the dates of the other stuff had me wondering if the war that the old veteran had fought in might have been that of 1812; it'd fit.
